REVIEW: Shrek Forever After a Witty, Fitting Franchise Finale

That the Shrek films have always had one eye firmly on the chaperones — regularly casting clever asides, storybook mash-ups, and classic rock riffs into their corner — is one of their canniest innovations. While appealing to parents is standard procedure today, at the time of the original’s release, in 2001, it still seemed like a clutch move, elevating the film above the steady flow of Disney treacle it took pleasure in subverting and taking up Pixar’s gauntlet. Almost a decade after its inception, having slightly adjusted the bar for family entertainment, the franchise finds an apt farewell in Shrek Forever After. More redux than sequel, the final Shrek is more parent- (and specifically dad-) oriented than ever; it may also produce the first twinge of nostalgia in the kids who thrilled to the original at a formative age.

Cameron Diaz’s Legs Hit The Red Carpet

Here’s Cameron Diaz doing her thing on the red carpet at the premiere of what will hopefully be the last Shrek movie Shrek Forever After . Her body looks awesome, she could crack coconuts with those legs, but her face is definitely starting to show her ages. Not that I’m advocating any sort of plastic surgery, at least not on the face, that just makes the older birds look weird. But maybe some really big sunglasses would be appropriate, you don’t want to scare the children. Oh and some bigger boobs. Enjoy. more pictures of Cameron Diaz here

‘Iron Man 2’ Soars Past ‘Robin Hood’ At The Box Office

Superhero sequel holds first place despite competition from Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe. By Josh Wigler Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 2” Photo: Paramount Pictures The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Iron Man 2” ($53 million) #2 “Robin Hood” ($37.1 million) #3 “Letters to Juliet” ($13.8 million) #4 “Just Wright” ($8.5 million) #5 “How to Train Your Dragon” ($5.1 million) “Iron Man 2” held on to the top of the box-office charts for the second weekend in a row despite elevated competition from a slew of new releases, including Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood.” Although the Marvel Studios superhero sequel earned a victorious $53 million from Friday through Sunday, it still suffered a steep 59 percent plunge from its $128.1 million opening weekend. Even with such a sharp decline, “Iron Man 2” already ranks as the second-highest-grossing release of 2010, behind Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Additionally, the movie has grossed an impressive $428.2 million worldwide total after only three weeks in theaters. Director Ridley Scott and actor Russell Crowe returned to their “Gladiator” roots with “Robin Hood” this weekend. The medieval epic came in second place with $37.1 million at the domestic box office and an additional $74 million from foreign showings, resulting in a $111.1 million global total. But with a hefty $200 million production budget and surefire hits such as “Sex and the City 2” and “Shrek Forever After” arriving over the next few weeks, “Robin Hood” faces a challenging road in its quest to cross the profit line. The weekend’s other major new releases, “Letters to Juliet” and “Just Wright,” landed in third and fourth place with $13.8 million and $8.5 million respectively. “Letters” failed to match the success of leading lady Amanda Seyfried’s previous romantic hit, “Dear John.” Fifth place belonged to the continually successful “How to Train Your Dragon” with $5.1 million. Horror remake “A Nightmare on Elm Street” fell to sixth place with $4.7 million. Upcoming Releases Moviegoers can return to the kingdom of Far Far Away next weekend as “Shrek Forever After” enters the box-office arena. The DreamWorks family film goes up against Universal’s “MacGruber,” based on the Will Forte-starring “Saturday Night Live” sketch. Charlie Kaufman Rewrote Kung Fu Panda 2

What’s Charlie Kaufman been up to since writing and directing Synechdoche, New York ? Oh, just putting a polish on some of the biggest animated franchises in town. THR brings word that the venerated screenwriter spent two weeks punching up Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom , while a Slashfilm commenter in the know says Kaufman pulled the same duty on Shrek Forever After . Should either of the movies existentially fold in on themselves, I guess we’ll know for sure. [ THR via Slashfilm ]

Cameron Diaz Looks Good For Her Age

Here’s Cameron Diaz looking dead sexy at the premiere of Shrek Forever After the other night. I didn’t even know they were making another Shrek movie, I’m out of the loop when it comes to annoying children movie franchises. Anyhow, Cameron looks good, getting a little old looking, but still looks good. I’d still stick it in… Just the tip

Controversial Shrek Fashion Shoot Replaces Dated Pop Culture References with Naked Models

So this happened! Perhaps you’ve heard of the magazine VMan , an arty, marketed-to-men version of the fashion bible V ? As far as avant-garde American periodicals go, it’s a good one — or at least it used to be, when it would give up dozens of pages to James Franco and his collaborator Carter to use as an art project. Lately, VMan has been trending in a weird direction (a signed Nick Jonas cover, really?) and it’s all come to a head with this bizarre Shrek Forever After photoshoot.
