Source: S3studio / Getty Man Gets Arrested For Throwing Coffee In Employee’s Face A man could potentially serve a 16-year prison sentence for throwing hot coffee on a McDonald’s employee, simply because she asked to see his receipt. 54-year-old Joseph Deluca of Cleveland, Ohio was arrested on March 5th for injuring the restaurant worker in back in February. According to reports from Fox 8 , Deluca pulled up to the restaurant’s drive-thru window at 12:30 p.m. and ordered one cup of coffee. The employee accidentally handed him two cups and when she re-checked his order, she asked to see Deluca’s receipt. The customer reportedly laughed and said he ordered both cups, but after the employee asked for his receipt again, Deluca threw the tray of hot coffee in her face before driving off. The store’s security cameras caught the excruciating injury that ended up hospitalizing the employee at MetroHealth Medical Center for both neck and shoulder pain. When Deluca was pulled over by Newburgh Heights police officers, he even ended up confessing to the wrong crime. “I know, I beat somebody up,” Deluca sheepishly told officers, his confession recorded on body cameras. “I beat somebody up, family member or something…he put his hands on my girlfriend and I punched him, and it turned out to be felonious I guess.” Erin Stone of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Office said, “What is troubling with a case like this is you have someone who is going to work just to do her job. She asks to see his receipt and this angers him immensely and he throws two cups of hot coffee in her face.” According to Yahoo Lifestyle, the prosecutor’s office says that the victim had first-degree burns on her face, neck, and shoulder. Deluca was indicted on two counts of second-degree felonious assault, each of which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

Maryland Legal Aid attorney Rashad James says he was detained by a courtroom cop who thought he was a suspect wanted on an outstanding warrant. https://t.co/Oi6aPkWLQT — New York Daily News (@NYDailyNews) March 28, 2019 James told the Baltimore Sun that during his court appearance in Harford County District Court on March 6, deputies mistook him for his client, who is also Black and did not attend the hearing. He continued: “This is actually the first time this has occurred to me, and I do not know of any colleagues who have had a similar experience. In the moment, it was sort of surreal in the sense that I guess it was just one of those unexpected things that I just did not anticipate.” Rashad says he was the only Black attorney in the room, and police began asking him race based questions immediately. After checking the validity of his license multiple times, deputies finally let James go, 10 minutes later. Maryland Legal Aid says they’re “troubled by the deeply disturbing incident. There is no plausible explanation other than racial bias.” James has filed a complaint with Harford County Sheriff’s office, and says he plans to carry business cards with him wherever he goes. SMH.

Source: Ramin Talaie / Getty Tyson Is Recalling Almost 70,000 Pounds Of Their Chicken The United States Department of Argiculture announced on Thursday that Tyson Foods, Inc. recalled 69,093 pounds of their frozen chicken strip. According to the company, Tyson fears that the food was contaminated with metal. For everyone out there with some chicken in their freezer wondering which product specifically, it’s the buffalo and crispy style ready-to-eat variety, which were produced on November 30, 2018. That means that all of the recalled products should have a “best if used by” date of Nov. 30, 2019, along with the establishment number “P-7221” printed on the back. These products were shipped all around the country, including going to Washington and Michigan for “ institutional use. “ The decision to recall the chicken came after a pair of customers complained of “extraneous material” in their strips. This most recent situation definitely isn’t the first time a product of theirs has caused some trouble for the company–as a matter of fact, it’s not even the first time this year. Tyson asked customers to return 36,000 pounds of chicken nuggets back in January because they may have been contaminated with rubber. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service gave this recall a “Class I” label, which means a high health risk and a “situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.” Yikes. The agency says if you have any potentially contaminated strips in your fridge or freezer at the moment, you should return them to the store you got them from or just throw them out. The release also points out that “there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.”
