Forgive us for ripping off a previous CW marketing campaign, but: OMFG . There really is no alternate reaction to the trio of covers Entertainment Weekly just released in honor of The Vampire Diaries , specifically stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. All three are featured across the main cover and two collector’s items, and nary a shirt is to be seen… Copies of the issue go on sale Friday, while inside producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson dish on the challenge of writing for a show with dueling, passionate fan bases. “When we want Stefan and Elena to have a moment together, how can we do that and not have our Delena fans outraged?” Plec asks . We’ve got an idea, Julie: just take Damon’s shirt off. That will satisfy all viewers.
It’s totally on between two of the hunkiest actors on television. Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, brother typically at odds with each other on The Vampire Diaries , both walked the red carpet of the People’s Choice Awards in Hollywood last night. And while each can agree he’s happy co-star Nina Dobrev took home the trophy for Favorite TV Drama Actress , that’s where the pleasantries end – and the showdown begins! Ian Somerhalder is so much more than a pretty face. While the actor is accustomed to making female viewers scream on The Vampire Diaries , he went to D.C. this week with the goal of making Congress listen. The founder of The IS Foundation – which aims to “positively impact the planet and its creatures” – Somerhalder testified before lawmakers on behalf of the Multinational Species Coalition. Ian Somerhalder Speaks to Congress “Wildlife and environmental conservation has always been not just a passion, but a priority of mine,” he said, hoping to raise funds for organizations that include the World Wildlife Fund, the Sierra Club and the National Audubon Society. A native of Louisiana, Somerhalder has worked tirelessly to clean up disasters in that area such as the April 2010 BP oil spill. But he cast an even wider net in this appearance, referencing African elephants, marine turtles, tigers, gorillas and chimpanzees and saying: “Due to instability or indifference in the areas that many of these species call home, for most of them we are the first, last, and only hope for survival. As the ones with the power to make a difference, the responsibility rests with us. It is imperative that we live up to it. “On behalf of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation and the Alliance for Global Conservation, I urge the Subcommittee to mark-up H.R. 50 and move to reauthorize this important piece of legislation.”
You’ve really gotta love Ian Somerhalder. And not just for his smile, or body, or snarky one-liners on The Vampire Diaries . This actor simply comes across laid back and humorous (not to mention charitable ). Most recent case in point: Somerhalder appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and accidentally revealed where he lives in Los Angeles. Throughout this week, all major networks descended upon New York City for their annual Upfront Presentations. At these events, each delivered its 2010-2011 primetime schedule. We’d show you photos from the CBS festivites, but stars on that channel’s shows are old. On NBC, they’ll all probably be replaced by Jay Leno soon. Fox, meanwhile, can get back to us when it replaces Simon Cowell on American Idol ; and we’re mad at ABC taking away Lost from us this Sunday.
