Making It Rain On Them Hoes: Johnson & Johnson To Pay Boston Family $109 Million After 6 Year-Old Goes Blind And Loses 90% Of Her Skin Taking Cold Medicine

Talk about a silver lining… Johnson & Johnson To Pay Family $109 Million In Allergic Reaction Lawsuit Via NYPost Health care company Johnson & Johnson has been told to pay a teenager and her parents $63 million after she suffered a life-threatening drug reaction and lost most of her skin when she took a children’s pain reliever nearly a decade ago. Johnson & Johnson and its McNeil-PPC Inc. subsidiary should pay Samantha Reckis and her parents a total of $109 million, including interest, a Plymouth Superior Court jury decided on Wednesday. Samantha was 7 when she was given Motrin brand ibuprofen, family attorney Brad Henry said. She suffered a rare side effect known as toxic epidermal necrolysis and lost 90 percent of her skin and was blinded, he said. She suffered brain damage that “thankfully” involved only short-term memory loss, he said, and surgeons had to drill through her skull to relieve some pressure. The disease also seared Samantha’s respiratory system, and she now has just 20 percent lung capacity, Henry said. Cotdamn… The family filed the lawsuit in January 2007, claiming that Samantha was blinded by Motrin and alleging that Johnson & Johnson failed to warn consumers that the drug could cause life-threatening reactions. The five-week trial ended on Wednesday when the jury awarded $50 million in compensatory damages to Samantha and $6.5 million to each of her parents. Samantha, now 16 years old, had previously taken Motrin without suffering any side effects. Her parents began giving her the medication to reduce fever that began the day after Thanksgiving in 2003. The resulting toxic epidermal necrolysis — a potentially fatal skin disease that inflames the mucus membranes and eyes and is marked by a rash that burns off the outer layer of skin — puzzled physicians. It inflamed Samantha’s throat, mouth, eyes, esophagus, intestinal tract, respiratory system and reproductive system, forcing physicians to put her in a coma. Now what do you think Johnson & Johnson had to say about this? “The Reckis family has suffered a tragedy, and we sympathize deeply with them,” it said in a statement. But the firm sought to defend Children’s Motrin, saying it is “labeled appropriately” and when used as directed is “a safe and effective treatment option for minor aches and pains and fever.” “A number of medicines, including ibuprofen, have been associated with allergic reactions and as noted on the label, consumers should stop using medications and immediately contact a healthcare professional if they have an allergic reaction,” it said in the statement. These ninja can’t hold Samantha back though. Samantha, who lives in Plymouth, is an honor student but has to work twice as hard as other students to retain the same amount of information, Henry said. She doesn’t want to let her plight hold her down, he said. She’s an honor student AND she’s ballin’ outta control. Sky’s the limit. Image via Reckis Family

Hi my name is Andréanne and on Friday November 23rd 2012 I got…

Hi my name is Andréanne and on Friday November 23 rd  2012 I got to meet my idol, Justin Drew Bieber. This is how it happened: On Thursday November 22nd my cousin (@ montrealbieber ) won 6 meet and greets from  BieberFever. Yes, she entered three times and it isn’t fair but she ended up giving them away so it is fair in a way. She called my house and asked me if I wanted to come with her to meet Justin. At this point I couldn’t even breathe, I was crying so much! I asked my mom and she said it was all up to my dad so she called him and when she hung up, she stared at me and smiled. Seriously I can’t even explain how much I was crying . I was on the phone with my best friend  @rauhlsack and we were crying together. She also came to meet him with me. The next morning I took the train to Ottawa to meet Justin. When we got to the venue we started getting nervous because we were scared that we wouldn’t be able to get the meet & greet wristbands if we didn’t have tickets for the concert. But we ended up getting them anyways. THANK GOD. We were lining up to meet him and I seriously couldn’t feel my legs. I couldn’t believe I was finally meeting him. It was sinking in that I was meeting my idol. Finally it was our turn and I was the first one that walked in. I walked in AND THERE HE WAS. JUSTIN DREW BIEBER. He was so perfect I couldn’t believe it. I seriously felt like I was in a dream. I went beside him and realized that I was in my cousin’s spot (we planned out where we were going to be standing for the picture lol) so I walked in front of him and said sorry. Then I went beside him on the other side and he put his hand on my waist! I was wearing a crop top so his hand was touching my skin! I also passed out okay, I’m not even lying.  Then they took the picture and I tried to hug him but the bodyguard pushed me so I couldn’t, but he tried to hug me, like he’s so perfect.  Then we went outside and my cousin had made a sign that said “We need 4 tickets to see our Buzz Lightyear.” We stood outside for about an hour and then my cousin and her mom decided they’d go see if there was still tickets at the box office. They came back with 5 tickets in section 311, which aren’t really good but I didn’t care! Since the tickets were kind of bad we decided we’d stay outside with our sign incase someone would give us better tickets. We ended up getting 7 extra tickets from random people that couldn’t go to the show or had an extra one. In total we had 12 TICKETS. Out of them all, two of the tickets we got were in section 119 so my cousin and her friend took those. I didn’t really mind because I was going to see him on December 1st with floor seats. We ended up giving all the extra tickets to girls that didn’t have tickets at all either. They were so happy it was the cutest thing , like it was seriously the best feeling in the world to see how happy they were that they were going to see Justin too! We also ended up being in the newspaper, it was so cool. The concert was amazing and it was the best day of my life. I still can’t believe it actually happened. If you haven’t met him yet don’t give up! You will end up meeting him one day. I never thought I would meet him and I did SO NEVER GIVE UP! -@torontobeliebbs Read the original post: Hi my name is Andréanne and on Friday November 23rd 2012 I got…

