‘jOBS’ Role Sent Ashton Kutcher To Hospital

Ashton Kutcher not only took on Steve Jobs’ persona as a tech magnate, he also adopted the late Apple founder’s alleged fruitarian diet in preparation for the role, which sent him to the hospital, the actor revealed following the premiere of jOBS at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend. [ Related: SUNDANCE WINNERS: ‘Fruitvale’ & ‘Blood Brother’ WIN Top Prizes x 2 ] Often considered a subset of veganism, fruitarianism is a diet that consists of fruit, nuts and seeds, solely without animal products, vegetables and grains. Motivations for fruitarianism range from ethical, health, religious and environmental or other reasons. “First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to, like, severe issues,” Kutcher told USA Today. “I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was like doubled over in pain. My pancreas levels were completely out of whack. It was really terrifying…considering everything.” Jobs died of pancreatic cancer in October 2011. Kutcher said he spent hundreds of hours going over tapes of Jobs hoping to master his mannerisms and hunched walk. The actor, who has a massive Twitter following, said he felt close to the late magnate in part because they share an affinity for the “tech space.” “He’s a guy that failed and got back on the horse,” noted Kutcher. “I think we can all sort of relate to that in some place in our life where we are moving forward with something and we fall down. You have to have the guts to get back up and go again. I think I share that as well.” jOBS opens with the period Steve Jobs founded Apple in a garage in Palo Alto, California up to when he launched the iPod in 2001. Oscar-winning writer of The Social Network , Aaron Sorkin, is also planning a Jobs biopic based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling biography. The Sorkin version will reportedly comprise of three extended scenes, according to The Guardian, each leading up to a pivotal product launch. [ Sources: The Guardian , USA Today ]

You Gon’ Learn Today: Teacher Faces Termination After She Posts Pictures Of Students With Duct Tape Over Their Mouths

Funny or too far? Ohio Teacher Suspended After She Duct Taped Students Mouths Shut An Ohio teacher who jokingly allowed her students to pass around duct tape and scissors in class and tape their own mouths shut to “keep them quiet” has now found herself in a situation that’s no laughing matter. via NBC News An Ohio math teacher could be fired after posting a Facebook photo of her students with duct tape over their mouths, according to local media reports. Middle school teacher Melissa Cairns told newsnet5.com in Cleveland that she gave a female student a roll of duct tape after the girl asked for tape to fix a binder. Cairns claims the student then cut a piece of tape, put it over her own mouth and laughed. The incident happened last October at Buchtel Community Learning Center in Akron. “The other kids in the class thought it was funny also, and they proceeded to pass the tape and scissors around the class,” Cairns told newsnet5.com. Ultimately, eight or nine students put tape on their mouths, Akron Public Schools told newsnet5.com. Thinking her Facebook privacy settings would only show her friends, the math teacher posted a picture of the duct-taped students on the social network, with a caption that read, according to newsnet5.com: “Finally found a way to get them to be quiet!!!” What say you, Bossipers? Was this teacher out of line….or did this joke just get taken a lil too seriously? Image via Shutterstock

OMG! Candice Swanepoel Posted a Bikini Pic of the Day

I am pretty sure that like a pornstar with a contract…or a WWE superstar with a contract…Candice Swanepoel has a contract with Victoria’s Secret and they own all aspects of her career…because why wouldn’t they?! I mean they found her, they pumped millions into marketing her, they let her on their all star team, they should fucking monetize and benefit from all aspects of her career because it all stems back to them…I mean it’s not like they are nice people, just helping a South African friend get ahead, introducing her to the right people, they are a business and she’s a pivotal part of it, at least right now… So in them owning her, I can assume that they also run all her social media, as if she’s a line of panties, and they use her followers to shout themselves out while posting standard archive pics like this, and it’s really not all that bad of a thing….considering she’s half naked in it and that half nakedness totally blinds me from all the evil that surrounds her…from Blood Diamonds….to Blood lace and not just cuz of an unexpected miscarriage or period….all business is evil at least when it comes to Candice Swanepoel….

