The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has already established itself as the perfect forum for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s haunting, crunchy musical stylings, but the full breadth of its soundtrack is a bit of a disappointment: It’s only three full-length CDs! Damn it. That’s barely enough music to occupy me during a four-hour flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. Underachievers. Find out where you can get the soundtrack’s Karen O.-led cover of “Immigrant Song,” as well as a few clips from the new package, after the jump.
First single from Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross soundtrack is Karen O cover of Led Zeppelin song. By Gil Kaufman Rooney Mara in “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” Photo: Giles Keyte/Columbia Pictures You kind of can’t go wrong when the soundtrack you’ve put together for one of the most eagerly-anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O’s take on Led Zeppelin ‘s “Immigrant Song.” Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O did when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film-composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their “Tattoo” score album. The follow-up to their award-winning “The Social Network” score was a labor of love, according to a post Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. “For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,’ ” he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) and her muckraking journalist compatriot Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) . “We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The result is a sprawling three-hour opus.” The album will be released on iTunes on December 9 in two versions. Right now, you can download the Karen O song on iTunes when you pre-order the 39-track album. That download purchase will also give you a link to the eight-minute “Dragon Tattoo” trailer , for which Reznor and Ross created a unique score. But, if you visit the NIN online store , Reznor is offering the soundtrack in a variety of forms, from a free six-track sampler to a deluxe 3,000-piece limited-edition signed $300 package with your choice of MP3 formats; the full album on six pieces of 180 gram vinyl; a deluxe book package with a metal cover; an exclusive custom 8 GB metal razor blade USB drive pendant containing the full album; and a fold-out poster. The full album score track list is as follows:
When we first met this young lady, we would have never pegged her as one to end up with this much ink on her. Since then she’s toured the world with two urban pop-ish groups masterminded by the same man. Can you guess who this is? That is Dawn Richard in the pages of Edge Magazine, getting her flex on now that she’s broken free of Diddy’s chains her first solo album, Golden Hear, is in the works. Of course she geared up for it with the release of her Tell Tale Hear mixtape last year. And she talked to Edge about what that project meant. “I wanted people to literally fall into my heart. And if they could hear each beat of my heart those songs would be the sound. If you took a walk in my heart those songs would be the soundtrack”. That’s the mind of Dawn Richard. She’s discussing her mixtape, A Tell Tale Heart, which went viral earlier this year and proved that she was more than just “that girl from Making the Band”. Y’all might still be calling her that. Or “Dawn from Dirty Money,” which she isn’t anymore (no one will explain exactly what happened), but that’s not stopping Dawn’s hustle. In fact, she just dropped a new Christmas song called “December Sky” for the people… and so that you won’t forget that she can saaaaang, dammit! “A lot of people won’t be able to see their loved ones this Christmas,” says Dawn. “Whether they are serving in Iraq/Iran, in the industry or working a 9 to 5, the truth is a lot of us aren’t able to make it home for the holidays. So this record is for them and anyone else missing their love – the sky and stars are a gift for us both because no matter how far apart we are, we are under the same sky.” Hit the flip to check out “December Sky” and more pics from Dawn’s Edge spread.

Late yesterday, the nominees for the 54th Grammys were announced and now that we’ve had nearly a day to absorb the fact that Zooey Deschanel, Seth MacFarlane and Cher are going head-to-head for a golden statuette, we can decide which artists deserve awards for their soundtrack contributions.
‘Young, Wild & Free’ is first clip off ‘Mac & Devin Go to High School’ soundtrack. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa on the set of “Young, Wild & Free” Photo: Matt Elias/MTV News The school year may already be in full swing, but on Wednesday, fans will get their first glimpse of Snoop Dogg and ‘s “Mac & Devin Go to High School” film when the smoked-out duo premiere the video for “Young, Wild & Free” on MTV. Starting at 6 a.m. ET the video will debut across MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV.com and MTV Jams, where it will play every hour. Directed by Dylan Brown, “Young, Wild & Free,” featuring Bruno Mars on the hook, is the first video from the official “Mac & Devin Go to High School” soundtrack. While integrating movie scenes into music videos sometimes gets cumbersome, Dogg and Khalifa worked things out by cleverly filming the clip in a Montclair, California, drive-in theater. “We got some more party scenes where we just gonna be doing our verses and having the scenes from the movie play on the big screen from the actual movie ‘Mac & Devin Go to High School,’ ” Snoop told MTV News on the video set back in October. “So people get a chance to see a few scenes and see us perform at the same time.” In one particular scene, the pair race in off-road karts, with some choice video models in tow. “We just getting it crackin’ in the parking lot, man, turning this thing out, so we had a couple of our little friends in the car and we drove fast,” Wiz said. “I had to level out the playing field; I had some weight issues so I had a couple of girls roll with me to level out my car,” Snoop jokingly added. The song is a carefree affair, with Mars singing, “So what we get drunk, so what we smoke weed/ We’re just having fun, we don’t care who sees” on the track’s hook. Keeping in tune with the single’s theme, Wiz raps about rolling up and sagging his jeans while Snoop rhymes like he’s 17 years old all over again. Khalifa teases that the entire soundtrack will carry a similar mood. “We got the homey