This is so sad. According to WFTV: Police said a teen mistakenly sho t his 12-year-old brother, killing him, inside their Lake Nona home Friday afternoon. The shooting happened on Portafino Drive in the Nona Crest Subdivision in Orange County. According to investigators, the shooting was accidental. Authorities said the two brothers were home alone, when the older boy feared an intruder was inside the house and grabbed a gun. “He heard some noises and he called out for his brother and he didn’t answer and so then his brother startled him,” said Orlando Police Department Detective Mike Moreschi. Detectives said the 16-year-old shot and struck his brother, then realized the tragic mistake and called 911. A police spokesman said the 12-year-old was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital where he died. “He’s devastated, obviously. His parents are devastated by what happened and it’s just a really bad situation for the family,” Moreschi said. Police said the 16-year-old won’t be charged in the shooting, but the State Attorney’s office will review the case to look for possible negligence. The gun was legally owned. It’s unclear where the gun was located inside the home or if it was locked up. Crime scene investigators were on scene Friday night to process the house. Neighbors said the family has lived in the neighborhood for less than a year. “My heart goes out to the family and I will keep them in my prayers,” said Ikwueme. This is why parents who keep guns in their homes need to take the proper precautions to prevent accidents like this from happening. WFTV
A Marine killed a male and female colleague in a shooting at Quantico, a military base in northern Virginia, before killing himself, according to reports. The tragedy began with a shooting around 11 p.m. Thursday that left one dead at Marine Base Quantico, base spokesman Lt. Agustin Solivan said. That shooting led to a standoff between authorities and the suspect, who was barricaded in barracks at the base. Authorities entered early Friday. They found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound along with a second victim. Solivan did not say what prompted authorities to enter the barracks. No names were immediately released but Solivan said the suspect and both victims were Marines. Authorities believe the suspect was a staff member at the officer candidate school. Solivan said the shooting was isolated and there were no other casualties. The base was on lockdown after the shooting but the lockdown was lifted early Friday. During the lockdown, residents were warned over a loudspeaker to stay inside. About 37 miles south of D.C., Quantico also home to the FBI’s training academy. In 2010, it was one of several targets of an ex-Marine reservist who, during five nighttime shootings, fired on military targets including the Pentagon.
Yoko Ono has gotten herself involved in the debate on gun control . And the widow of John Lennon is using the memory of her late husband to help get her point across. In a series of Tweets, Ono sent messages to her 3.7 million followers that included the image of Lennon’s bloody glasses, which were removed after his shooting in 1980 and first published on the cover of the 1981 album “Season of Glass.” “Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980,” Ono wrote. “31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone.” Ono concluded her Tweets by writing “the death of a loved one is a hollowing experience.” She also directed a few posts to Piers Morgan and Michael Moore, among others. Where do you stand? Should there be major control legislation? YES. Fewer guns, fewer tragedies! NO. It’s unconstitutional and won’t stop anything! View Poll »
Sounds like someone was trying to blow the joint up …. Via CBS News: Hundreds of students have been evacuated from a dorm on the University of Central Florida campus in Orlando after explosives devices were found while authorities were investigating a death. Police were called to Tower 1 early Monday after a fire alarm went off. Arriving officers found a man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police told local TV stations they found an assault weapon and improvised explosive devices on the scene. It was not immediately known whether the dead man is a student. About 500 students were evacuated from the dorm to the student union, and a parking garage was closed. The university has cancelled classes through noon Monday as a precaution. “It’s unnerving, for sure,” one young woman told CBS Affiliate WKMG. “Definitely not used to it, especially living on campus. You hear about that a lot living off campus, but it’s especially rare living on campus.” We hope no one else was hurt and they’re able to get this under control to avoid future incidents.
See what locking up Chief Keef can do for a city? Chicago Murders Down 26% From Last Year Via NBCChicago After Chicago’s murder rate made national headlines last year, the city’s police superintendent announced murders are down 26 percent. That’s compared to where the city was this time last year when murders shot up in the first quarter. Shooting incidents are down 19 percent year over year, Supt. Garry McCarthy said. He said the majority of that can be traced back to guns and violence, which police are trying new tactics to combat. In the past month, narcotics officers on the West Side have done a number of undercover drug buys with a focus on “that H” and crack. One buy ended with 15 gang members in custody and the other led to the arrest of a dozen. The store where the second investigation led to a bust has since been shut down, and McCarthy said that should serve as a warning to other Chicago businesses. “It’s real simple,” McCarthy said. “If you’re engaged in it, you’re going to lose your business. If you’re engaged in facilitating or tolerating these behaviors, you’re going to lose your licenses and we’re going to go after your business.” In the first 10 weeks of 2013, McCarthy said Chicago police took 3,100 guns off the streets. Congratualations to Supt McCarthy and the Chi-town police department. Now we know you all can be as crooked as the day is long, so we hope that these numbers are a true reflection of a decrease in crime and not some math trick that makes it appear that you are actually doing a good job. Good to see someone in Hollyweird still has morals, but DAMN they look just alike! LL Cool J Says Its Disrespectful To Talk About Playing Christopher Dorner In Film According to TMZ reports : LL Cool J must know he bears a striking resemblance to accused killer Christopher Dorner, but he wants NO PART of a movie about Dorner … at least not yet. Outside Katsuya in Hollywood last night, we asked the Grammy host/rapper/”NCIS: Los Angeles” star about possibly doing a biopic, but he quickly nixed the idea. LL told us, “That’s not something to even talk about because there are families that suffered, people that died. And because of that, I think it would be disrespectful to them to … have this conversation about a film when people’s lives were on the line.” Whether you’re a lady or not, you gotta love James Todd Smith. R.I.P. to those that lost their lives at the hands of Christopher Dorner. Peep LL’s full explanation in the video below. Image via AP/WENN
