Media Seek Silver Linings in Economic Storm Clouds Despite Bad News about Jobs, GDP and Other Sectors

Recently, the economic news has been troubling. The latest jobs report showed another month with net losses, GDP was revised downward to a ” tepid ” 1.6 percent for the second quarter and others sectors like housing have still shown signs of weakness . Obama’s “recovery summer” came to a close with 14.9 million Americans unemployed and many worried about the overall economy. Some politicians are worried about being unemployed come November if the economy continues to crawl. The administration wanted the summer of 2010 to support Obama’s claims that recovery was underway thanks to the stimulus package and numerous bailouts. So Obama and other administration officials announced a tour of infrastructure groundbreakings around the country – projects paid for by the $787 billion “recovery act.” But that costly legislation and other stimulus attempts have failed, even by the Obama administration’s own standards according to nearly 100 economists. US News & World Report found that almost 100 ” prominent ” economists wrote a letter to the president in June 2010 telling Obama the stimulus failed and federal spending must be reined in. Yet the mainstream media have gone out of its way to bolster the stimulus , crediting it with jobs ( saved or created ) in towns across the country. Rarely have journalists taken Obama to task for his grandiose and empty promises about job growth as the result of the stimulus. And as bad news about jobs and other economic indicators has stacked up against the White House, journalists have continued to hunt for silver linings in storm clouds. On Sept. 3, “American Morning” found the ” bright spot ” in August’s loss of 54,000 jobs. Ali Velshi called the report a “glass one-quarter full,” but his two guests that morning were upbeat. Speaking of the 9.6 percent unemployment rate, Shawn Tully of Fortune magazine told viewers “This is actually not such bad news.”   The news media began looking for good economic news early in the Obama presidency, desperate to credit him for turning things around. Newsweek even surprised Obama by declaring the recession over in its Aug. 3, 2009 issue. Broadcast networks also jumped on the bandwagon interviewing economists like Lakshman Achuthan who told CBS the economic indicators “are emphatic that recovery begins this summer [2009].” Although GDP showed gains beginning in the third quarter of 2009, the April 13, 2010 Wall Street Journal reported that the economists who decide when recessions begin and end ” stopped short of calling an end to the downturn that started in December 2007 .” Summer of Recovery that Wasn’t On June 17, 2010, the White House launched its ” Recovery Summer ” tour of groundbreakings at infrastructure projects paid for by the stimulus package. “As part of Recovery Summer, President Obama, Vice President Biden and other administration officials will travel to more than two dozen Recovery Act project sites in the coming weeks, highlighting the surge in project activity and the Recovery Act’s steady climb to 3.5 million jobs by the end of the year,” the White House press release said. CBS followed the president to Ohio the next day and promoted his tour. Katie Couric said, “With the oil spill dominating so much of the news, President Obama wanted to remind everyone today he hasn’t forgotten about unemployment, which remains close to ten percent. So he went to Ohio to mark a milestone.” What milestone? The 10,000 th project paid by stimulus package that the news media sold as a huge job creator. Couric noted that the recession wiped out more than eight million jobs, but stressed that nearly 900,000 jobs were created in November 2009. Couric’s brief report had no criticism of the Obama administration’s handling of the economy. One night later, on June 19, CBS’s Jeff Glor cited an improvement of the unemployment rate in 37 states calling it “one more sign the economy may be improving overall,” as the lead in to a story about four struggling families. On the subject of jobs, the media have grasped for any positive indicators they can find, but have rarely criticized Obama for the lengthy stretch of high unemployment. In 2009, the rate hit a 26-year-high and the United States saw the most jobs lost in a single year since 1940 , yet journalists omitted the failure of the stimulus package and refused to hold Obama accountable for the jobs losses. The media were thrilled when the May jobs report came out reflecting the hiring of 411,000 temporary Census employees, even though those jobs would only last a couple of months. Headlines at CNN.com and other outlets emphasized the “fastest pace” of job creation in 10 years. But now Obama’s “recovery summer” has gone bust . According to James Pethokoukis, Money and Politics columnist for Reuters, it “must have looked like a pretty safe wager for the Obama administration” at the beginning of June. Jobs were added in the spring and the economy was growing, but as Pethokoukis noted “the economy has fallen back to earth.” He cited a number of concerning economic data, including falling private sector job growth, very high unemployment and a growing number of people too discouraged to look for work. ‘Green Shoots,’ Silver Linings and ‘Glimmers of Hope’ It doesn’t seem to matter how bad the economy gets under Obama’s leadership, the mainstream media cling to whatever small piece of good news they can find. That’s exactly how journalists have spun many of the monthly jobs reports – by emphasizing the unemployment rate over the number of jobs lost or vice versa depending on which sounded better. After 54,000 jobs were lost (net) in August and the unemployment rate ticked back up to 9.6 percent, CNN emphasized that 67,000 private-sector jobs that had been created and found two economists to talk up the economy. Just two days later on Sept. 5, CNN’s Ali Velshi said, “There are fresh signs of an economic recovery, but where are the jobs?” At least as far back at April 2009, media outlets were starting to talk about “green shoots” in the economy. Ben Bernanke likely started the trend after telling “60 Minutes” he detected some “green shoots” of economic recovery. Journalists in particular embraced the phrase along with others like silver lining , ” bright spot ,” and ” glimmers of hope .” Newsweek , all three broadcast networks, major newspapers like The New York Times and Washington Post and other outlets have mentioned “green shoots” when discussing the economy since Obama took office. Some have used the good news to bolster the president. Former Clinton administration official George Stephanopoulos was upbeat about an “economic turnaround” on “This Week” Aug. 2, 2009. “The president’s poll numbers may be wilting a bit in the summer heat, but each day this week brought those economic green shoots he’s been counting on,” he said. “Monday, new home sales jumped, the biggest monthly increase in eight years. Tuesday, home prices, their first increase in three years. Wednesday, a surprising step up in manufacturing activity. Thursday, new jobless claims fall to their lowest level since January,” Stephanopoulos said. “And Friday, the clearest sign yet that the recession might be easing. Second-quarter growth falling much more slowly than expected as the stock market capped off its best month since 2002.” Context, however, shows the wishful thinking – or spinning – behind those remarks. The ABC anchor was talking up the economy because growth fell more slowly than it had been – not because the economy was actually growing. On Nov. 24, 2009, Jim Cramer spoke of “areas of encouragement” despite “horrible” unemployment numbers on the “Today” show with Matt Lauer. LAUER: One in 10 Americans out of work in this country right now. Got other people who are underemployed, then there are the whole group of people who are worried about losing their jobs. But you keep hearing economists and experts talk about green shoots.          CRAMER: Right. LAUER: These are – these are areas of encouragement. What do you see as green shoots right now? CRAMER: Auto sales, not bad. October, pretty good. LAUER: Post cash for clunkers? CRAMER: Yeah. November, not bad. We don’t have a lot of cars, excess inventory. There’s not a lot of excess inventory at retailers. Retailers are saying that November’s been pretty good. We also saw a very good number for existing home sales, some stabilization. Those are all three very good signs, Matt. In contrast to the pro-administration media, CNBC’s Rick Santelli has brought perspective to many economic stories including the issue of unemployment On March 29, 2010, Santelli warned that the “traditional media” would overplay the upcoming jobs report that would probably show lower jobless numbers. Santelli explained that the report would mislead because of many temporary census jobs that would be included. “Well, you know I think the market, many want to believe, many want to believe in the green shoots,” Santelli said. “They want to believe that optimism is part of the medicine. You know, I’m not sure if I’m in that camp but I think there’s going to be a couple or three months in a row here, where whether it’s GDP or whether it’s job data, that’s going to have the possibility to look better.” “I think those that understand that this type of job creation isn’t going to last and it isn’t going to ultimately make up the 200,000 we need just to remain neutral, but it will move markets, yes. And I think interest rates on this holiday Friday, should we get a 250,000 or higher number, is going to be wild. And it shouldn’t be, but it will,” Santelli concluded. Like this article? 10 Reasons Not to Burn the Qur’an