Juicy J on the soundtrack, we got Curren$y on the soundtrack, but mainly it’s just me and Dogg,” he said. “It’s a real big deal because nobody’s done it like that as far as a veteran, an O.G. in the game, a pioneer, and then the newest, youngest, most exciting dude in rap coming through and really just giving the people a complete project.” “The music is quality,” Snoop said. But the actor, whose Ra’s Al Ghul is rumored to be in the threequel, says he doesn’t have ‘a f—ing clue’ about the film. By Kevin P. Sullivan Liam Neeson Photo: MTV News Whether Liam Neeson will reprise his villainous role of Ra’s Al Ghul for the final film of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy remains one of the biggest question marks hovering over “The Dark Knight Rises.” Rumors fill Internet forums, hyping the villain’s potential return, but we’ll let you decide if you want to seek out the clues. If you ask Neeson about “Rises,” he might act a little confused. When MTV News sat down with the Academy Award-nominated actor to discuss his upcoming film “The Grey,” Neeson’s role in “Batman Begins” slipped his mind for a second. “You’re throwing me for a loop there,” Neeson said after a long pause. “That’s right. I was in ‘Batman.’ I trained him,” he added in his best Ra’s voice with a laugh. While it’s still up in the air whether he’ll make an appearance, Neeson has already appeared in the form of a voice-over in the trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises,” which recycled some of his lines from “Batman Begins.” One of the hints that has been repeatedly dropped by people involved with the film is that the conclusion to the trilogy brings everything full-circle, perhaps referencing returning elements from “Batman Begins.” With the series drawing to a close, Neeson said he looks back fondly on the first two Batman films and is looking forward to the finale. “Chris Nolan’s made wonderful films, very rich, dark and complex, especially [‘The Dark Knight’]. Of course, it was cloaked in tragedy,” Neeson said, referencing the death of Heath Ledger. But when it comes to “Rises,” Neeson claims to be completely in the dark. “I’m eager to see this one,” he said. “I haven’t a f—ing clue what it’s about.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Sleeping At Last’s Ryan O’Neal calls submitting ‘Turning Page’ for the soundtrack a ‘shot in the dark,’ in ‘Twilight’ Tuesday. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit We’re back again for another “Twilight” Tuesday , our recently resurrected weekly column dedicated to anything and everything popping in the house that Stephenie Meyer built. Not that we’ve been lacking content this month, since “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1” opens this week, but there’s always something to spotlight. This week’s special subject: the lucky artists on the soundtrack. When you’re associated with any of the “Twilight” films, no matter in what capacity, it’s kind of a big deal — particularly if you are an emerging artist on the music scene and one of your songs is selected to be part of the “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack . That dream recently came true for singer/songwriter Ryan O’Neal from Sleeping At Last when he found out his song “Turning Page” made the final cut. “I wrote ‘Turning Page’ about six months ago, and it was something I felt I really wanted to be from Edward’s perspective,” he told MTV News recently, after a special concert performance for the fans camped out before the premiere in “tent city.” “I thought, ‘That makes sense,’ and things just kind of layered on itself. And after the first few piano chords, I felt like that was where I wanted to go with it. So then I sent it in, which was a total shot in the dark. I hadn’t heard anything [for a while], so I was pretty sure it was a no-go. And then a couple months ago, I got a call and was told it was in some of the parts of the film.” In exactly what parts of the film does his song appear? When Bella is walking down the aisle and during the highly anticipated sex scene. Can you imagine sending in a song as a “shot in the dark” and then finding out that it is featured in not one, but two scenes? And not only that, but those two scenes happen to be two of the most important in the movie? O’Neal is a lucky duck. A hugely talented and deserving one, that is, and very appreciative. “I’m still kind of wrapping my head around the whole thing,” O’Neal said. “I’m so, so privileged. I can’t even believe it.” What would you like to see on “Twilight” Tuesdays? Hit me up @KaraWarner on Twitter to make your voice heard! ‘I’m just so stoked that all these cute girls that like vampires hear my song,’ London says. By Jocelyn Vena Theophilus London Photo: MTV News The soundtrack for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” drops this week, 10 days before the fourth film in the “Twilight Saga” hits theaters. Chock-full of tracks by artists like Bruno Mars (“It Will Rain”) and Christina Perri (“A Thousand Years”) , the emotions on the album mirror the action the Bill Condon-directed flick. For his track, up-and-coming MC Theophilus London wanted to embrace another side of his musical persona. “It was very unusual to do the soundtrack. But as I progress more with my career, I want to do more stuff like that, soundtrack stuff,” he told MTV News at the Glamour Women of the Year event in New York City. “So when they asked me do it, I was very privileged and pleased. I wanted to do a super-emo song about neighbors and how neighbors are very important. A lot of people are freaking out, but it’s a whole new fanbase for me. I’m just so stoked that all these cute girls that like vampires hear my song.” London wrote the track specifically for the flick, which opens November 18, however, he admitted that he hasn’t even seen a moment of any “Twilight” flick. “I wrote the song specifically for the movie without even seeing the movie,” he explained. “I’m happy. I’m sure a lot of musicians and writers want to be a part of the soundtrack. I’m just happy that I got picked over all those other acts. I appreciate it and there’s a lot more to come.” Don’t fret, Twilighters. London has every intention of seeing this next film. “I haven’t seen any of the movies, but I swear when this ‘Twilight’ movie comes out, I’m going to the regular movie theater in a black tie with my friends,” he joked. “And we’ll have a small little red carpet; just stand up in the theater and take our photos.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
