Relax, 24 million monsters. It’s just a joke. Despite a picture posted to photographer friend Terry Richardson’s blog with the caption “showing off her new engagement ring,” Lady Gaga is single. One can see how confusion might arise, but rest assured, our girl is really not engaged to recent ex Taylor Kinney or anyone else for that matter. Richardson, whose job is apparently to produce viral content like Lindsay Lohan pics or the Kate Upton “Cat Daddy” video, posted the photo on Sunday. The two have been collaborating on a new book of Lady Gaga photos, which is how this image – of her showing off a massive diamond ring – came to be. Gaga and Kinney ( The Vampire Diaries, Chicago Fire ) had been dating for the better part of a year, but reportedly broke up for good a few weeks back. Friday, Richardson also posted a photo of Gaga wearing nothing but black tape on one of her nipples. Check it out in our gallery of Lady Gaga pics !
Controversy over Mark Zuckerberg’s hoodie abated Friday as he turned investors’ attention to more important matters at a presentation in Palo Alto, Calif. Chief among them? Improving Facebook’s mobile application . About 200 investors showed up at an IPO presentation to quiz Zuckerberg about generating revenue from mobile users, crucial for long-term fiscal growth. Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO, said overall advertising is gaining steam, with most marketers increasing their spending with Facebook. The executives, who appeared on stage alongside CFO David Ebersman, highlighted social ads as an important tool for Facebook to tackle mobile challenges. The ads, incorporating information about Facebook users’ friends who “like” certain products, are better-suited to the smaller screens of smartphones. More than half of Facebook’s users currently use it from phones. As Facebook collects more information about its users, such as location data, Facebook will be able to offer more relevant mobile ads, executives said. Facebook aims to raise about $10.6 billion via its initial public offering, dwarfing Google’s recent IPO and giving it a market value around $96 billion. The Facebook IPO marks a watershed moment for the new generation of startups that are challenging established players such as Google and Yahoo. Consumers’ online time – and advertising dollars – are very much the future. With 900 million users, Facebook is the world’s dominant social network. Zuckerberg, the 28-year-old CEO, was Time Magazine ‘s Person of the Year in 2010 and was depicted in the fictionalized 2010 movie The Social Network .
In the mid-90s, author Toni Morrison famously referred to Bill Clinton as “the first black President” based on his empathy, efforts to foster broad socioeconomic equality and commitment to issues important to African-American community at large. Newsweek plays off this quote in its new cover story on President Barack Obama. Following Obama’s public support of same-sex marriage , he has been dubbed The First Gay President … in a manner of speaking of course: While Obama’s statement was groundbreaking and bold, will his “coming out” on behalf of gay marriage even make a different in November’s election? “If you were going to cast your vote based on a candidate’s position regarding same-sex marriage, you were already going to vote for Obama [or] Romney based on that,” Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank said on ABC’s This Week . “I literally don’t think anybody’s vote was changed one way or the other.” In any case, Obama’s end to “evolving” on gay marriage will continue to generate critical comment, and not all of it positive, even from the left. “His embrace of gay marriage was not a profile in courage,” New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote, taking issue with adulation shown toward the President (such as on the cover above) more than anything. “Even when he does the right thing, by the time he does it and in the way he does it, he drains away excitement and robs himself of the admiration he would otherwise be due … Why doesn’t he just do the exhilarating thing immediately?” “Why does he have to be dragged kicking and screaming to principle?” With Obama’s face pictured looking skyward and a rainbow-colored halo above his head, the controversial cover leads to a story written by openly gay writer Andrew Sullivan, a self-described political conservative. The boundary-pushing May 21 Newsweek issue featuring Obama, available Monday, comes after Time magazine’s breastfeeding cover last week, which featured an attractive 26-year-old mother nursing her toddler son. The cover sparked strong reactions across the world last week and led a Newsweek spokesperson to tell the New York Post that the magazine’s editor Tina Brown had viewed the cover as a challenge. “When Tina saw the Time cover, she laughed and said, ‘Let the games begin,'” the spokesperson told the Post . Game on.