Catfish Exposed: Notre Dame Heisman Candidate Baller Manti Te’o’s “Dead Girlfriend” Story Was All A Hoax!!!

There really aren’t many words to describe this story, just read it for yourself Manti Te’o’s Girlfriend Lennay Kekua Is Revealed As A Fraud Via Deadspin Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. A Mormon linebacker who led his Catholic school’s football program back to glory, Te’o was whipsawed between personal tragedies along the way. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te’o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. Kekua, 22 years old, had been in a serious car accident in California, and then had been diagnosed with leukemia. SI’s Pete Thamel described how Te’o would phone her in her hospital room and stay on the line with her as he slept through the night. “Her relatives told him that at her lowest points, as she fought to emerge from a coma, her breathing rate would increase at the sound of his voice,” Thamel wrote. Upon receiving the news of the two deaths, Te’o went out and led the Fighting Irish to a 20-3 upset of Michigan State, racking up 12 tackles. It was heartbreaking and inspirational. Te’o would appear on ESPN’s College GameDay to talk about the letters Kekua had written him during her illness. He would send a heartfelt letter to the parents of a sick child, discussing his experience with disease and grief. The South Bend Tribune wrote an article describing the young couple’s fairytale meeting—she, a Stanford student; he, a Notre Dame star—after a football game outside Palo Alto. This is where isht gets SUPER UGLY! Manti Te’o did lose his grandmother this past fall. Annette Santiago died on Sept. 11, 2012, at the age of 72, according to Social Security Administration records in Nexis. But there is no SSA record there of the death of Lennay Marie Kekua, that day or any other. Her passing, recounted so many times in the national media, produces no obituary or funeral announcement in Nexis, and no mention in the Stanford student newspaper. Nor is there any report of a severe auto accident involving a Lennay Kekua. Background checks turn up nothing. The Stanford registrar’s office has no record that a Lennay Kekua ever enrolled. There is no record of her birth in the news. Outside of a few Twitter and Instagram accounts, there’s no online evidence that Lennay Kekua ever existed. The photographs identified as Kekua—in online tributes and on TV news reports—are pictures from the social-media accounts of a 22-year-old California woman who is not named Lennay Kekua. She is not a Stanford graduate; she has not been in a severe car accident; and she does not have leukemia. And she has never met Manti Te’o. Deadspin has assembled a timeline of Manti’s and Kekua’s relationship that is pretty extensive, but we’re just gonna cut to the most disturbing part of it. Sept. 22, 2012: Kekua’s funeral takes place in Carson, Calif. (The Associated Press puts it in “Carson City, Calif.,” which does not exist.) Te’o skips the funeral, saying Kekua had insisted that he not miss a game (Los Angeles Times). Her casket is closed at 9 a.m. Pacific time, according to Te’o. That night, Notre Dame beats Michigan, 13-6, to go to 4-0, the school’s best start in a decade. Te’o intercepts two passes. After the game, he says of Lennay: “All she wanted was some white roses. So I sent her roses and sent her two picks along with that.” Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly awards the game ball to Lennay Kekua, handing it to Te’o to “take back to Hawaii.” It was around this time that Te’o’s Heisman campaign began in earnest, aided in part by the South Bend Tribune. He appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Oct. 1 issue, above the headline, “The Full Manti.” And it was around this time that Manti and his father began filling in details about the linebacker’s relationship with Lennay. Brian Te’o told multiple reporters that the family had never met Kekua; the Te’os were supposed to spend time with her when they visited South Bend, Ind., for Notre Dame’s Senior Day on Nov. 17. The elder Te’o told the South Bend Tribune in October, “[W]e came to the realization that she could be our daughter-in-law. Sadly, it won’t happen now.” Lennay Kekua’s death resonated across the college football landscape—especially at Notre Dame, where the community immediately embraced her as a fallen sister. Charity funds were started, and donations poured into foundations dedicated to leukemia research. More than $3,000 has been pledged in one IndieGogo campaign raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. But it wasn’t just Manti’s family that was fooled, the entire sports world went for the-banana-in-the-tailpipe. Te’o’s story moved beyond the world of sports. On the day of the BCS championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama, CBS This Morning ran a three-minute story that featured a direct quote from Lennay Kekua: “Babe, if anything happens to me, you promise that you’ll stay there and you’ll play and you’ll honor me through the way you play.” This is quite possibly the craziest isht we’ve ever read, and that is saying a lot for us. This story is very long and very detailed, you can read the remainder of the story on the Deadspin link at the top. We’re gonna try to figure out what the hell is wrong with the world when isht like this can go down right in front of our eyes and no one is the wiser. SMMFH Image via AP

