Victor Ortiz: Boxing Champion Arrested for Rape

Victor Ortiz is a professional boxer and has also taken on acting roles and appeared on Dancing With The Stars . On Tuesday, September 25, Ortiz was arrested on rape charges following a months-long police investigation. He faces three charges of felony sexual assault. In the afternoon on Tuesday, Ortiz surrendered to authorities at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department East Valley Station. Ortiz, a 31-year-old boxer and resident of Tarzana, Los Angeles, was booked for forcible rape, forcibal oral copulation, and forcible digital penetration. Bail has been set at $100,000. This is not Ortiz’s first run-in with the law, as he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon in 2015 and ultimately agreed to a plea of battery and was placed on probation. These charges sound more serious than his verbal-altercation-turned-physical at a Kenny Chesney concert, however. This is also more serious than his DUI. The charges stem from March 19 of 2018, when an adult female victim contacted the Oxnard Police Department to report that she had been sexually assaulted within a residence. The Oxnard Family Protection Unit — think SVU, basically — took charge of the investigation. After several months, determined that they had enough to present to the Venture County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors agreed, and a warrant was issued for Ortiz. His victim has not been identified, of course, beyond the fact that she is an adult woman. As we mentioned, Victor Ortiz is a professional heavyweight boxer. In 2011, he held the WBC welterweight title. Within the ring, he was known for his aggressive style and for being a crowd-pleaser, and was ranked one of the best boxers in the world. He has also appeared on the large and small screen, notably as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars . His film career has included roles in The Expendables 3 , Southpaw , and Once Upon a Time in Venice . He also appeared on Hawaii Five-O in 2016, portraying a boxer. And he made a cameo on Showtime’s Ray Donovan . Ortiz is a native of Garden City, Kansas. He took up boxing as a child. His mother abandoned their family, and his father took up drinking and became violent. Victor Ortiz has a son with Deborah Mather. It is currently unclear if the two of them are still in a relationship, as the last report of them dating was in February of 2018. However, she continues to appear on Ortiz’s social media, though usually in the context of their very young son, Victor Royal Ortiz. Mather’s Instagram is set to private. Her profile tagline reads “Then I saw there was a way to Hell, even through the gates of Heaven.” That is … quite the quote. On September 23, it was announced that Ortiz would be fighting former world title challenger John Molina Jr. in Ontario, California. The fight was to take place on September 30. In light of Ortiz’s arrest on September 25, it is unclear if this fight is to take, even if Ortiz is released on bail. This is a troubling story, and we expect that more upsetting details will come to light as Ortiz’s sexual assault case moves forward. View Slideshow: Hollywood Sex Scandal: Who’s Been Caught? He was the Chicago Bulls’ No. 1 draft pick in 1999 and over the course of his career suited up for teams that included the LA Clippers, the Dallas Mavericks, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Brand is excited about leading his former team and hopes to transform the Sixers into a leading contender in the Eastern Conference through his guidance. “The 76ers are on the cusp of something very special and the next 12 months are really important. I think that’s why I was the leading candidate, to bring stability to the organization and this group that I know really well,” he said in a statement. The Sixers are excited about bringing Brand to the front office. Josh Harris , owner of the Sixers, says that Brand will be influential in bringing in new talent. “I think we’re at a new point in our team’s development into hopefully an NBA championship,” he said. “We need to be attracting talent here. Certainly, Elton’s image and who he is as a person were real positives. But leadership and managerial skills and the things you’ve got to do in the front office that aren’t just about image, he’s got those, too. But certainly, that was a huge positive.” According to Black Enterprise , Brand’s appointment comes shortly after Maurice A. Stinnett made history as the first Black man to become a diversity and inclusion vice president for an NBA team. Bye, ESPN! Jemele Hill Has A New Job And It’s With LeBron James

Go here to read the rest:

