Source: The Washington Post / Getty University Of Virginia Basketball Coach Declines Raise Following NCAA Win Tony Bennett, the University of Virginia men’s basketball coach, led the Cavaliers to their first appearance in the Final Four in 35 years and on to win their first NCAA Championship title in program history this year. But when he was offered a raise for such an amazing accomplishment, Bennett rejected it. “President Ryan and [Athletic Director] Carla were very gracious in what they offered to me as a potential contract, but I have a very good contract,” said Bennett, in an article published on UVA’s website. “I have more than enough, and if there are ways that this can help out the athletic department, the other programs and coaches, by not tying up so much [in men’s basketball], that’s my desire…I have more than I need. I’m blessed beyond what I deserve.” Not only that, the coach also donated $500,000 toward a career-training initiative for current and former UVA men’s basketball players. Bennett went on to say that he consulted with his wife, Laurel, before making the decision to turn the money down. “She’s always said, ‘Is there something we can do that can make a difference?’ That’s been on her heart and mind, and we’ve talked about it a lot,” he revealed. According to an estimate from USA Today, Bennett made approximately $4.15 million last season. This includes his base salary of $525,000, $1.175 million in performance incentives for the team’s 2018-2019 season, $2.5 million in annual “supplemental compensation,” which typically includes compensation for a university’s use of a coach’s likeness or image, and a longevity bonus of $1 million for staying with the team. Though it’s commendable that Bennet turned down a raise, these aforementioned numbers already put him among some of the highest-paid college coaches in the country. According to CNBC, the top 10 highest-paid NCAA basketball coaches all make over $3 million while the highest-paid coach, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, makes around $9 million per year. “Laurel and I are in a great spot, and in the past I’ve had increases in my contract,” said Bennett. “We just feel a great peace about where we’re at, all that’s taken place, and how we feel about this athletic department and this community and this school. Andre 3000 May Be Releasing New Music Soon?

Outkast fans, rejoice! It appears that legendary lyricist and original ATLien Andre 3000 may be finally releasing a new album. In an interview on Friday (Sept. 13) with  Home Grown Radio  on Real 92.3, rhyme-spitter Thurz discussed his upcoming project and how he began working with Dr. Dre in the studio. During the conversation, when asked if there’s been an artist that made him star-struck while making music in the studio, Thurz mentioned Andre 3000—before revealing that Three Stacks has not only been recording music but has enough material to release a full album. “Is he doing music?” asked the show’s co-host DJ HED. “He’s got an album,” Thurz replied. After realizing he may have leaked confidential information, Thurz quickly tries to back peddle stating that he doesn’t know if what he heard was a full album, before admitting the music sounded too great not to be. “He played a lot of ideas that sound like an album to me so I’m just jumping to conclusions,” Thurz continued. “He played a lot of cool ideas…yeah, he’s making music. Despite Thurz’s slip, Andre 3000 along with his rumored collaborator Dr. Dre have yet to confirm or deny rumors. Three Stacks is currently in Philadelphia working on the AMC series, Dispatches From Elsewhere , a 10-episode series is about a “group of people who stumble onto a peculiar puzzle that hides behind everyday life and discover an ever-deepening mystery.” Currently in production, there has been no concrete date for the premiere of the series as of press time. In other Outkast news, the duo was recently trending after on air personality Yes Julz compared Dreamville’s EarthGang to the legends , by seemingly singling out Andre 3000 over Big Boi when she tweeted, “Earthgang is like the OutKast of this generation only with two Andre’s. Killer Mike provided a strong countering argument that was just as vital as the preceding conversation, urging economic independence over political posturing. What sparked Tip and Owens’ tiff was a discussion over the “Make American Great Again” slogan, which prompted the Atlanta rapper and podcaster to ask when exactly was the country great, especially for Black Americans. While some points were made in the heated debate, Killer Mike’s words challenged the opposing panelists and the audience in attendance with grace and ease. Issa Rae Is Reportedly Producing a ‘Set It Off’ Remake

Source: Aaron J. Thornton / Getty I ssa Rae has started the early stages of a remake for the 1996 classic film Set It Off. According to Variety , Issa will be producing the movie. She may even have a role in the film. Set It Off tells the story of four friends who end up robbing a series of different banks amid frustration over their low paying jobs. This was the film that would serve as the launching pad for director F. Gary Gray’s now illustrious career. Set It Off followed the hit movie Friday , which also was very well received at the time of its’ release. The four women who played in Set It Off — Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise — were essentially the first women in film to play a character that exhibited as much depth as male stars in similar films. Issa Rae, who served as co-creator and executive producer for Insecure , has familiarity acting in a role where a group of friends are required to navigate through the hardships of life. Positioned to make her presence felt on the big screen, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys tried to make it happen for Issa. “Issa became a big movie star,” Bloys explained. “We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things.”

