Justin Bieber Weighs In On Super Bowl Matchup

While he likes Lil Wayne’s ‘Green and Yellow’ Packers anthem, he isn’t rooting for either team. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Justin Bieber Photo: Brian Phares/MTV News During Sunday’s Super Bowl, we know celebrity fans like Snoop Dogg, Diddy and Wiz Khalifa will be rooting for their beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and Lil Wayne will be going hard for the Green Bay Packers . However, there’s one superstar who probably won’t care either way which team goes home with the shiny Vince Lombardi Trophy: Justin Bieber. The pop megastar stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Friday (January 4) to chop it up with Sway, and when asked which team he wants to see rule the gridiron Sunday night, the Canadian native admitted that he doesn’t have an allegiance to the Packers or Steelers. “I’m not, like, a fan of either teams,” Bieber conceded. He was similarly noncommittal about who he thought might dominate the field, shrugging, “I don’t know,” when pressed about he thought would win. The football rivalry hasn’t been entirely out of the teen idol’s orbit. Bieber dished that he was feeling Wayne’s recently released Packers tribute “Green and Yellow.” “Did you hear Lil Wayne’s song … ‘Green and Yellow’?” he asked Sway of the New Orleans MC’s remix of Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow.” “I saw it today and I thought that was pretty cool.” Even with each team heading into the championship face-off with dueling hip-hop anthems, Bieber maintained that the final score card won’t faze him. “Either way, whatever team wins, it’s not my team,” he said. While Bieber may not show his sports-fanatic side during the Super Bowl, the “Baby” singer will be seen by millions during the game. The Biebs has teamed up with metal legend Ozzy Osbourne in a futuristic Best Buy ad that the company said in a statement will “showcase creativity and humor to millions of football and advertising fans throughout the country.” Plus, viewers will get an additional dose of Bieber fever when a promo clip for the star’s upcoming 3-D movie “Never Say Never” airs during a post-Super Bowl episode of “Glee.” Who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl? ‘The Roommate’ Moves Into First Place At Friday Box Office

College-stalker creep-fest snatches up $6.4 million. By Mawuse Ziegbe Minka Kelly in “The Roommate” Photo: Sony Leighton Meester’s dorm-based thriller “The Roommate” received a warm welcome from moviegoers during its debut Friday. The “Gossip Girl” star’s turn as an accommodating turned obsessed roomie who goes all crazy-pants on Minka Kelly’s unsuspecting character raked in $6.4 million when it arrived in theaters. Perhaps part of the film’s draw is the fight scenes — fist-flinging showdowns which Kelly said the actresses worked hard to imbue with a sense of it’s-going-down authenticity. “We worked really hard to make sure it looked like a real girl fight,” she explained. “I Googled ‘girl fights’ on YouTube, and we made sure it was messy and hair was everywhere.” Kelly added that the starlets didn’t bother faking the combat, leaving their Hollywood images behind and lobbing actual punches. “We fought to kill, because unfortunately, when girls fight, they fight to kill, and that was very true and real in our fight. We did our own stunts. We were pretty banged up by the end of it,” she admitted. The James Cameron-produced adventure “Sanctum” debuted in the second place. The flick, which treads familiar Cameron man-against-the-elements territory as it follows a team of explorers who get caught in a labyrinthine underground cave system following a dramatic storm, scored $3.5 million. “No Strings Attached slipped to third place. The casual-sex rom-com, which features Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, scored $2.9 million on Friday. The haul kicks the film’s box-office bank to about $46.3 million. Still riding the boost from its boatloads of Oscar love, “The King’s Speech,” kicked off the weekend in fourth place. The film made $2.3 million, a figure that pumps the project’s total estimated tally to $78 million. Screen legend Anthony Hopkins’ latest flesh-crawling flick, “The Rite,” spent Friday in fifth place, with $1.9 million. The movie’s total estimated gross now stands at around $20 million. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Roommate,” “Sanctum” and “No Strings Attached.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com.

But somewhat suprisingly the award for Best Original Screenplay went to Christopher Nolan for Inception . And although The King’s Speech was not nominated, this small bump in the road will not prevent it from winning every Oscar in sight and then retiring to the same memory hole that The English Patient crawled into in 1996. Betty White Calls SAG Award Win ‘The Biggest Surprise’

‘Hot in Cleveland’ star wins for outstanding female in a comedy series. By Aly Semigran Betty White onstage during the 2011 SAG Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images The Screen Actors Guild most certainly still has nothing but love for Betty White. Last year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient took to the podium once again, this time for outstanding female in a comedy series for her work in “Hot in Cleveland.” A stunned-looking White — who bested the likes of odds-on favorites like Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”) — received a standing ovation from her peers as she made her way to the stage, stopping to give a peck on the cheek to this year’s Lifetime recipient, Ernest Borgnine. Presenter Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) assisted White up the steps to the stage, to which she joked, “They had to get the old broad up those stairs and that’s not easy! “I cannot believe this,” the always-crowd-pleasing White told the audience. The first-time SAG nominee — who has enjoyed a major Hollywood comeback over the past few years thanks to “Cleveland,” a “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig and the 2009 comedy “The Proposal” — said of her win Sunday night, “This [is] the biggest surprise I’ve ever had in this business.” White said she felt very lucky and happy to still be working at the age of 89. When the audience cheered her on, White quickly cracked back, “You didn’t applaud when I turned 40!” She then turned the focus of her speech to her “Cleveland” co-stars Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertinelli and Wendie Malick: “We can’t wait to go to work every day,” she said. White, who wore a charming blue dress and sequined jacket, said of the ensemble cast, “It sounds like a clich

Christian Bale Accepts SAG Award With ‘Fighter’ Alter Ego Dicky Eklund

‘Thank you for living the life and thank you for letting me play you,’ Bale tells Eklund onstage. By Aly Semigran Dicky Eklund and Christian Bale Photo: TBS Christian Bale continued his awards-season domination Sunday night (January 30) at the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, as he emerged victorious in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in “The Fighter.” While heading to the podium to accept a statue has been nothing new for Bale over the past few weeks, things were a little different this time as the real-life Dicky Eklund joined him onstage in an unexpected moment. (“Fighter” star/producer Mark Wahlberg revealed moments later that he encouraged Eklund to go up if Bale won.) After Bale reached the mic to thank voters, Eklund appeared and put his arm around the actor and embraced him with a handshake and a hug. “Dicky! All right!” a surprised Bale said. “This is the original quacker right here!” Eklund, wearing a black tux and a blue bow tie, congratulated Bale and told him, “Good job, Christian.” Bale reciprocated the feelings and told Eklund, “Thank you, mate. Thank you for living the life and thank you for letting me play you.” To which Eklund, referring to a song by the Heavy that is featured in “The Fighter,” asked, “How you like me now?” Before Eklund exited the stage, Bale responded with a smile, “I like you now.” The actor continued with his speech by thanking his fellow actors, particularly those who worked with him on the film. “I love acting, I love what we do,” Bale said of his profession “It’s so bloody silly at times, isn’t it? It’s like playing dress-up, and other times it is so meaningful. I just enjoy that so much. We get to walk in other people’s shoes,” adding, “Life without empathy is no fun at all.” Bale went on talk to about how young actors often approach him to ask how he broke into the business, to which he told the SAG audience, “I never have any answers whatsoever.” But he said what keeps him motivated as an actor in such a tough industry is, “I find people endlessly fascinating. As long as you can do that, each project seems like something new.” Still, he noted that any actor should be so lucky to work with his “Fighter” co-star. “Bumping into Mark Wahlberg ain’t bad.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