Y ou can’t stop  Jemele Hill   from winning. She made history at ESPN with  Michael Smith  as the first all-Black anchor team on “SportsCenter” in February 2017. However, now that she has parted ways with shady ESPN, she already landed a new job with — you can’t get any better than this — LeBron James . See Also: President Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Could Lead To More Voter Suppression The Hollywood Reporter reports, Jemele Hill “will narrate LeBron James’ basketball documentary  Shut Up and Dribble , which bows in November on Showtime. The three-part series is directed by Gotham Chopra (who also helmed the Tom Brady doc  Tom vs. Time ).” This is a huge win for Hill who was not supported by ESPN when she called out Trump’s racism. Hill told THR, “I think LeBron, like a lot of people, has been very frustrated by the behavior of this administration. [Black Americans] feel very insulted and vulnerable within this time because of who’s in charge.” The doc will also include interviews with   Charles Barkley , Jay Z , Justin Timberlake and more. Again, Hill can’t stop winning. Reportedly, when she left ESPN she still had 2 years left in her contract, which ESPN reportedly bought out. She allegedly walked away with “ millions of dollars .” This is only the beginning of winning for Jemele Hill and we can only imagine Shut Up and Dribble is going to be great. The title was inspired by the hateful Laura Ingraham telling NBA players like James to “shut up and dribble.” This is what you call turning negative energy into a positive. “Girl We Been Knew”: Amandla Stenberg Tells Seventeen Magazine She Chuckled At People’s Reactions To Her Queer News

Silja Magg Amandla Stenberg Talks To Seventeen Magazine About Body Confidence, Sexuality And Being Natural Congratulations to Amandla Stenberg , who is gracing the cover of Seventeen Magazine’s October/November Issue. Amandla Stenberg has been called a lot of things by a lot of people. She’s an “intersectional feminist superstar,” “the voice of a generation,” and whom Beyoncé wants Blue Ivy to be like when she grows up. Amandla, who turns 20 in October, is all of those things—as well as an actress (in films like The Hunger Games ; Everything, Everything ; and The Darkest Minds ); a fighter for social justice (her video “Don’t Cash Crop My Cornrows” started a Tumblr storm about cultural appropriation in 2015); and an important voice in the conversation about gender and sexuality. Soon, she’ll take on her most meaningful—and controversial—role yet: gutsy Starr Carter in The Hate U Give (out October 19), based on Angie Thomas’s best-selling novel about a teen who witnesses her friend get shot by a police officer. Check out some dope quotes from Amandla about her thoughts on body confidence, sexuality and more when you continue. On body confidence: “Being in entertainment can be hard—if you were to meet actors in real life, you’d probably be surprised at how tiny they are. I’m not a hella-skinny person—I’m petite, but I’m low-key slim-thick—and I’ve had people put pressure on me to lose weight or oversexualize my body because it doesn’t look infantile. People often say my boobs are too big. There have been several moments when I was filming a scene and someone came over with a small sports bra and said, “Put this on real quick. Your boobs look too big on camera.” You’re conceived of as too much if you have, like, thighs. It’s ridiculous! I try to only work in spaces now that make me feel comfortable. It’s challenging, but I’d rather be healthy and happy and love my body.” On self-discovery and coming out twice: “Gender and sexuality are so fluid—it’s okay to change your mind a million times and figure out what works for you. It’s okay to take your time… I’d been out as bisexual, and people have known I’m queer for a long time. I saw some comments that made me chuckle, like, “Girl, we been knew!” But I wanted to make it very clear that I have romantic love for women. I realized I had so much internalized homophobia and so much discomfort around hooking up with dudes. I always knew that when I hooked up with girls, it was the happiest I’d been in any sexual dynamic. I love that we have this umbrella term of queer, and so many things can exist underneath it, but I realized that part of my journey was hiding underneath that umbrella, because I was scared—on a personal and a public level—to confront what I was. It was easier for me to say “I’m bi” or “I’m pan” as I was figuring it out. But I came to a place where I felt really proud of my sexuality, and I decided I wanted to share that pride.” Don’t you think this is something many women who identify as something other than heterosexual struggle with? There’s gotta be a lot of pressure to be bi or something more acceptable right. Welp: Uber Driver Sues NLF’er Jameis Winston For Being An Admittedly Pervy Passenger Back In 2016