Lena Dunham is Not Stressed About Stripping Down [PICS]

Here at Skin Central every day is a party where we celebrate famous women getting naked, so we have to hand it to Lena Dunham who so frequently directs herself to get nude. Now her contentious creation Girls , is about to debut its second season, and Lena dropped by the Today Show to assure everyone that going au naturel is only natural: “It’s not that brave to get naked if you’re not stressed about being naked” This in the wake of the New York Post calling Dunham a “pathological exhibitionist” likes that’s a bad thing. We’d never encourage any actress to cover up, and any gal who wants to show off her ingenue num-nums is ok by us. So congratulations, Lena, and keep pushing that nude envelope!

New and Nudeworthy on Netflix 1.9.13 [PICS]

Get ready to shuffle your queue, because we’re on Netflix purely for the skin! First up, Christina Ricci has some nippy scenes in the dark comedy Pumpkin (2002), but it’s her sorority sister Erinn Bartlett who really delivers the gourds. Then the Tim Roth directed shocker The War Zone (1999) is not for the feint of heart or weak of pants since it features full frontal from Lara Belmont and the real post-pregnancy peepers of Tilda Swinton . And last but not least, there’s Sophie Rois in a devil’s threesome for 3 (2011), Katie Boland ’s boobage in Daydream Nation (2010), and Bridget Fonda ’s butt in Jackie Brown (1997). See pics after the jump!

Guess Which Waffle Toned Rapper Tattooed His Late Grandmother And Uncle On His Back?

Can you guess?? Drake Gets Late Grandmother And Uncle Tattooed Via Miss Info reports: Drake ’s latest body ink is like the emotional opposite of that. Wayne paid tribute to a random skateboard company. Drake pays tribute to two deceased family members, his uncle and his grandmother. Drake visited tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado in Hesperia, CA for the large back pieces on Dec. 27th. Drake is all about demonstrative sentimentality. From his Aaliyah tattoo to this new tribute to his late uncle and grandmother…if Drake loves you, you will end up permanently pictured on his skin. That’s basically the rule. But the most interesting thing about this new tattoo is what we don’t see. Look at the photo of the back tattoo (after the jump)…The center of it is Drake’s Uncle hugging his Grandmother. And the piece incorporates the previous Aaliyah face that he already had on his back. But who is the mystery woman tattooed on the other side?…. Instagram/MissInfo

Samuel L. Jackson Says His Character In “D’Jango” Is “The Most Hated Negro In Cinematic History”