Recently, a picture of the New England area of the US photographed by astronauts on the ISS made the rounds. It was lovely, and inspired Rémi Boucher and Guillaume Poulin, two scientific communicators at an astronomy center in southern Quebec called the ASTROLab , to see if more pictures were taken. At The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth they found hundreds of photos taken from that pass,… Broadcasting platform : Vimeo Source : DiscoverMagazine Discovery Date : 06/02/2012 18:54 Number of articles : 2
Once upon a time, Bryan Fischer believed that trying to get someone fired from their job was a hate crime . But that is apparently only the case if the person getting fired is a Christian and the people urging the firing are gay because Fischer and the American Family Association are now trying to get JC Penney to fire Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson solely because she is gay. Reality star won’t appear in new Super Bowl ad but Skechers CEO says claims that Kardashian was replaced are ‘misleading.’ By James Montgomery Kim Kardashian Photo: Marianna Massey/ WireImage Kim Kardashian won’t be featured in Skechers’ upcoming Super Bowl ad — that honor goes to a French bulldog — but that doesn’t mean she’s been replaced. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the shoe manufacturer had, uh, booted Kardashian as their spokesperson — she appeared in a steamy spot for Skechers’ Shape-Up shoe that aired during Super Bowl XLV — a move their president claimed was meant “to establish Skechers as more than a lifestyle company.” Of course, those reports also spawned a series of headlines suggesting Kardashian had been replaced in favor of the French bulldog (with some speculating her brief marriage to Kris Humphries was behind the decision). But according to Skechers’ CEO Robert Greenberg, that simply wasn’t the case. Instead (and less salaciously), the new commercial had everything to do with Kardashian’s contract with the company coming to an end. “Kim Kardashian has had a tremendously positive effect on the Skechers brand … she played a big part in Skechers moving up last year from 388 to 99 among companies with the highest brand trust,” Greenberg said in a statement . “While Kim’s contract with Skechers simply came to an end at the end of last year, we continue to have a great relationship with her … to say that she was ‘dropped’ or ‘replaced’ is misleading and untrue. Skechers has enjoyed and continues to enjoy the relationship with Kim, and in fact we continue to discuss ways that we may work together in the future.” Instead of Kardashian, this year’s Skechers Super Bowl spot features a French bulldog who dons the company’s new GOrun sneakers and races a pack of greyhounds. Strangely, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban reportedly also makes a cameo. What do you think of Skechers bumping Kim K. from their Super Bowl spot? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!

Singer, whose Talk That Talk is out this week, offended audience with what she wore on Britain’s ‘X Factor.’ By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna performs on X Factor UK Photo: itv Rihanna seems to be making trouble everywhere she goes these days. On Sunday night, she accepted her American Music Award for Favorite R&B/Soul Album remotely from the U.K., where she was performing on “The X Factor.” And part of her ensemble for that performance had heads turning. Donning a demure plaid dress and clunky punk shoes with writing scrawled all over them, one phrase on the footwear had some people up in arms. According to The Telegraph , the words “F— Off” were written on Ri’s shoes. While the offensive statement may have left audiences a bit shocked, a spokesperson for the show played down the controversy. “There were no close-up shots of Rihanna’s shoes,” the spokesperson said. “We believe the performance was suitable.” Rihanna caused a similar stir last December when she appeared on the British reality program scantily clad in a provocative outfit. It’s not just the Brits that Rihanna is making blush. According to Pressparty , Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video has been banned from being played before 10 p.m. in France. The Officials at the Supreme Audiovisual Council of France have deemed the video, which includes drug use, sex and domestic violence, inappropriate for viewing before that hour. The video’s director, Melina Matsoukas, recently defended the video’s imagery when she spoke to MTV News. “We love, obviously, to do provocative imagery … we always try to definitely push the limits,” Matsoukas said. “I think because, in the end, it’s not really at all about domestic violence. It’s really just about it being toxic, and they’re on this drug trip and that definitely plays a part, but I think it’s also about being triumphant over those weaknesses, and she leaves him. It’s not trying to glorify that type of relationship. The bad parts of it, that’s what you don’t want. In the end, her leaving, it represents her getting that out of her life. The drugs and the addiction and the toxic — that’s what brings her downfall and brings a lot of harm.” Rihanna’s video for “S&M,” also directed by Matsoukas, was banned for using provocative imagery when it was released back in February. Rihanna drops her new album, Talk That Talk , a grinding party record full of provocative lyrics, this week. “We Found Love” is the first single off the record. Related Artists Rihanna
Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris is a known football enthusiast. Still, this may not be the best outlet for her, we’re thinking. The 13-year-old is being recruited to be the face of an organization that swears it’s helping break down barriers for women in the sport … which sounds awesome. The only problem is it’s the Lingerie Football League. When Paris Jackson became the first female at her private school to join the flag football team earlier this month, the LFL took notice … and had no shame. They fired off a letter to the Michael Jackson Estate in the hopes that Paris would be the spokesperson for the league’s “youth program.” Don’t hold your breath. LFL Commissioner (yes, there is such a position) Mitchell S. Mortaza laments the “lack of options for competitive female football” and looks to her for help. Mortaza says the league will “be introducing youth clinics across the country to introduce the game of football to young ladies at an earlier stage in life.” “We would like to invite Paris to become the spokesperson for the LFL’s youth program and perhaps train for a career in the LFL when she reaches age 18.” It’s true that girls miss out on football, but don’t ask us how Paris promoting a league where women prance around in lingerie is a good way to mentor kids. Britney Spears , on the other hand, would be a GREAT fit.