Ten Reasons Not to Burn the Qur'an in response to Dove World Outreach Center's plan to burn copies of the Qur'an on the 9th anniversary of 9/11. We hope our Ten Reasons will help bring about greater awareness, understanding and healing on this sad anniversary. Ten Reasons Not to Burn the Qur'an ONE Dove World Outreach Center: The Koran* teaches that Jesus Christ, the Crucified, Risen Son of God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords was NOT the Son of God, nor was he crucified (a well documented historical fact that ONLY Islam denies). This teaching removes the possibility of salvation and eternal life in heaven for all Islam's believers. They face eternal damnation in hell if they do not repent. * Islam is not a new religion, but traces its roots to Abrahamic monotheism, which teaches that God is one. God is one means that God has no parents, spouse, son or daughter. Therefore, God is considered indivisible and incomparable in any way, shape or form to any other living creature. * This idea can also be found in the Hebrew Scriptures in the form of the first of the Ten Commandments and elsewhere in the Bible. * The belief that Jesus was not crucified also predates Islam. For example, the Docetans were among Jesus' early followers, who also claimed he was never crucified and that another was crucified in his stead. * The Qur'an also teaches that Jesus, peace be upon him, is a prophet and a messenger of God, equal to Mohammad himself. TWO Dove World Outreach Center: The Koran does not have an eternal origin. It is not recorded in heaven. The Almighty God, Creator of the World, is NOT its source. It is not holy. Its writings are human in origin, a concoction of old and new teachings. This has been stated and restated for centuries by scholars since Islam's beginnings, both Moslem and non-Moslem. * The Qur'an is considered to be God's word, delivered to Mohammad via Gabriel, and recited by Mohammad to his followers. Scholars tend to diverge greatly in their opinions on this subject. * The Qur'an is among one of the only holy books that attests that the Bible is of divine origin, and the first to ever do so. That is a second good reason not to burn the Qur'an. THREE Dove World Outreach Center: The Koran's teaching includes Arabian idolatry, paganism, rites and rituals. These are demonic, an ongoing satanic stronghold under which Moslems and the world suffer. * The Qur'an is unequivocally against idolatry and satanic worship. Anyone who makes these claims cannot possibly have read and understood the Qur'an and should at least thoroughly read what he/she is attempting to disparage. FOUR Dove World Outreach Center: The earliest writings that are known to exist about the Prophet Mohammad were recorded 120 years after his death. All of the Islamic writings are contradictory and inconsistent. Maybe Mohammad never existed. We have no conclusive account about what he said or did. Yet Moslems follow the destructive teachings of Islam without question. * The Qur'an is an independent text and is very different from the Hadith, histories and biographical literature which should not be confused with the former. * The Qur'an is one of few prophetic books that have been so well preserved and that give an accurate rendition of the prophet's communication. It is thereby one of the world's greatest treasures. That is a fourth good reason not to burn the Qur'an. FIVE Dove World Outreach Center: Mohammad's life and message cannot be respected. The first Meccan period of his leadership seems to have been religiously motivated and a search for the truth. But in the second Medina period he was “corrupted by power and worldly ambitions.” This led to political assassinations and massacres which continue to be carried out on a regular basis by his followers today. * Mohammad lifestyle was exemplary and he lived very simply, preferring to give his money to the poor. Few can match his kindness towards his enemies. For example, when he and his followers conquered Mecca, he did so peacefully and did not punish its pagan inhabitants, even though they had tortured and oppressed them. There is no evidence that he ever ordered a political assassination or a massacre. * The Qur'an teaches forgiveness of Jews, Christians and people of other religions, even when they harm Muslims. SIX Dove World Outreach Center: Islamic Law is totalitarian in nature. There is no separation of church and state. It is irrational. It is supposedly immutable and cannot be changed. It must be accepted without criticism. * Islamic law is a pre-modern system of law and changes all the time. It should not be confused with the Qur'an, which is unchanging, even though its interpretation can vary. * The Qur'an is the one scripture that teaches not to take up rabbis, priests and other clergy and give them the authority to delineate religious law. Following the Qur'an, all human beings equal before God. SEVEN Dove World Outreach Center: Islam is not compatible with democracy and human rights. The notion of a moral individual capable of making decisions and taking responsibility for them does not exist in Islam. The attitude towards women in Islam as inferior possessions of men has led to countless cases of mistreatment and abuse for which Moslem men receive little or no punishment, and in many cases are encouraged to commit such acts, and are even praised for them. * The Qur'an does not delineate a particular political system for Muslim to follow. * The Qur'an is known for giving rights to minorities and other vulnerable peoples. For example, it has given women the right to life, independent ownership of property, wages, divorce, marriage, inheritance, maintenance, good treatment, etc. EIGHT Dove World Outreach Center: A Muslim does not have the right to change his religion. Apostasy is punishable by death. * A Muslim has a God-given right to change his/her religion, if they should so choose-the Qur'an clearly states “Let there be no compulsion in religion” (2:256). NINE Dove World Outreach Center: Deep in the Islamic teaching and culture is the irrational fear and loathing of the West. * The Qur'an does not endorse hatred of anyone and does not privilege any human being over another on the basis of race, origins or country. “O Humankind, we have created you from a male and a female and have made you into peoples and tribes so that you may know one another.” (49:13). TEN Dove World Outreach Center: Islam is a weapon of Arab imperialism and Islamic colonialism. Wherever Islam has or gains political power, Christians, Jews and all non-Moslems receive persecution, discrimination, are forced to convert. * These claims are not supported by historical fact–if non-Muslims were forced to convert, there would be no Christian and Jewish minorities in Muslim-majority countries today. * As for “Arab imperialism”, Mohammad's last sermon states: “An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.” * Islam literally means “peace-making”–it is the causative Form IV of the root “salam,” which means wholeness, peace, well-being and safety. * Muslims have never embarked on a campaign to burn the Bible in any of its forms. It is the Qur'an insists on freedom of worship-“Let there be no compulsion in religion.” * The correct reference is “Qur'an”, not “Koran” http://www.codepink.org/article.php?id=5545 http://barenakedislam.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/book-burning.jpg?w=460&h=3… added by: pinkpanther

