Melania Trump RNC Speech: Ganked from Michelle Obama?

The Republican National Convention kicked off from Cleveland on Monday night. And it didn't take long for this Donald Trump lovefest to generate its first scandal. From Willie Robertson or Scott Baio ? Not really, even though the #NeverTrump crowd likely was not a fan of anything these “celebrities” had to say. Rather, the first scandal of the week came courtesy of The Donald's wife, Melania Trump. “From a young age my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Melania said on stage. “They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.” Sounds great and inspiring, right? The sort of thing a First Lady-to-be would say in such a circumstance? Melania went on to add: “That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son, and we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. “Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.” Again, good stuff. But plagiarized stuff? Critics were quick to note similarities between Trump's speech here and Michelle Obama's 2008 speech at the Democratic National Convention. Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them , Obama said eight years ago. She continued at the time: And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children – and all children in this nation – to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them. Speaking to Matt Lauer on MSNBC prior to the event , Melania said of her upcoming speech: “I read once over it and that's all. Because I wrote it with as little help as possible. I'm excited.” This is what Donald Trump said about his wife's speech on Monday night and what he said in 2008 about that of Michelle Obama: Was Melania subconsciously influenced by Obama? Did she outright gank her material? Listen and watch the speech below and decide for yourself.

Anderson Cooper Breaks Down on Air: WATCH…

Anderson Cooper opened his CNN program on Monday night by reporting live from Orlando. He also did so while fighting back tears as he read through the names of everyone who died at the hands of Omar Mateen on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Mateen, of course, is a name we wish we did not know. The 29-year old opened fire with an assault weapon inside of a gay nightclub called Pure on Saturday, taking multiple people hostage for several hours and eventually being killed by police in a shootout. But not before he murdered 50 innocent patrons and aligned himself with ISIS on a 911 call during his attack. He was responsible for the largest number of deaths in one shooting in U.S. history. On Monday afternoon, a rundown of all 49 victims was released to the public. “They’re more than a list of names. They were people who loved, and were loved. They were people who had families and friends and dreams,” Cooper said on air, broadcasting live from near Pulse. “And the truth is, we don’t know much about some of them. We want you to hear their names and a little bit about who they were.” The anchor, clearly deeply affected by the tragedy, started to falter while relating details about Edward Sotomayor Jr., a 34-year-old travel agent. The network did not have any background information on this victim. “We think it’s important that you hear their names,” Cooper said, crying. Cooper, of course, is gay himself. Not that one has to be gay in order to be crushed by this tragedy; one need only be human. But it's not hard to see why those in the gay community would take it even harder than others. Watch Cooper's moving tribute below:

Conan O’Brien Pushes to End Assault Rifle Sales

Conan O'Brien opened his talk show on Monday night by saying he is not a “pundit or an expert.” But the comedian is a father of two, and it was as a father of two that he spoke to his viewers in his monologue. Eschewing jokes for a change, O'Brien felt a need to address the Orlando shooting that took the lives of nearly 50 people over the weekend. It took place at a gay nightclub called Pure and the atrocity was committed by a 29-year old named Omar Mateen. Someone on the FBI's watch list after the organization interviewed him in 2013 and 2014 for possible terrorist ties, Mateen was still permitted to legally purchase the guns he used in this heinous attack. This has become a point of contention and anger for those who believe America needs stricter gun control laws, especially when it comes to automatic weapons. And this is the side on to which Conan falls. O'Brien says in the following video: “At a time when we think we've heard the worst stories about senseless violence in our country, that it couldn't possibly get worse, the news out of Orlando yesterday is still impossible to fathom.” “That so many people can lose their lives so quickly because of one person's demented rage will never make sense and God help us if it does.” Mateen – who was shot dead by police after a hostage situation and standoff – used an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle to commit these murders. That’s the same high-velocity weapon used in the mass shootings in San Bernardino, California, last December; and in Newtown, Connecticut; and Aurora, Colorado. Conan told the audience, who applauded in response: “I am the father of two, I like to believe I have a shred of common sense and I simply do not understand why anybody in this country is allowed to purchase and own a semi-automatic assault rifle.” “These are weapons of war and they have no place in civilian life.” Added O'Brien: “I have tried to understand this issue from every side and it all comes down to this: “Nobody I know or have ever met in my entire life should have access to a weapon that can kill so many people so quickly.” Watch his speech below and decide: Do you agree? Disagree? Should a late-night host use his platform in this manner… or just stick to jokes?
