Freeway Hits The ‘RapFix Live’ Couch Wednesday!

Philly MC will talk his post-Roc career and State Property reunion at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Freeway Photo: Gregg Delman After celebrating the one-year anniversary of “RapFix Live” in grand fashion, MTV News’ live hip-hop show returns for year two with Freeway on Wednesday. Last week, Lloyd Banks, Maino, Diplomats capo Jim Jones, Consequence, the Outlawz, Reek Da Villian, Superstar Jay and DJ Love Dinero all crashed the couch and toasted to “RapFix Live” and the year that was. Now, Philadelphia MC Freeway will set off year two. In 2003, Free dropped his debut album on Roc-A-Fella Records and, in the label’s heyday, stood as one of the Roc’s most loyal soldiers. Through his career, Philly Freezer has earned a rep as one of the game’s most-skilled spitters, going head-to-head with rappers like Cassidy and Jaz-O. Post-Roc-A-Fella, the State Property MC carried on, releasing his sophomore album, Free At Last (though the record technically came out on the Roc, Jay-Z and Damon Dash had long disbanded), as well as a number of critically acclaimed independent projects like The Stimulus Package with producer Jake One. While a Roc reunion is highly unlikely, Freeway and his State Property brothers came together for a concert this past July and are now planning a comeback project. “When we got together, we had our meeting, our initial conversation about doing what we thought was necessary for us and for music, for everybody’s careers as State Property the group and solo careers,” Beanie Sigel said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” in July. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV Near-Million Sales ‘Cool’ With Birdman

On Sway’s Shade 45 radio show, Baby shoots down rumors that Cash Money bought up Weezy’s albums to ensure a big debut. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne and Birdman Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV may have fallen just short of the million mark in its first full week of sales, but Birdman feels platinum regardless. The #1 Stunna spoke with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on his Shade 45 “Sway in the Morning” radio show about Weezy’s #1 album and 964,000 copies sold. “People doin’ different numbers,” Birdman said of the initial predictions, which had Wayne selling more than a million. “But this comes from Billboard. To me, that’s a million; 964, we right there, so it’s cool. We’ll just keep grinding, I guess.” Baby also touched on the Internet rumors that he and Cash Money purchased copies of Tha Carter IV to ensure a mega-sales debut. “Nah, man, that really don’t make no sense. Why would we do that?” Birdman asked. “I press and distribute ’em. Ain’t no need for me to buy ’em. That’s hustling backwards; we ain’t in it for that. I ain’t ever been a part of that type of scheme to be buyin’ records. We don’t do that, homey. We be working too hard to be — that don’t go with what we do. We truly what we do. We’re real about what we do, we work hard every day at it, and we work for the people. That’s what we do music for: for people. And we appreciate the love they give us back. But no such thing as me buying no CDs. I wouldn’t even play it like that.” After being pressed by Sway, the Cash Money CEO estimated that the company made about $10 per album sold, but the exact number remains to be seen. Regardless, Birdman insists that the Cash Money/ Young Money camp is back to work and focusing on Drake’s sophomore album, Take Care, which is set to be released October 24. Catch MTV News’ Sway Calloway on “Sway in the Morning,” on SiriusXM Radio’s Shade 45 , Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon ET. Related Artists Birdman Lil Wayne

Keri Hilson Debuts New Single, ‘Breaking Point’

Timbaland-produced track is first offering from her sophomore album, No Boys Allowed. By Jayson Rodriguez Keri Hilson Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Keri Hilson debuted her new single, “Breaking Point,” on Atlanta radio Wednesday, the first offering from her forthcoming sophomore album, No Boys Allowed. The perky-but-slow number was produced by Timbaland, who, along with Polow Da Don, will executive-produce Hilson’s new project. On the track, Hilson is feisty and voices the frustration of women who are neglected and taken advantage of by men. “Every woman has a breaking point, y’all,” she sings on the chorus. “Hey, I know you know, some women can be lied to, cheated on and beat on/ Somebody know, hey, every woman has a breaking point, y’all/ Tell me how we put up with that/ You cant forget that/ See, I done did that/ But this time, there’s a limit to my love.” No Boys Allowed is slated for a late-2010 release, and a video for “Breaking Point” is set to be shot next month. Earlier this year, Hilson told MTV News that her travels around the world would influence her next album. “Everywhere I travel, I get music from that region of the world,” she said. “I’ve been to Nigeria, I’ve been to South Africa, three cites in Africa [in all]. I gather music from these regions, and African music is very drum-heavy. It was very inspiring. I’m definitely going to be using some of that inspiration.” In addition to Timbaland and Polow Da Don, Ryan Leslie is expected to produce material for No Boys Allowed. Leslie said he and Hilson have worked on music together, and one song in particular he described in April sounds like it would please Timbaland. “One of my favorite productions while I was out there is a Keri record, but it’s very reminiscent of Aaliyah,” Leslie said. “I remember making the record and her saying, ‘Man, [Timbaland] is gonna love this’ — we hadn’t played it for him yet — and saying, ‘It’s gonna remind him of baby girl.’ ” What do you think about Keri Hilson’s new song?