Connecting the Dots-The Big Money Behind theTea Party

This may have been reported before but it's worth another look. Recently a journalist at the New Yorker Magazine researched where the money funding the Tea Party comes from. Not surprisingly it's source is a large petroleum interest, Koch Industries. ” In Washington, Koch is best known as part of a family that has repeatedly funded stealth attacks on the federal government, and on the Obama Administration in particular. With his brother Charles, who is seventy-four, David Koch owns virtually all of Koch Industries, a conglomerate, headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, whose annual revenues are estimated to be a hundred billion dollars. The company has grown spectacularly since their father, Fred, died, in 1967, and the brothers took charge. The Kochs operate oil refineries in Alaska, Texas, and Minnesota, and control some four thousand miles of pipeline. Koch Industries owns Brawny paper towels, Dixie cups, Georgia-Pacific lumber, Stainmaster carpet, and Lycra, among other products. Forbes ranks it as the second-largest private company in the country, after Cargill, and its consistent profitability has made David and Charles Koch—who, years ago, bought out two other brothers—among the richest men in America. Their combined fortune of thirty-five billion dollars is exceeded only by those of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests. In a study released this spring, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute named Koch Industries one of the top ten air polluters in the United States. And Greenpeace issued a report identifying the company as a “kingpin of climate science denial.” The report showed that, from 2005 to 2008, the Kochs vastly outdid ExxonMobil in giving money to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus. It is a sorry day in America when two bastards and their money are allowed to tear down a successful democracy for their own selfish interests. http://dccc.org/blog/archives/big_oil_billionaire_koch_brothers_funding_swift-bo… added by: Mark701

Open Thread: Sen. Murkowski Concedes to Palin-backed Joe Miller

And so concludes the most recent chapter in one of Alaska’s most epic political rivalries – Palin vs. the Murkowskis. More importantly, Joe Miller is an anti-establishment candidate in every sense of the word. He poses a threat even to the GOP’s congressional leadership, as Tim Carney noted : The Alaska result is above all a blow to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. As with the primary defeat of Utah’s Bob Bennett in the spring, challenger Joe Miller’s likely win replaces a close McConnell confidant with an unaccommodating conservative… Murkowski was one of McConnell’s rising stars. He tapped her for his inner circle in her first term, and she also got a spot on the Appropriations Committee. The darling of Alaska’s former senior senator, Ted Stevens, Murkowski rocketed through the ranks. This year, she was elected secretary of the Senate Republican Conference, one of the top six leadership roles. After Stevens lost re-election in 2008, McConnell took her under his wing. “Lisa is the new powerhouse in Alaska,” he told Roll Call. “She will fill the vacuum left by Ted.” Is Miller’s anti-establishment approach a boon for a GOP seeking to rebrand itself, or a dangerous means to divide the party?

