The anticipation levels couldn’t be any higher over in these parts when it comes to Nas’ new album Life Is Good but in the meantime we have been happily taking in all the leaked songs, interview excerpts and video footage from Nas’current European tour. Speaking of which, Nas just released this live performance of “A Queens Story” with Green Lantern from their Paris show. Check it out: And it’s interesting that he declares Marvin Gaye his favorite artist in that clip, because he’s described “Life Is Good” as his own version of Gaye’s “Here, My Dear” particularly because he’s holding part of Kelis’ dress on the album cover: “I found it in my house and thought, it’s going somewhere! Either on the cover of my album, or burning in a garbage can.” He laughs. “I was angry when I first found it. Hurt and angry – but I don’t think she left it deliberately to hurt me. It’s just part of the dress, so I don’t know where the rest of it is. But it made all the sense in the world for me to … hold on to that.” He pauses. “I guess that’s just my personality. “My wedding and my marriage was, for the most part, some of the most amazing times of my life.” He clears his throat. “She’s an incredible woman. It just ended really publicly, it seemed real bad. I guess this is my Here, My Dear album, that Marvin Gaye made. It might not be quite so much about the marriage or the divorce, but it’s still that kind of record for me.” The latest song to leak off “Life is Good” is a brilliant tribute to his former lady love Kelis called “Bye Baby.” The song, produced by Salaam Remi and Noah “40″ Shebib samples Guy’s “Goodbye Love” and we couldn’t help but to smile a little as Nas recounts his life with his former wife. If you haven’t heard it yet, you have to check it out: Do you think Nas will catch any flack for getting “sensitive” in song? Just a thought. Hit the flip for Nas’ collabo with Amy Winehouse.
Sportscaster Lamar Hurd Aims To Be First African-American Star Of ABC’s “The Bachelor” We’re not gonna lie — we’re not big fans of ABC’s “The Bachelor” and a lot of the reason why is because we’ve felt like it wasn’t for “us.” So we can’t help but be excited about this Lamar Hurd character who is now vying for the spot for Season 17 of the show. Here’s a little more info: Last year show creator, Mike Fleiss told Entertainment Weekly that he and his production team are always looking to cast for ethnic diversity, “it’s just that for whatever reason, they don’t come forward. I wish they would.” Well look no further, Portland-based sportscaster Lamar Hurd is vying to become the show’s first African American hopeful. Initially the multifaceted commentator and entrepreneur was reluctant to apply for the show’s upcoming season, but thanks to his assistant, Tammy, Hurd has a different point of view. Something tells us this VOGUE interview wasn’t the “Smartest” idea. Jennifer Lopez covers the April issue and inside you get a pretty good picture of J.Lo and the three main men in her life (soon to be ex Marc Anthony, manager Benny Medina and new boo Casper Smart). Check out the excerpts and photos below: On Her Relationship With Marc Anthony: Anthony peeks his head into the dressing room with his name on it and says, “Where is she?” He eyes the door across the hall and says to no one in particular, “She in here?” He puts his ear to the door and then gently raps on it with his knuckle. “Security,” he says with a devilish smirk, and then nothing. So he knocks harder. “Security!” When he hears that telltale giggle, a big grin spreads across his face, and he opens the door and slips inside. Lopez and Anthony are here today on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank for a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote their new Latin talent show, ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, which will premiere on Fox in early March. Lest you think it’s all smiles for the cameras but war behind the scenes, the two spend the next hour huddled in her dressing room, still friends after all these months. Indeed, in one of the clips from ¡Q’Viva! that they share with Ellen, the two of them bicker like, well, an old married couple, and Lopez cracks that they are the new Sonny and Cher, a knowing joke that grows more apt the further it sinks in. Seven years ago, at Lopez’s Vogue shoot, I noticed that Anthony hung around the set both days, drinking cans of beer and chain-smoking Newports. Lopez is a famous teetotaler. How is this going to work? I thought. When I mention this to her, she cracks up. “He’s still doing it! Look, we are total opposites that way. I’m used to that from growing up where I did. The men kind of drink beer and smoke cigarettes, and women kind of like . . . don’t. But those things were not the issue so much. It became about something else. Without going into detail . . . it’s just really, really sad. And look, we are still going through it, and it’s emotional sometimes and difficult. We’re still friends—and we’re parents. But it’s going to take time.” She pauses. “It’s tough. But for the most part, I feel very proud of the way we’re handling it. I really do. We are doing the best we can for the kids. What you saw today, on Ellen, it’s very dignified and trying to be above all the emotions and pain that come along with a divorce and a family breaking apart. This is grown-up stuff. It’s real, serious, grown-up stuff.” Sounds like it’s not as bad as we thought, but it still ain’t all good… Hit the flip for more on J.Lo’s journey to loving herself better, her relationship with Benny Medina, her kids and how that damn Casper snatched that culo!

Pray for one of the greatest leaders… Former South African President Nelson Mandela has been hospitalized with a stomach ailment, according to a government statement issued Saturday about the 93-year-old anti-apartheid icon. President Jacob Zuma asked that Mandela’s privacy be respected, and did not say at which hospital Mandela was being treated. Mac Maharaj, Zuma’s spokesman, said he could not elaborate but that he would be issuing regular updates. Mandela became South Africa’s first black president in 1994 after spending 27 years in prison for his fight against racist apartheid rule, and was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. His public appearances have become increasingly rare, and he was hospitalized last year for a few days with an acute respiratory infection. We hope he has a full recovery very soon! More On Bossip! Can’t really argue with their logic… Author and activist Maya Angelou hopes for a time when Black History Month will no longer be needed to explain the contributions of African-Americans. “We want to reach a time when there won’t be Black History Month, when black history will be so integrated into American history that we study it along with every other history,” she said in an interview from her home in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Wednesday. “That’s the hope, and we have to continue to work until that is true, until that becomes a fact.” In the meantime, she said, she will continue to put the history out there. Angelou is hosting an hour-long syndicated radio special on the civil rights era that will air throughout this month on about 200 public radio stations across the country. Her special features Grammy award-winning singer Mary J. Blige, Democratic Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, economist and Bennett College President Julianne Malveaux, and professor Nikky Finney, winner of the 2011 National Book Award for poetry. Angelou, 83, said she hopes the program sends a message that “the work of making our country more than it is today” is unfinished.