(Photo by Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Uber Driver Wants Jameis Winston To Pay Up For Being A Pervy Passenger The female Uber driver who accused Buccaneers quarterback  Jameis Winston  of groping her during a ride in her vehicle, has filed a lawsuit against. According to ESPN , the unnamed driver is asking for $75,000 for damages in the nature of emotional distress and future therapy expenses.” The groping incident occured back in 2016, which ultimately led to his three-game suspension by the NFL. According to reports, the lawsuit alleges that while waiting in the drive-thru line of Los Betos restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona, in March 2016, Winston was “belligerent” and “leaned toward [her] and placed his fingers between her legs and pressed them firmly against her vagina over her yoga pants.” She looked at Winston, down at his hand, and responded, “What’s up with that?” before Winston withdrew his hand, the suit says. She then immediately tried calling her boyfriend before sending him a series of text messages. In one of the texts, she wrote, “I just got semi-molested by the Tampa Bay Buc QB,” and that she was “pretty shaken up …” The woman did not file a report with police but had discussed it with her boyfriend. She did report the incident to Uber the next day. Uber contacted Winston, who told the ride-share service that there were other passengers in the vehicle that night. In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, the plaintiff, identified as “Kate P.”, states that despite Winston’s three-game suspension, he “issued a hollow apology” in July and “has a history of sexually hostile behavior and appears to be no closer to understanding the impact of his conduct.” Yikes! An eight-month NFL investigation concluded that Winston engaged in detrimental conduct that night by “touching the driver in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent and that disciplinary action was necessary and appropriate.” Sounds pretty straightforward to us! Time for Winston to pay up for being pervy!

Michael Jordan Donates $2 Million To Hurricane Florence Relief

After Hurricane Florence devastated the Carolinas over the weekend, NBA legend Michael Jordan explained why he felt it was necessary for him to donate $2 million to relief efforts. “You gotta take care of home,” he told the Charlotte Observer . “You don’t want to see any of that anywhere, but when it’s home, that’s tough to swallow.” Jordan, who grew up in Wilmington, NC as a child before moving on to play at North Carolina and later the NBA said that the heavy rains in both North and South Carolina brought back some memories. Kept thinking about all those places I grew up going to,” Jordan said. “And the deaths – it was so sad about the babies. You don’t want to see any of that anywhere, but when it’s home, that’s tough to swallow.” Jordan’s donation comes in two parts, first a donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross and a donation of $1 million to the Foundation for the Carolinas Florence Response Fund. The Charlotte Hornets, the team where Jordan is the owner have also launched relief efforts and are set to be packing thousands of disaster food boxes for those affected. Jordan hopes that the dual donation will show both the short and long-term impact that Hurricane Florence will have on the region. “People need to understand this will not be a week-long process. This is going to have a huge disruption on people’s lives – not for 10 days, but for years,” Jordan said. Chloe Kim Olympic Ass of the Day

Chloe Kim like Bruce Jenner…is an American Olympic hero… Like all Olympic Hero’s before her, she’s out there in her bikini, showing off her strong Asian ass and she’s 18 now, so it’s less perverted to jerk off to it than it was when she won all those Snowboarding awards…. She’s a gymnast who never was, because her family raised her in Socal and she had to be cool by choosing board sports…and with most snowboarding chicks, she doesn’t really have the hottest of bodies, hardly the Asian ass you’d want…a little too strong, it keeps her competitive…but you’re all patriots here so do it all for your country…. At least she’s not fat…like the rest of your country…so we should all encourage one of the last generations of not morbidly obese like the 75% of the rest of the country who watch her win. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad Empowers Youth Through Tech Education

