Minute Meditation: Prayer For Commitment

See the article here:

Commitment is a word that drives people. It is the moments in which you  become the most resolute about a decision or choice. What do your choices or non choices say about you? Many of us struggle with making commitments. Many of us do not honor our commitments. It is when we embrace the strength of our word do we become the person that we are destined to be. There is a wonderful  in  Matthew  5:37: Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. How many times have you wished that you could be stronger in w hat you would or world not do. Begin with this prayer: Lord, I give myself to You, whatever the cost may be.  Take every aspect of my life and use me for Your Kingdom to glorify Your Name.  I’m not here on earth to do my own thing, to seek my own fulfillment or my own glory.  I’m not here to indulge my desires, to increase my possessions, to impress people to be popular, to prove I’m somebody important, or to promote myself.  I’m not here to  even be relevant or successful by human standards. I’m here to please You.  To live like this, I yield myself to You, to know You, to love You, to obey You, and to grow in your Holy fear.  I desire to become a person who understands and lives in reverent awe of You.  I’ll do anything that You want me to do, go anywhere that You want me to go and say anything that You want me to say.  Father, there isn’t any gift that You have for me that I don’t want. If You want to use me in a way that I’m not used to, I yield myself to that.  Today, I affirm my love for You, my God, and I choose to live and minister in Your way.  I trust You, Lord, to do that which I cannot do for myself.  Teach me, guide me, and empower me to fear Your name. Today is that chance. You can start right here and now. Try this prayer for 40 days and see what changes in your life. Is Oprah Winfrey Angry At Aretha Franklin?

See the original post here:

Oprah Winfrey is feeling like she was disrespected by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin for granting Wendy Williams the first interview since her surgery. Sources say while Oprah, 57, gives Wendy, 46, credits for snagging the much-coveted sit-down with Aretha, she’s still “steaming,” and feels  that Wendy’s show is “a long way” from hers, and criticizing it for being “silly and gossipy.” “Oprah is about as angry as can be,” said an insider. “This is the final season of her show, and she’s been pushing to land all the big ‘gets’ out there. Oprah is embarrassed that Aretha – a legend – chose Wendy, who is a relative newcomer in the TV talk show world.” “Oprah was not going to keep the whole interview on the illness, which she knows Aretha is reluctant to fully discuss,” said the source. “She was going to get Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, for a touching tribute. But instead, Aretha chose Wendy – and Oprah is NOT happy!” Aretha underwent surgery in December but has never publicly revealed the nature of her health issues. Michael Jackson Album-Cover Artist Explains Hidden Meanings In His Work

Kadir Nelson leads MTV News through his tribute to the King of Pop. By James Montgomery Kadir Nelson Photo: MTV News It is a testament to the legendary life of Michael Jackson that no matter how big a canvas artist Kadir Nelson used to tell MJ’s story — and at 9 feet wide and 4.5 feet tall, he used a pretty big one — he kept running out of room. It seems that Jackson’s reign as the King of Pop was just too lengthy, his list of achievements too large and his life too all-encompassing to be summed up in even the most massive of murals. “Michael’s life was so huge I couldn’t get it all into the painting,” Nelson told MTV News. “So I would take images from throughout his life that were milestones … images that would resonate with his fans. And even doing that was a challenge.” Still, Nelson gave it his best effort, and the result was “The King of Pop,” his epic tribute to Jackson’s life, which struck such a chord with the late icon’s estate (and his label, Sony Music) that it was chosen as the cover for the upcoming Michael album . But what fans see on that album is just a fraction of Nelson’s original work. ” ‘The King of Pop’ is the life story of Michael Jackson, so what you see on the album cover is the centerpiece of the mural; Michael is wearing his famous bejeweled glove, and he’s wearing a golden suit of armor, and he has this collar around his neck, like what you would see in a French painting of King Philip,” Nelson explained. “The theme for this painting is ‘royalty’ and ‘pop,’ because Michael was the King of Pop. So you have Michael being crowned by two Cupids, he has his birthstones in his crown. He’s wearing a soft, velvet drapery over his armor, because Michael had a very soft heart. Also, his hand is placed over his heart, because he had a big heart, and he put that big heart into everything he did.” And radiating from that royal image is Jackson’s life story, which begins with images of his childhood in Gary, Indiana, extends upward to a gallery of his musical influences (Barry Gordy, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye, to name just a few), and then explodes with the launch of his solo career, starting with his star-making turn at the “Motown 25” television special (where he unveiled his “moonwalk” dance) and rolling right along to his Thriller heyday. There are also portions of the painting dedicated to his Bad, Dangerous and HIStory albums, images of his children, the omnipresent media that followed him everywhere, and the women he shared close relationships with (Liz Taylor, Lisa Marie Presley and Madonna). There are also, as Nelson explained, coded images hidden throughout the painting, everything from bubbles (blown by his pet chimpanzee, of course), an apple (because, as the painter explained, “kids would call [Jackson] ‘Applehead’ on his Neverland Ranch”), Peter Pan soaring off into the Northern Lights (meant to symbolize Jackson’s ascension after his death) and, perhaps the most striking image of all, a golden throne atop a mountain: Jackson’s throne, never to be occupied again. “It’s empty,” Nelson explained, “Because no one will ever sit in it now that he’s gone.” What do you think of the Michael cover? Mark Ronson Working On D’Angelo album

