Florida State Prosecutors Charge 13 People With Hazing Death Of FAMU Drum Major Robert Champion

State Of Florida Charges 13 In Hazing Death Of FAMU Drum Major These “kids” could do up to six years behind bars for taking part in the hazing of Robert Champion . Florida prosecutors on Wednesday charged 13 individuals in connection with the hazing death of a Florida A&M University drum major last November, in a case that has heightened scrutiny of violent rituals on college campuses across the country. Lawson Lamar, the state attorney for Orange County, said at a news conference in Orlando that 11 of the people face felony hazing charges, which carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison. The remainder face misdemeanor hazing charges. Mr. Lawson said he would not release the names of those charged, since most of them have not yet been arrested. The death of the drum major, 26-year-old Robert Champion, was “nothing short of an American tragedy,” he said. “We know that Robert Champion died as a result of being beaten” and “his death is not linked to one sole strike but is attributed to multiple blows.” Mr. Champion collapsed aboard a bus in Orlando after a hazing incident following a football game against rival Bethune-Cookman University. The medical examiner’s office in Orlando ruled the death a homicide, caused by internal bleeding resulting from blunt-force trauma. Mr. Champion, who was previously healthy, died within an hour of the hazing incident, according to the medical examiner’s report. An autopsy found “extensive contusions of his chest, arms, shoulder and back,” the report said. In a statement released after the charges, Solomon Badger, chairman of the Florida A&M board of trustees, and university president James Ammons said, “We are vigorously working to eradicate hazing from FAMU and doing everything within our power to ensure an incident like this never happens again. Our hearts and our prayers are with the Champion family and the extended FAMU family as we all continue to deal with this tragedy.” What a terrible tragedy. These charges were vital in order for colleges to take these situations seriously. Robert Champion should not have died. May he rest in peace. Source More On Bossip! Family Matters: Bobby Brown & Bobbi Kristina Reunite For The First Time Since Whitney Houston’s Funeral

We wonder if her boo/brother was there too SMH Bobbi Kristina Brown and Bobby Brown had some quality father-daughter bonding time in the Big Apple on Tuesday and the late Whitney Houston’s daughter and ex-husband didn’t exactly pick a low-profile spot for their reunion: A witness tells Us Weekly exclusively that Bobbi Kristina, 19, and her R&B singer dad, 43, had lunch at Blue Fin, located in the heart of Times Square. The somewhat estranged twomsome were joined by Brown’s longtime girlfriend, Alicia Etheridge and three other unidentified pals. The group’s Blue Fin lunch lasted about an hour and a half and, according to the witness, Bobbi Kristina “was on her phone and texting a crazy amount. She didn’t seem too thrilled to be there, in all honesty.” Bobbi Kristina — who briefly checked into the hospital following her mother’s shocking Feb. 11 death at age 48 — has kept a fairly low profile in the past month. Appearing calm in a March interview with Oprah Winfrey, she said “I’m doing as good as I possibly can at this point. I’m just trying to keep going. . . I feel [my mom] pass through me all the time. I wake up at night.” She raised eyebrows later that month, when she stepped out holding hands with and kissing Nick Gordon, whom Houston informally adopted when he was just 12 year old. A source told Us the pair have been “living like a couple” in Atlanta. “Bobbi Kristina is still so vulnerable since her mother passed away,” the source added. “But Nick has become like her rock.” We hope Bad A$$ Bobby can stay out the clink and get back into his daughter’s life! Tim Burton ‘Never’ Considered ‘Dark Shadows’ A Comedy