He ain’t never told no lie, he ain’t never told no lie Samuel L. Jackson Says His D’Jango Unchained Character Is Most Hated Negro In Cinema Via Essence Samuel L. Jackson has made a career of playing sinister characters. But none is quite as unlikeable, or controversial, as his character Stephen in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. As the Candyland plantation’s oldest and more revered slave, Stephen, as Jackson puts it, “is the power behind the throne,” who throws a wrench in Django’s plans to rescue his wife—while providing a bevy of hearty laughs at the expense of Django and company. Peep what “Uncle Sam” had to say about his character. ESSENCE.com : What was it like to play an evil, but extremely funny, character? SAMUEL L. JACKSON : It’s great to have a character that has that kind of agenda. [Stephen] throws those great lines and [has those] relationships with people and has tons of conflicts. It’s great to be that. ESSENCE.com : Did you have any hesitation about taking on the role? JACKSON : No, Quentin called me and said he had this movie he wanted me to be in. I read the script and thought this was great. I could be as evil as I want to be and be the most hated Negro in cinematic history. I was there! ESSENCE.com : Was there any part of you that slightly resented Stephen because he ruined things for Django? JACKSON : No, I like all my characters. You can’t play a villain and think of yourself as a villain. It’s not the thing to do. You have to go about the business of doing what he does and being who he is. I like Stephen. I like the fact that Stephen knows who he is and he’s comfortable in the skin he’s in. ESSENCE.com : How do you go about preparing to play a house slave, if there is a way? JACKSON : How do you prepare? Well, you know he is. You know where he came from. You know he’s a product of his environment and he’s been there forever. He runs the plantation, he can read and write. He writes the checks. He does more than everybody knows he does. He’s essentially the power behind the thrown in the plantation. He’s got a lot of power. He’s the freest slave on the plantation. He’s not burden by any of things that all the other slaves are. He doesn’t have to go out in the fields and work. He tells people what to do. He has a position of authority. He’s authority. He’s a business man. [Laughs] Bossip was fortunate enough to be invited to the Atlanta screening of D’Jango Unchained last week and despite the repetitive use of the N-word, we were very impressed by the film. Again, Sam Jackson isn’t lying when he says you are going to HATE his character! Image via D’Jango

Rhonda Lee Fired For Defending Hair on Facebook, Meteorologist’s Fans Lash Out

Louisiana meteorologist Rhonda Lee defended her short hair after being insulted on Facebook, only to be fired … and receive a groundswell of support online. A viewer took Lee, of Shreveport’s KTBS, to task October 1 for having short hair, rather than for any job-related issues. Lee, 37, responded in the comments. Instead of backing her up or deleting the offensive post, however, the network fired Lee , saying she had violated the company’s unofficial social media policy. Now, her fans are furious. Nearly 1,000 people have signed a petition asking that KTBS rehire Lee, saying she was victimized twice, once by the viewer “and again by KTBS.” “Rhonda Lee deserves to have her job back,” the petition reads. “Her eloquent response to the bigoted and sexist remarks of viewer Emmitt Vascocu were warranted.” “Employers such as KTBS-TV should stand by their employees and on-air talent whenever they are verbally attacked based on their looks, values or merit.” “I would never have dreamed in a million years that I would get all this support,” Lee told the Daily News. “It’s been a tough go at first to not be angry. But mostly I’m just sad. I genuinely loved where I worked. I loved my viewers. I made my home here.” For its part, KTBS says Lee “was not dismissed for her appearance or defending her appearance” but rather for the repeated violation of the company policy. “Unfortunately, television personalities have long been subject to harsh criticism and negative viewer comments about their appearance and performance,” the ABC affiliate said. “If harsh viewer comments are posted, there is a specific procedure to follow.” Rhonda Lee, however, says she never saw the policy in question, and that when she asked for it following her termination, higher-ups told her no. KTBS, on the other hand, says Lee received an email outlining the procedure, which states that it is “best not to respond at all” to viewer complaints. What did Lee write, and in response to what, exactly? “The black lady that does the news is a very nice lady. the onlt [sic] thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair,” wrote Emmitt Vascocu on October 1. “im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but its not something that i think looks good on tv.” Days later, when KTBS still hadn’t respond to the Facebook post on its page, Lee did. “Hello Emmitt I am the “black lady” to which you are referring. My name is Rhonda Lee. Nice to meet you,” she wrote on October 6, in the comments. “I am sorry you don’t like my ethnic hair. And no I don’t have cancer.” “I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn’t grow downward. It grows upward.” “Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don’t find it necessary.” “I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. As women we come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty.” “Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society,” the TV personality concluded. “Little girls (and boys for that matter) growing up in this world need to see that what you look like isn’t a reason to not achieve their goals.”