Michael Haneke Has Little ‘Amour’ For Parody Twitter Account

Amour director Michael Haneke is aware of the parody Twitter account that bears his name, and, as you might expect from a filmmaker who’s made an incredibly intense, Oscar-nominated film about love, life and death, he’s not too worked up about it.  @Michael_Haneke has been live on the social media site since November and has amassed more than 15,000 followers by adopting a voice that couldn’t be more at odds with the 70-year-old Austrian filmmaker’s bleak, unsentimental perspective:  The Twitter-verse version of Haneke sounds like a tequila-drinking, hip-hop-loving frat boy twink who’s as contemporary as the real director is old school. He also loves to zing  Terrence Malick , to remind Ben Affleck that he was not nominated for a Best Director Oscar and to gloat over the five Oscar nominations that Amour got on Jan. 10. That means a lot of laughs, although Haneke doesn’t necessarily see the humor in it.  At the Golden Globes on Sunday night, The Los Angeles Times asked the real Haneke about the Twitter parody, and the director told the paper that his students at the Vienna Film Academy where he teaches, “said there was a weird Twitter account.” Then he added: “But I’m not that interested in that kind of thing. It’s not for me.” He doesn’t sound all that incensed, and he shouldn’t be. If you have a sense of humor, the fake Michael Haneke is one funny dude: agh im in los angelies and i left my saruman tunic back in vienna!!1! i was gona punk the guy at kfc lol— Michael Haneke (@Michael_Haneke) January 14, 2013 . @ benaffleck well dun 4 winnin best director last nite. best of luck at the oscars. o wait, jst rememburd ur not nominaytid. my bad lol— Michael Haneke (@Michael_Haneke) January 14, 2013 heres me havin a secret nap wen @ benaffleck was doin his speech! wot did i miss? did he announce daredevil 2 yet lol http://t.co/vI3qAMUe — Michael Haneke (@Michael_Haneke) January 15, 2013 i jst got an amour tshirt made. it says “i made a film about strokes + all i got was this tshirt, a parms dorz + 5 oscar nominayshuns” lol— Michael Haneke (@Michael_Haneke) January 11, 2013 on my roof drinkin tequila and screemn the lyrix 2 'i got 5 on it' but im changin 'on it' to 'oscar nominayshuns' lol #friday — Michael Haneke (@Michael_Haneke) January 11, 2013 Oh yeah, and Ellen Page digs him too: A tweet from you is an honor sir “@ Michael_Haneke : thx 4 the follow. ur purformans in junebug is the reeson i has a hamburgr fone lol”— Ellen Page (@EllenPage) January 15, 2013 [ Los Angeles Times ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. A “Lil Positivity”: Chicago’s Chatham Community Holds On To Their Neighborhood Amid Violence And Financial Strains