Director also opens up on ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel and whether he’d return to ‘Batman.’ By John Mitchell, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros Fans of the classic late-’60s soap “Dark Shadows” were surprised when the trailer for the film made it seem like director Tim Burton had reimagined his subject matter as a farcical comedy rather than the dark, Gothic soap opera fans remembered. Since then, there have been whispers that the film is far darker than it is being marketed, so we went straight to the source to find out what is really up with the buzzed-about film. At CinemaCon 2012, MTV News asked Burton if he felt the trailer is reflective of his film, which hits theaters May 11, and while he admits there are humorous elements to the film, he said he doesn’t believe it can be classified as a comedy. “Everything that’s in [the trailer] is in the movie,” Burton told MTV News. “It’s a funny film for me, because I never considered it a comedy. I was always trying to capture the weird vibe of ‘Dark Shadows,’ which is a weird thing to try to capture. It was a weird daytime soap opera.” Burton, a longtime “Shadows” fan who said he “recalls the show affectionately,” said that whatever humor is in the film is there because the situation Barnabas is in when he is unearthed 200 years after being buried is innately humorous. “It’s not like I’m being campy with it or anything,” Burton said. “The guy’s been locked in a box for 200 years, and [when] he comes out … something weird is going to happen.” As for comparisons to his previous films, most notably “Edward Scissorhands,” Burton said he can see the link, but confessed that there are many subtle differences between Barnabas Collins and any other character he’s put onscreen. “Edward Scissorhands was more of a naive character. Barnabas has been around the block a few times,” Burton told MTV News with a laugh. “There is something about a character who doesn’t quite fit into the world, which is similar, just in this case, he’s been around a long time.” Burton also gave us up-to-date news on one project many of his biggest fans are very excited for: “Beetlejuice 2.” The film is being written by “Shadows” scribe Seth Grahame-Smith, and for Burton, that’s as far as things have gotten. “He’s working away on it,” the director said of Grahame-Smith, “so I’m just waiting to see what he does.” As for whether we can expect him to make a return to “Batman,” the film franchise he started with the original 1989 blockbuster, he was straight to the point, saying, “I think I have enough on my plate.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Dark Shadows.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘The Lucky One’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics find Zac Efron film to be typical Nicholas Sparks fare. By Fallon Prinzivalli Zac Efron in “The Lucky One” Photo: Warner Bros. In the film adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel “The Lucky One,” Zac Efron plays Logan, a Marine who returns from Iraq in search of the woman he believes was his good luck charm overseas. He finds her (Beth, played by Taylor Schilling ) and learns she runs a dog kennel with her son Ben and grandmother Ellie. Despite Beth’s reservations, Ellie hires Logan to help with the work around the kennel, and Ellie ends up warming to the soldier. Overall, critics are not impressed with the Scott Hicks-directed movie, but their reviews are mixed. Some claim that the acting is bland and the storyline is the typical “boy-meets-girl” Sparks experience, while others believe the romance is “well-constructed” given the source material. Either way, the film is sure to appeal to the author’s fans and should fare well with romance lovers at this weekend’s box office. The Story “The Sparks-styled romance has almost become its own movie genre — predictable, pure of heart, sentimental and never straying from the boy-meets-girl basics, or the surface, for that matter — and in that ‘The Lucky One’ delivers.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times The Romance “The central love story is well-constructed for what it is; it offers the requisite amount of fantasy with just a miniscule dollop of realism.” — James Berardinelli, Reelviews “Their love scenes, like every other element of Hicks’ film, are lighted in a way that gives everything an impossibly warm, romantic glow. You can roll your eyes, or you can give in.” — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press Zac Efron “Efron does fill out the hunky-guy uniform nicely. He’s no longer the scrawny teen from ‘High School Musical.’ But despite his promise in smaller movies like ‘Me and Orson Welles,’ here he’s all flat affect, taking bottled-up angst to an extreme where you never actually see it. He’s perfectly likable but never riveting, dropping the ball on the chance to portray the complicated psychology of a war veteran. Apart from one early scene in which he flinches at a video-game shooting, you never have the sense he’s dealing with combat repercussions.” — Sara Stewart, New York Post The Final Word “Part of the experience of a Nicholas Sparks movie is encountering revelations and reversals in the plot that challenge your sense of the preposterous. That’s how destiny works: unlikely incidents pile up [and] good intentions go awry … If realism is what you’re after, you’ll do better at ‘The Three Stooges.’ ‘The Lucky One’ is where you will find death, redemption and kisses in the rain.” — A. O. Scott,

Pippa Middleton Implicated in Gun-Wielding Scandal?!

Pippa Middleton could face criminal charges after a male companion was reportedly caught brandishing a gun and allegedly pointing it at a photographer. The younger sister of Kate Middleton was in the passenger seat of an Audi convertible with three male friends Sunday in Paris when all hell broke loose. The driver allegedly reached for a semi-automatic gun and jokingly aimed it at a celebrity gossip photographer following them, London’s The Sun reports. The image, released to the Sun by the French photographer at whom the pistol was aimed, shows Middleton looking back at the paparazzo and grinning. The paper reported that the Paris Judicial Police department is “poised” to launch a probe into the incident. Charges could result in prison sentences. Even if the gun turns out to be a fake, criminal charges are possible . “If the evidence points to her involvement, she will be prosecuted. Anybody involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public is liable to arrest,” a source said. The French photographer is still weighing whether to file a formal police complaint, the Sun’s royal editor, Duncan Larcombe, confirmed this morning. Middleton was reportedly in Paris to attend a costume birthday party at the Chez Raspoutine as a guest of fashion label owner Arthur de Soultrait Pari. “Pippa is a party girl. She mixes now in very high society and they don’t come very higher than this group of French aristocratic sons,” the source said. The gaffe is a rare misstep for Middleton, who was dubbed “Her Royal Hotness” and became a celebrity gossip magnet after last April’s royal wedding. It was revealed that lawyers for Middleton sent a cease-and-desist letter around to six media agencies that distribute paparazzi photographs worldwide. The letter warned agencies that unless photographers stop following her, Pippa will pursue legal action, which could include an injunction and legal costs. Just prior to the letter being sent, the picture editor for U.K.’s Daily Mail newspaper that 400 Pippa Middleton photos cross his desk every single day. Some, in this case, that she would really prefer did not. [Photo: FameFlynet]
