By Rob Markman Big Sean Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage On his 2011 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for his single “My Last,” Big Sean told MTV News, “If I win Best New Artist, I’m gonna go crazy, because I really worked hard as hell.” The funny thing is that as big as the Chris Brown -assisted single was for him, Kanye West’s understudy originally bucked at the idea of recording the poppy single. “When No ID gave me that beat for the song ‘My Last,’ I did not want to do it at all ,” the Finally Famous MC revealed. Luckily for Sean, he was convinced otherwise. The song shot up the charts and peaked at #1 on the Billboard rap chart and #4 on the R&B/hip-hop chart. First single, ‘Mr. Know It All,’ hits radio at the end of the month. By Gil Kaufman Kelly Clarkson Photo: Mike Moore/ Getty Images After multiple leaks, delays, seeming frustration and endless anticipation, Kelly Clarkson’s fifth album finally has a release date. Stronger is slated to drop October 25, preceded by the single “Mr. Know It All.” Clarkson will host a live webcast with fans August 30 on her website , during which she will debut the song. The single will then hit radio directly after the webcast and be available for sale at all major digital-music stores September 5, according to an announcement from Clarkson’s label. Fans who just can’t wait can pre-order the album from Clarkson’s site and then automatically get the single as soon as it’s available. Clarkson posted a note to her fans Tuesday explaining the decision to combine her two websites into one and expressing excitement about finally unleashing the songs. “Can’t wait for y’all to hear the new single!” she wrote. “The band and I are really excited and currently gearing up for this record! It’s gonna be a fun record to tour!” The original “American Idol” winner has been patiently anticipating a release date for the disc, telling fans last month that the long wait would soon be over. “Just found out my single is hitting radio in August!” she tweeted . “Woohoo! It sounds great as well! Can’t wait for y’all to hear it!” But just an hour later, Clarkson apologized for getting a bit too excited. “Okay please do not get angry but it might be September for my single,” she wrote. “My calendar was messed up! I’m so sorry! BUT it might be late August! It’s a huge bummer waiting but I promise it’ll be worth it! Stupid technology!!” The album, originally teased as a late 2010 release, was pushed back to early 2011, with Clarkson filling the gap in February by talking up her influences, such as Prince, Tina Turner, Radiohead, Sheryl Crow and Aretha Franklin, and hitting the studio with producer Rodney Jerkins. In early February, she announced, with a bit of consternation, that the then-untitled album was finished but had been pushed back until September. Then, last month, three songs that are reportedly slated for the album leaked, just a week after another new tune, the rocking “Let Me Down,” surfaced online. The new songs, which were quickly scrubbed from the Internet, also included the ballad “Forgive You” and the pop-rocker “Dumb + Dumb = You.” What are you expecting from Kelly’s new music? Release dates for singles have come and gone, her frustration about the long release process has flared at times and a slow trickle of never-before-heard songs has leaked online over the past month. But Clarkson gave fans reason to hope on Thursday when she posted a series of tweets that made it sound as if her eagerly anticipated fifth album is getting closer to seeing the light of day. Still, as has frequently been the case with Clarkson lately, it was a mix of good and bad news. “Also, just found out my single is hitting radio in August!” she tweeted Thursday afternoon. “Woohoo! It’s sounds great as well! Can’t wait for y’all to hear it!” Fans were understandably excited about the imminent release of the unnamed tune but an hour later, Clarkson said she may have misspoken a bit. “Okay please do not get angry but it might be September for my single,” she wrote . “My calendar was messed up! Newlywed R&B star Monica has found herself in the middle of a family feud. The ATL singer recently collaborated with Rick Ross, Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim for the single, “Anything.” The song samples David Porter’s “I’m Afraid the Masquerade Is Over” used for the Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Who Shot Ya?” and the Queen Bee cribs a few lines from the Biggie hit in her verse. (Listen below) According to Monica’s twitter account Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace has stopped the single from being released because Lil’ Kim appears on the song. As custodian of Biggie’s estate, Ms. Wallace approves any samples of her late son’s music. “I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed. She’s our friend, a legend,” Monica wrote. “Lil Kim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked and I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.” Ms. Wallace and Lil’ Kim have been engaged in a very public feud over the past few years, most recently over Kim’s portrayal in the biopic Notorious . Based on Monica’s tweets, the song would not be cleared unless Lil’ Kim’s vocals were removed. Despite her displeasure, Monica maintained her respect for Ms. Wallace and did not take sides, insisting that she “respects all parties involved” and hopes to have the song reinstated with Lil’ Kim featured. Lil’ Kim has taken the high road thus far simply writing, “I want ya’ll to know that Missy Elliot and Monica Brown have been going hard a s mothaf*cka for this situation. I love them so much!