It’s been a violent year in Chicago , but long-time residents of Chatham are still fighting to keep their neighborhood safe after the death of one of their own rocked the community. And with the recession affecting small businesses, a once vibrant, middle-class neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side seems to be hanging on by a thread. Via The New York Times : The neighborhood’s best-known restaurants were failing, its crime rate was on the rise, and for the first time that anyone could remember there were foreclosures, with once tidy bungalows sitting empty and dark. For all that, the social scientists studying Chicago neighborhoods in 2010 were betting that the middle-class enclave of Chatham, on the city’s South Side, would remain stable through the recession. It had done so for decades, while surrounded by impoverished areas. It had somehow absorbed a wave of newcomers from recently demolished housing projects. And the researchers’ data suggested that its strong identity and scores of active block groups had helped protect residents from larger economic threats and offered clues about how to preserve threatened urban communities all over the country. Chatham should hold, barring some unforeseen cataclysm. The cataclysm hit on May 19 of that year. That night, a group of assailants jumped Thomas Wortham IV, an off-duty police officer and Iraq war veteran, as he was leaving his parents’ house. He resisted and was shot, bleeding to death on the street where he grew up. The entire city seemed to stop for breath, holding a memorial attended by hundreds of fellow police officers and citizens, Mayor Richard M. Daley and Gov. Pat Quinn of Illinois. “We were blindsided by this; blindsided by what happened to Tommy,” said his mother, Carolyn Wortham. “And yes, you begin to question everything.” In Chatham, it seemed, all bets were off. Many residents began to think the unthinkable, that maybe it was time to escape the place they had done so much to build. The community’s response to the crisis would test a theory emerging from an ambitious, nearly decade-long study of all of Chicago’s neighborhoods — that a neighborhood’s character shapes its economic future at least as much as more obvious factors like income levels and foreclosure rates. “If Chatham could maintain its relative stability despite such great challenges,” said William Julius Wilson, a professor of sociology and social policy at Harvard and the author of the 1987 classic, “The Truly Disadvantaged,” “then I think this concept of a neighborhood effect will be a landmark contribution, helping us understand how to prevent the out-migration of citizens and strengthen neighborhoods” at risk of falling into poverty. …Older residents, perpetually anxious that the younger generation is losing their values of tidiness and mutual respect, now had visible evidence of social erosion. They saw it in the habits of their new neighbors, many of them moving from the Robert Taylor Homes, which were torn down in the mid-2000s. “The big change going on is that the grandparents are moving out, and some of the younger kids coming in here are picking up behaviors that you would never have seen in Chatham before,” said Worlee Glover, a salesman who runs a blog called Concerned Citizens of Chatham. “Loitering out on 79th. Walking up and down the street, eating out of a bag. Eating out on the porch. Those kinds of things.” “Chatham and neighboring Avalon Park are both working class communities, not core ghetto areas, and both were hit hard by recession, particularly Chatham, which got hit economically and with incidents of violence.Twice in previous weeks, young men from outside the area had fired shots into the scrum around the basketball courts at Cole Park, just across the street from the Worthams’ house. Cole Park, all picnics and playgrounds when Thomas IV was growing up, now resembled a street party on most evenings, with teenagers coming just to hang out, Mrs. Wortham said. Seniors and parents of young children stayed away. “People came from all over the South Side to play at Cole Park for the very reason that it was a safe park,” said Thomas Wortham III, his father. “But it got to where no one was controlling it.” Chatham has more than a hundred block groups, citizen volunteers who monitor the tidiness of neighborhood lawns, garbage, and noise, as well as organize events, Mr. Tate said. The neighborhood has something else that many nearby areas do not: uniformly small buildings. Neat rows of one-story brick bungalows and ranch houses stand shoulder to shoulder, at attention, astride modest commercial strips, with few buildings more than three stories tall. …The ultimate verdict, for Chatham and for the neighborhood effect, may lie in what the Worthams and people like them do in historically cohesive urban communities threatened by creeping poverty and violence. “I sure did consider leaving when Tommy was killed,” Mrs. Wortham said. She took a deep breath. “But you know, whenever something like this happens, there’s plenty of blame to go around. People want to blame the city, the community organizations, the churches, all that. But nothing changes unless people look after their children, and the neighbors do, too. If people aren’t behaving, you say something. When I went to school, if I did something wrong, by the time I got home my mother knew about it.” Community involvement is key in any area. Do you think Chicago’s lack of racial integration on social, economic, and educational scales is a factor in part of the problem? Images via AP
