First, Obama got fly at the Apollo theater. Now, his shoe game is on point. One of the most popular kicks in the last few years, the Spizikes, have been all over the country. The shoe is a combination of the three Jordans that Spike Lee promoted as Mars Blackmon in the 80s. And they’re fire. Apparently, Obama agrees and he had Spike Lee send him over this custom version of the kicks in super snazzy bordeaux. It even came with a Presidential seal! Damn, Obama’s having a good day. Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side) is a delightful short stop-motion film co-directed by Spike Jonze and french filmmaker Simon Cahn. The film was “hand made with love” by quirky handbags designer Olympia Le-Tan (it’s her lovely Minaudiere Classique handbags that come to life in the film). Amid shooting setbacks (the crew is reportedly still working one month before the original release date of November 23), Dimension Films has given the sequel to the skinstant classic Piranha 3D (2010) the kiss of cinematic death: they’ve pushed the release of Piranha 3DD back to the very vague “sometime in 2012”. Piranha 3D made a cool $83 million worldwide (well over its $25 million budget), so we expect Piranha 3DD will come out eventually, though the new release date means (t)it may be direct-to-DVD. The wait is over! Jay-Z and Kanye West (The Throne) premiered the Spike Jonze directed “Otis” music video on MTV tonight. On location in L.A., Jay and Ye spits bars in front of the American flag with fireworks in the background. The two turned a maybach into stunt car and goes on a joy ride with what looks like catholic school girls in the back. Watch The Throne album in stores and available on itunes now. Tyler Perry visited The Monique Show and voiced how he felt about Spike Lee’s “attack” against him . Tyler Perry makes some good points about the state of the black race in general and in film, but he was wrong when he said he never saw Italians protest HBO’s award-winning mobster drama “The Sopranos.” There were lots of protests from different Italian groups who thought “The Sopranos” upheld Italian stereotypes. Tyler said of Spike Lee: “Instead of taking shots, tearing each other down how about you give me a hand brother and tell me what I need to know and maybe I can share some things with you too.” Mo’Nique invited Spike Lee on her show to end the rivalry between the two filmmakers. The war of words between Spike Lee and Tyler Perry continues as Perry recently said at a press conference that “Spike can go straight to hell!” Lee has been a very vocal critic of Perry and his films. “I’m so sick of hearing about damn Spike Lee,” Perry said during a press conference . “Spike can go straight to hell! You can print that. I am sick of him talking about me, I am sick of him saying, ‘this is a coon, this is a buffoon.’ I am sick of him talking about black people going to see movies. This is what he said: ‘you vote by what you see,’ as if black people don’t know what they want to see.” “Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic endeavors, but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery,” Lee said in 2009. “I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we can do better. … I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s ‘Meet the Browns’ and ‘House of Payne’), and I am scratching my head.