D iversity numbers in the tech industry remain stagnant. Despite African-Americans being one of the top demographic groups for digital consumption, when it comes to forging career paths in the tech industry there isn’t a level playing field. According to a study released by the National Urban League , at major social media and tech companies, less than five percent of employees are Black. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad —a free Harlem-based tech and entrepreneurship program—is aiming to change the status quo by empowering opportunity youth through STEM education. The program—which is an initiative led by the Harlem Business Alliance —was created as an avenue to connect young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 to the New York City tech industry. Over the course of 15-weeks, program participants are provided with one-on-one training, courses on how to code, field trips to the headquarters of tech giants in the New York City area, and ongoing mentorship. Disrupt Harlem Code Squad also puts the emphasis on entrepreneurship; empowering students to design their own mobile and web apps. After completing the program, some of the participants are aligned with internships in the tech industry and others continue to expand their skills at a full-stack developer coding program led by The Knowledge House. As New York City’s tech landscape continues to expand and there are talks about it transforming into the next Silicon Valley, its imperative for opportunity youth from inner-city communities to be able to compete in this industry. Furthermore, tapping into this talent pool can be a solution to closing tech’s diversity gap. “Through our Disrupt Harlem Code Squad initiative, HBA aims to level the playing field for Harlem’s opportunity youth when it comes to entering the tech industry. African-Americans represent less than 2 percent of employees at major tech companies,” Regina Smith , Executive Director, Harlem Business Alliance, told NewsOne. “Shifting the narrative starts with exposure. One of the catalysts for change is introducing STEM education programs to all inner-city youth.  We educate young adults about coding, career pathways in tech as well as basic business fundamentals. We realize our youth possesses tremendous untapped potential and it is our responsibility to invest in the next generation of leaders.” Disrupt Harlem Code Squad has proven to be effective and impactful. Some of the students have received job offers from major tech companies and others have launched their own businesses. Many of the program participants pay it forward by serving as mentors. “Disrupt Harlem Code Squad targets a vulnerable subset of our community—young adults who are under or unemployed—and gives them the tools to make a positive change in their lives.  Tech is a growing industry, but members of our community weren’t being prepared to have those careers,” said Disrupt Harlem Code Squad Program Director Philomena Boateng . “We’ve made our program free because we recognize they don’t have the resources that other “non-traditional” students do to pay the high cost of programs like these. We believe that by educating our youth on a new career path, we’re also giving them the means to improve their economic situation on a long-term basis. We put real action behind inclusivity efforts in tech that some companies only talk about.” As the program gears up for its next cohort, it aims to continue to make an impact in the lives of youth. The program is currently accepting applications and the deadline is September 16. Learn more about Disrupt Harlem Code Squad . Tennis Star Naomi Osaka Slated To Ink Adidas’ Biggest Deal With A Woman Athlete

T ennis star Naomi Osaka is winning both on and off the court. After defeating Serena Williams , the 20-year-old Haitian and Japanese athlete has become a household name. According to Business Insider , Osaka is slated to make history by inking the biggest deal that Adidas has ever offered to a woman athlete. Naomi Osaka is reportedly set to sign the largest-ever Adidas deal for a female athlete. https://t.co/5wiKBD6LhE — SB Nation (@SBNation) September 12, 2018 Osaka is reportedly working on a deal with the sports brand that is worth $8.5 million per year, the news outlet writes. The deal could possibly make her one of the highest-paid women in the realm of sports; out-earning her tennis opponents. Osaka currently has a contract with Adidas for six figures which is ending this year. It seems as if the Adidas deal is just the beginning of more endorsements to come for Osaka. She recently signed a three-year endorsement deal with Nissan to be one of their brand ambassadors. “With a combination of grit and grace, Naomi Osaka is not afraid to take on the best tennis players of our time, and win,” Asako Hoshino , Senior Vice President, Nissan, told the news outlet . Osaka is humbled to represent the brand and says she was drawn to Nissan because of its “strong Japanese DNA and global competitive spirit.” Osaka’s win over Serena Williams at the 2018 US Open garnered a lot of attention after Williams was hit with a slew of unjust code violations for coaching, breaking a racket, and her exchange of words with umpire Carlos Ramos . Despite the drama surrounding the match, the tennis veteran displayed sportsmanship by giving her opponent encouraging words as the crowd booed the outcome. “She said that she was proud of me and that I should know that the crowd wasn’t booing at me. So, I was really happy that she said that,” said Osaka during a recent appearance on The Ellen Show .