From Daily Mail : “A Miami swingers club has been ordered to pay nearly $900,000 after it used photos of models clad in bikinis and lingerie without permission to advertise sex parties and partner-swapping. A jury in Florida federal court agreed Monday that Miami Velvet must pay a total of $892,500 to the 32 professional models whose images were used in the exclusive club’s fliers, social media accounts and on its website, according to the  Miami Herald. Miami Velvet is one of the city’s most famous swingers clubs, and allows group sex to occur on its premises. Several of the models who featured in their ads are well known, including Joanna Krupa, who appeared on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘The Real Housewives of Miami’.” According to the site, Krupa was awarded $65,000 in the case. “…while jurors sided with the models, the money awarded to them was far lower than the collective sum of $5.3million which the models were seeking,” Daily Mail continues. “The lawyer for Miami Velvet acknowledged that his clients were responsible for stealing the photographs but argued that the models were demanding too much money.” While it isn’t the sum they were all looking for, Krupa has a baby on the way and an extra $65K can’t hurt!

Barbara Evans Trashes MTV, Wonders: How is Amber Portwood Still a Teen Mom?!?

Barbara Evans made $400,000 as a part-time cast member on Teen Mom last year. In a new interview with Radar Online, the polarizing mother of Jenelle Evans has plenty to say about both her own daughter and also Amber Portwood, but we felt it necessary open with this revealing tidbit. BARBARA EVANS MADE $400,000 FOR ONE SEASON OF TEEN MOM, YOU GUYS. This revelation aside (unless you still need a moment to digest it…), the crux of Barbara’s interview centered on two people and two facts: Her daughter, Jenelle, who was fired by MTV executives this spring after authorities temporarily took away her kids in the wake of David Eason murdering his family’s dog. Portwood, who remains a cast member on Teen Mom OG despite her July 5 arrest for domestic violence. In recently-released audio, we’ve learned over the past few days that Portwood seemingly beat and threatened boyfriend Andrew Glennon on numerous occasions, prompting Barbara to ask a pertinent question: How is she still a Teen Mom star?!? Moreover… how is Amber still a Teen Mom star while Jenelle is not?!? “Why should Jenelle and I lose our money, and why is MTV supporting Amber when Jenelle and I have done nothing wrong?” Barbara asks Radar . “We were on [the show] for 10 years too, and they stopped filming with us.” Adds Barbara, in total consternation: “Why is this fair? Why were we let go, and she wasn’t?” Barbara, of course, has been relevant on Teen Mom for years because she’s been serving as the guardian of Jenelle’s oldest child, Jace. She and Jenelle have had quite the contentious relationship, often arguing over both this custody arrangement  and Jenelle’s past drug use, among other ways and reasons why she’s largely considered an unfit mothre. Does Barbara have a point here? Yes and no. Jenelle absolutely should have been fired for both lying about Eason attacking her last fall and then for allowing her children to grow up in a home that also houses such a violent bigoy. No one can argue with a straight face that Jenelle deserves the platform and/or salary afforded to her by MTV. Now… should Portwood also be fired? In light of her arrest and the subsequent information that has come out about this long-time star? Probably, but one really has nothing to do with the other. It’s also worth noting that Portwood almost definitely WILL be fired anyway . This, despite the following hilarious defense of Amber by an anonymous Radar source: “Amber didn’t kill a dog. And she has not been convicted of a crime.” Techically, Jenelle didn’t kill a dog, either. But point taken. Still, in the aforementioned audio recording that leaked late last week, Amber allegedly exploded at Andrew… with their toddler in the room. Hiw crime? Waking her up for an appointment at 2 p.m. “If you don’t pick him up you f-cking fat piece of sh-t I’m going to f-cking stab you,” she says. “Get your fat ass up and get him.” Yeah. Cokie Roberts Dies; Legendary Journalist Was 75

