Randi Rhodes: Senate Dem Hopeful Alvin Greene Facing Obscenity Charges ‘Still Better than Jim DeMint’

While lefties are foaming at the mouth over what Republican Senate candidates like Sharon Angle and Rand Paul have to say, they’re not quite willing to publicly embrace or defend the antics of their own duly elected nominee, South Carolina U.S. Senate Democratic nominee Alvin Greene. That is, they weren’t until now.  On the Aug. 17 broadcast of her radio show , Randi Rhodes went to bat for Greene. According to Rhodes, the indiscretions that brought Greene indictments, in which he allegedly showed obscene photos to a University of South Carolina student and then talked about going to her dorm room, weren’t really that bad. Although it’s not clear if Rhodes was being serious, and it’s difficult to tell, she claimed he was “sharing a wonderful moment of pornography” with this student and bewildered why such an approach warranted criminal charges. “Let me tell you – you know my candidate for Senate in South Carolina is Alvin Greene,” Rhodes said. “I left off where he was supposedly indicted for you know sharing a wonderful moment of pornography with a girl who was over 18 in a college library – in a college library where he had attended college by the way, so he still has his ID card to get on the campus, so. I don’t know what law he broke, but apparently they say he did and they indicted him. And so the local TV went over to his house to see what his comments were about the indictment.” Rhodes then played that infamous clip of Greene howling at a reporter from North Carolina station WCNC. And her conclusion – even with this abnormal behavior from an individual that represents the Democratic Party for the South Carolina, he’s still better than the incumbent, Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. and lamented the idea he has been unable to raise any money. “He’s still better than Jim DeMint,” Rhodes said. “I don’t give a rat’s – that’s why he’s my candidate. He’s still better than Jim DeMint, OK? A guy that’s howling in his house, ‘Nooooooo, goooooooo,’ is still better than Jim DeMint. And that’s why Alvin Greene will always be my candidate for senator from South Carolina. I love this guy. I think – he’s fabulous. I mean, if they can have the nut bags they have, why can’t I have Alvin Greene? And why aren’t we supporting him? I think the guy has raised $1,000 since this whole thing started.” But Rhodes used those peculiar circumstances surrounding Greene, which have likely hindered this hopeful from raising money to level attacks against Koch Industries and NewsCorp for giving money to the Republican Governors Association, chaired by Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. “That’s wrong. You know you got the Koch Industries people give a million dollars Haley Barbour in Mississippi,” Rhodes protested. “[Y]ou know oil and chemicals – the Koch family, Americans For Prosperity, the Koch family, the fake grassroots Tea Party, the Koch family – giving a million dollars to Haley Barbour. Fox News gave a million dollars, News Corp. to Haley Barbour!”

U.S. Boy, 13, Travels to Pitch Peace Plan to Kim Jong Il | TakePart – Inspiration to Action

A 13-year-old American boy intends to share his ideas for helping children and bringing peace to North Korea with that country's leader, Kim Jong Il. Born in South Korea and raised in Mississippi, John Lee is proposing a “Children's Peace Forest” in the dangerous demilitarized zone dividing North and South Korea. The demilitarized zone is one of the most heavily guarded borders in the world. John Lee's mission, he told the Associated Press, is “Above politics, above borders, above conflicts, above idealogy. It's about giving hope to the people and children all over the world.” Wanting to help the environment and people at the same time, Lee's peace forest would be “one in which fruit and chestnut trees would be planted and where children can play.” The teen's parents were a little shocked when they first heard of his desire to travel to North Korea. Having grown up in South Korea, his father is aware of the danger. When he was young, he was told not to associate with people from North Korea. Despite his parents' hesitation, John's persistence and passion convinced them to travel to a country that the U.S. has—at best—strained relations with. Given permission to visit by the North Korean ambassador to the United Nations, Lee and his family are expected to fly Thursday from Beijing to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. If a meeting with North Korean officials doesn't happen, or if he never gives his letter to Kim Jong Il, this brave teen has still done something extraordinary. added by: toyotabedzrock

Bun B Rocks With Live Band At Houston’s House of Blues

The Trill O.G. ‘s hometown album release party set included UGK classics and a Pimp C tribute. By Cynithia Allen Bun B (file) Photo: MTV News HOUSTON — The Trill Bun B put on a memorable show for his fellow Houstonians on the heels of the release of arguably his best album to date, Trill O.G. Bun’s official album party on Wednesday was at the House of Blues and the room was packed. The Texas MC opened up the show with the classic UGK track “Pourin’ Up,” sending the crowd — reciting the track word-for-word — into a frenzy. “Smoking out, pourin’ up/ Keeping lean up in my cup, call my cars got leather and wood/ In my ‘hood, we call it buck,” Bun rapped. The Underground King then reintroduced himself to Houston saying, “What’s up Houston? My name is Bun B, I’m from Port Arthur, Texas, and my only n—-s is UGK, and it’s UGK for life!” Next up, Bun showed a different side of his stage show, performing with a live band the on the song “Trillionaires” and then for the duration of the night. “I feel like the Rolling Stones with this band,” Bun laughed. “I feel like a rock star.” The Port Arthur rapper then went deeper into the UGK vault, performing songs like “Pocket Full of Stones,” (Jay-Z’s) “Big Pimpin’ ” and “Front, Back & Side to Side,” all of which led to an emotional point in Bun’s set. “I feel like Pimp is in the building, man,” Bun said, referring to his fallen UGK partner Pimp C . “Y’all just don’t know, I really miss my brother. I love my brother.” Shortly after paying tribute to Pimp C, Bun performed a snippet of the classic “One Day.” He followed that up with another touching tribute to some of rap’s dearly missed figures, including Tupac Shakur, the Notorious B.I.G. and Houston legends Big Moe, DJ Screw and Big Hawk. Bun then shifted the mood with a choir-style sound, commanding the audience to recite after him. “Now the South is in the house and they can’t do nothing about it,” Bun said, rapping the popular hook from “Draped Up,” the first single from his 2005 album Trill. Bun wrapped the show with “Trillionaire,” off his Trill O.G., captivating the entire venue. What do you think of Bun’s newest album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Bun B

46,000 Square Miles Of Forest Needed To Supply 120 Planned US Wood-Fired Power Plants

Southern pine wood chips. Image credit: USDA Southern Research Station . Research Update, Wood to Energy Biomass burning for electricity still looks to be a political and environmental black hole, presenting more dreadful questions than a tree hugger can shake a blog at. Why, for example, are 120 wood burning power plants being planned in multiple US states? Are banks and managing utilities planning for biomass (a euphemism for wood-fired) just to meet state renewable energy goals? Is it a coincidence that the projects are scheduled for upgrading mos… Read the full story on TreeHugger