Producer says D’Angelo has been working ‘nonstop’ on new music. By Mawuse Ziegbe Mark Ronson Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Mark Ronson might be the key to getting some of soul music’s notoriously reclusive artists back in the studio. In addition to a June session with Amy Winehouse for her contribution to a Quincy Jones tribute album, Ronson said he’s slated to work on new material with R&B artist D’Angelo. The British producer told Billboard that he was “going into the studio … to work a bit on his record, and I have equal parts intimidation and awe and excitement.” After releasing two acclaimed albums, 1995’s Brown Sugar and Voodoo in 2000, D’Angelo has, for the most part, vanished from the scene, only occasionally dropping vocals on projects like Q-Tip’s 2008 album The Renaissance and Raphael Saadiq’s 2002 Instant Vintage LP. The singer may have shied away from the limelight in recent years, but Ronson said he’s been staying busy. “I know he’s been working nonstop. It’s not like they’ve been sitting on their asses.” Ronson also revealed that D’Angelo has been keeping up on music during his hiatus. The singer and multi-instrumentalist, who covered Smokey Robinson on his debut and boasts a repertoire that often references throwback R&B sounds, said he’s kept a pair of sonically retro albums in rotation. “I was pretty much floored when D said that the only two records of the past five to six years that he really listened to a lot were St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley and [Amy Winehouse’s] Back to Black, ‘ ” said Ronson, who crafted Winehouse’s 2007 hit album. “I was like, ‘I cannot believe I made something that this guy listened to over and over again and looked to for inspiration.’ ” Are you looking forward to a new D’Angelo album? Snoop Dogg Plans ‘Music, Comedy’ Tour With Mike Epps

‘I had to find somebody who I could match and who could match me,’ MC says of his comedian co-headliner. By Shaheem Reid Snoop Dogg Photo: MTV News LL Cool J went from Hollis to Hollywood, and Snoop Dogg plans to take it from Long Beach To Las Vegas. The hip-hop legend starts a tour of Casinos on April 30 in San Diego along with co-headliner Mike Epps. The Dogg says the two performers’ worlds will combine well onstage. “Mike Epps is exceptional,” Snoop said. “He’s the equivalent to Snoop Dogg in comedy. People love him. They respect his comedy, his views, his vision. He’s not too political, he’s not too raunchy. He’s not too offensive. When you say Mike Epps, people laugh. They smile. They associate him with funny. When you say Snoop Dogg, people get excited and start singing songs and thinking about certain moments in time when certain records took them to the next day. I had to find somebody who I could match and who could match me as far as putting my show with his show and making our show — a show of all shows that people could talk about for years.” Snoop noted that he and Epps share a lot of the same loves and influences in comedy and music. “We both love the same things: Flip Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson — we was trying to figure out how could those worlds come together and make people enjoy themselves. So we sat down, spent a couple of days together and shot out a couple of ideas. We said, ‘Me and you onstage together is great, but if we’re onstage together and doing a real show, where we’re interacting with a big screen, where it’s movie scenes we shot beforehand, where it intercuts onstage live — music, comedy — it’ll just be a great show.’ The way we putting it together, we’ll be in Vegas one day getting paper. Watch out, Beyonc