Sad news out of the world of journalism today. Multiple outlets have now confirmed the death of iconic pundit and author Cokie Roberts. A family spokesperson says Roberts passed away due to complications from breast cancer. She was 75 years old. Roberts was an indispensable figure in the early days of National Public Radio, joining the upstart network as a political commentator in 1978. From there, she helped NPR grow into the institution that it is today, while simultaneously fostering a multimedia career that made her one of the most trusted names in TV news throughout the 1980s and ’90s. Having just one woman at the helm of a major media outlet was unusual in the 1970s. But Roberts helped to spearhead a female-led revolution at NPR. “[W]e called them the Founding Mothers of NPR, or sometimes we called them the Fallopian Club,” said NPR political correspondent Mara Liasson. “It is such a privilege — you have a front seat to history,” she said. Born into a politically-engaged family, Roberts was the daughter of two former U.S. representatives. Though Roberts was the only member of her immediate family not to run for Congress, her incisive reporting and unparalleled ability to translate complex, wonky issues for an audience of millions enabled her to make a unique contribution to the American political landscape. “You do get used to it, and you shouldn’t, because it is a very special thing to be able to be in the room … when all kinds of special things are happening,” Roberts once remarked in an interview. “I do feel strongly that informing the voters about what’s going on, trying to explain it in ways that people can understand and putting the issues out there is a form of participation.” Throughout her career, Roberts was applauded for her objectivity and her fairness in dealing with Democrats and Republicans alike “She liked people on both sides of the aisle and had friends on both sides of the aisle,” renowned journalist George Will told NPR. “If you don’t like the game of politics, I don’t see how you write about it well,” he added. “She liked the game of politics and she understood that it was a game.” These days the media landscape is both more crowded and more divided than ever before. But one common trait you’ll find among the denizens of that increasingly tumultuous world is a profound respect for the work and influence of Cokie Roberts. Lauren Swanson: Is She Going Back To School To Pursue A Career?!

The Duggars might easily be one of the most fascinating families on reality TV, but similar to the Kardashian family, many wonder what the heck they actually do for a living.  Besides getting hefty paychecks from TLC, some of the Duggars help their dad, Jim Bob, with his commercial real estate business, while others do mission work or hobbies that they try to pass off as “careers”.  As for the women, well, it’s no surprise that due to the family’s strict religion they seek more of the traditional roles as a stay-at-home mom and housewife. *hard eye roll* But there is one Duggar who  (almost)  impressed us by showing a desire for something other than bible studies and cooking three meals a day. Lauren Swanson recently shared some fun facts about herself in a new Instagram post, and besides the fact that the Counting On star can yodel, she caught our attention by opening up about her education. Usually, it’s not shocking to hear someone use their education as a “get to know me” tool, but considering the Duggar family’s home-schooled background and lack of college degrees, it’s a pretty big deal. However, just because Swanson did graduate with a degree doesn’t mean she is putting it to use. But thanks to her IG followers who asked all the hard questions, she got candid about her future career goals .  Unfortunately, it was slightly disappointing.  “I went to college when I was 16 and finished my Associate’s degree in Nursing at 18,” Lauren explained in her post.  Her fans needed more of an explanation. Like, you know, why she isn’t a nurse then?  “I would have to take my boards exam to practice. However, really nursing isn’t my passion,” she admitted.  Lauren explained what she meant in another post after a second fan asked if she has ever worked before and whether or not she would ever go back to work. In response to that comment, she said, “An Associate’s Degree is only two years worth of schooling. I would have to go back for an additional year or two to be a certified nurse.” I’m going to go ahead and guess that this means 1. she hasn’t worked in the past considering she dodged that question and 2. she seems to have no intention of actually going back to school, or ever getting a real career.  No judgment here. It’s important to follow your heart, but I must admit it would be quite refreshing to see one of the Duggar’s care about something other than reproduction.  And God. Don’t @ me.  Lauren and her husband Josiah Duggar found out back in May that they are expecting their first child together , which came as very special news considering the tragic miscarriage these two suffered months prior.  “Recently, we walked through losing a little one through miscarriage, but we’re excited to have another little one on the way now,” Josiah said in a video filmed by TLC. “We’re just extremely grateful for this baby and just going through a lot really shows us how good God is and that miracles do happen.” We’re extremely happy for this couple, and whether or not the mom-to-be decides to continue her education one day, we know she will enjoy this next chapter of her life the most.  View Slideshow: Josiah Duggar & Lauren Swanson Relive Their Whirlwind Courtship on Counting On!
