How did Brittany Murphy’s husband suddenly die just months after the actress herself succumbed to cardiac arrest at her Los Angeles home at age 32? Law enforcement sources say there are signs that an accidental overdose of prescription drugs may have left Simon Monjack dead at home last night. There is no official word yet, but a well-placed source says, “There were a number of pill bottles on the nightstand in the bedroom; some were empty.” This is clearly and eerily similar to the death of Monjack’s wife, Brittany Murphy , in December, after which an array of prescription drugs were found. On the nightstand of the same bedroom where Monjack died, no less. Many of the drugs on Simon Monjack’s nightstand were the same as the ones found after Brittany died, too. One law enforcement source says that the two causes of death that seem most plausible right now are both “natural” and “accidental drug overdose.” Monjack suffered a heart attack during a November incident when he had a medical emergency aboard an airplane and paramedics met him at LAX. Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy, discovered Monjack’s body. Sharon was also the one who found her daughter, Brittany, unconscious in December. Those close to Monjack never recovered from the death of his wife. Sources say he was often unshaven and had gained considerable weight since. He repeatedly and very publicly decried reports that hinted his widow died of a drug overdose and described living every day without her as painful. The 39-year-old made a fortune trading currency but his wealth brought him little comfort. A source who knew Simon Monjack well told Radar Online: “In past months he didn’t feel well. He never told me exactly why but he was having physical problems as well as being emotionally devastated.

Simon Monjack, the controversial widower of Brittany Murphy, was found dead early this morning in his Los Angeles home. He was 40. American actress and singer Brittany Murphy died at age 32 last December 2009 due to pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication but just five months after her husband Simon Monjack, English writer-director-producer, was found dead last Sunday night in their home in Hollywood. Sharon Murphy called 911 when she discovered Monjack around 9:30 being unresponsive. Monjack was then pronounced dead. According to Sgt. Louie Lozano, Monjack died of natural causes. “We concluded there no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved,” said Sgt. Alex Ortiz, another police spokesman. Linda Monjack, mother of Simon, told PEOPLE that her son was “unwell, and the doctors are carrying out tests. On whether he has a heart problem it is not really for me to say, you must ask him, but yes, there have been health problems in the past. The Los Angeles Times reports that British screenwriter Monjack, 39, was found dead of yet-unknown causes at the home he shared with Murphy, who died in December at age 32 from what a coroner determined was a combination of pneumonia, anemia and multiple drug intoxication. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 9:24 p.m. on Sunday for an “unspecified medical aid request,” according to a fire department spokesman. After Fire Department personnel attempted to provide medical assistance to Monjack, he was pronounced dead at the scene. TMZ reported that Murphy’s mother, Sharon, who also discovered her daughter’s body, was the person who found Monjack unconscious in the master bedroom and it was she who called 911 to report the medical emergency. The site claimed that Monjack reportedly died as a result of cardiac arrest, though that has not been confirmed. A death investigation is under way. Following Murphy’s death, Monjack said in an interview that he suffered from seizures and had suffered a heart attack while returning from a vacation in Puerto Rico in 2009. Monjack was born in Hillingdon, England, on August 5, 1970, and is best known for writing and directing the little-seen 2000 movie “Two Days, Nine Lives.” In February, a coroner’s report dispelled rumors that Murphy had died as a result of illegal drug abuse or excessive alcohol intake. Simon Monjack has died. The late Brittany Murphy’s husband was found unconscious last night and pronounced dead soon after her mother called 911. Law enforcement sources say Brittany’s mom, Sharon, discovered him around 9:30, unresponsive. Simon Monjack was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived. He was just 39 years old. No cause of death is known, however, local broadcasts cited law enforcement sources saying it appeared to be a heart attack. Detectives are investigating. Strangely enough, two weeks before Brittany Murphy died, paramedics met the couple’s return flight from Puerto Rico at LAX and took Simon Monjack straight to the hospital because he was experiencing trouble breathing on board. Monjack has actively defended Murphy in the months since she died, and even set up a sham charity in her name (he later returned all donations).