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 11 Lineup Revealed

MTV stars Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and Audrina Patridge are in the mix. By Kara Warner Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images It’s that time of the year again: ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” casting announcement is here! The rumors have been circulating, guesses made and, finally, the official list is here. As usual, the new crop of celebrity dancers is a band of merry misfits. But we here at MTV News can’t help but smile that two of the newest castmembers are, in a sense, homegrown: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Something tells us this “Jersey Shore” breakout star isn’t going to have a problem showing off a little chest on “DWTS.” The self-proclaimed guido has already made an impression on reality-TV fans with his one-liners and manscaped abs; now he can put all the time he spent fist-pumping in Seaside Heights nightclubs to good use on the dance floor. Audrina Patridge The brunet starlet made her Hollywood debut on MTV’s “The Hills” as Heidi and Lauren’s aspiring-model neighbor. Patridge has since pursued an acting career, scoring parts in “Sorority Row” and “Into the Blue 2.” With “The Hills” signing off this past July, the California girl is ready to show off her fancy footwork on a new reality show. Brandy Once known primarily as the spunky and sweet teen singer of “Sittin’ Up in My Room” and “I Wanna Be Down” and the star of the sitcom “Moesha,” Brandy Norwood is back on television with her brother Ray J in the VH1 reality show “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business.” Norwood was also rumored to be dating rapper Flo Rida in the spring. Bristol Palin By now she is no stranger to the spotlight. First thrust into the public eye via her mom’s VP candidacy with John McCain in 2008, Bristol Palin was just 17 when it was announced she was pregnant and engaged to her child’s father, Levi Johnston. Palin currently juggles the duties of a single mom with public speaking, advocating abstinence to teens. She also appeared as herself on an episode of “The Secret Life of an American Teenager.” Her relationship with Johnston has been the epitome of on-again, off-again (they are currently “off”). Jennifer Grey We can hear the “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” quotes now. Die-hard fans of the beloved “Dirty Dancing” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actress are likely clamoring to get tickets to see Grey step back into her dancing shoes — surely she’ll dance to “Time of My Life” (the classic “Dancing” number), right? In recent years, Grey has appeared on TV and in film, often guest-starring as herself. David Hasselhoff Hasselhoff — a.k.a. “The Hoff” — is no stranger to reality television, having just ended his stint as a judge on “America’s Got Talent.” Hasselhoff first rose to fame on the ’80s TV hit “Knight Rider,” then as forever-tan lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on “Baywatch.” He also enjoyed a brief career as a pop star in Germany, with two #1 hits on the German pop charts. Plus, he knows how to ham it up and take criticism — just check out his “Comedy Central Roast.” Florence Henderson The spunky 76-year-old is best known for playing the matriarch on “The Brady Show” in the late ’60s and early ’70s, but she hasn’t been a stranger over the past few decades, appearing on “The Surreal Life” in 2006 and even guest-hosting “WWE Monday Night Raw.” Hopefully she’ll fare a little better than previous AARP-eligible contestants (see: Cloris Leachman, Buzz Aldrin). Margaret Cho The racy comedian first made an impression with her 1994 sitcom “All American Girl,” which only lasted one season. Since then, she has written several books and found success on the road with her stand-up act. She also scored her own reality show in 2008: VH1’s “The Cho Show.” Let’s see if her entertaining comedy routine can translate into “DWTS” success. Kurt Warner One of two former pro athletes in the cast, Warner is a much-loved (for both his work on the football field and off) former NFL quarterback. Warner played 12 seasons for three different teams: the St. Louis Rams (with whom he helped win the Super Bowl and MVP in 2000), New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Warner holds several NFL records, including the three highest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history. Michael Bolton Anyone listening to top 40 radio in the ’90s grew to either love or hate Bolton’s chart-toppers “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.” Combined with his signature (and sultry) tenor voice and his formerly flowing locks, Bolton was a force to be reckoned with. The balladeer has been in the news recently after word got out that he and Lady Gaga were working together on his upcoming album, One World One Love, due in September. Rick Fox Many former pro athletes have found success on the show (Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Emmett Smith, etc.), so the addition of the former NBA player — he played for the Celtics and the Lakers — is not too much of a surprise. Fox is also well-known for being Vanessa Williams’ ex-husband and a sometimes actor with bit parts in TV and film. Kyle Massey Perhaps due to the success and popularity of their last Disney kid, “Hannah Montana” actor Cody Linley, ABC added “That’s So Raven” and “Cory in the House” star Kyle Massey to the roster. The plucky 19-year-old — who is also a rapper — is the cast’s youngest member. Perhaps he’ll wow the audience with his dance moves and lyrical stylings. Are you looking forward to the new season of “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments below! Related Photos ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 11 Cast Revealed! Related Artists Brandy

ENDA is about men showering with women

Barney Frank: ENDA is about men showering with women Date: 8/27/2010 9:53:29 AM By Bryan Fischer “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27, emphasis mine). According to both Scripture and biology, there are just two genders, two and only two, male and female. Period. Pro-family advocates have from the beginning opposed the normalizing of transgenderism because it does gross violence to any rational view of human sexuality, and, even worse, will force women to share shower, bathroom and locker-room facilities with biological males. Nonsense, we’ve been told by the deviancy cabal. All hype, fear, and exaggeration. Nothing to fear here except homophobia, move along. It’s all just fear-mongering, nothing like that will ever happen. Your daughter will never run into a disrobed male in the locker room of your local public pool. This is an ongoing battle in our day, at the state level as well as the congressional level. This spring, Maine very nearly enacted a policy that would require ENDA-type regulations in every school in the state, including private Christian schools. It was narrowly turned back. A major goal of the Democrats in the current Congress is to get a transvestite-friendly ENDA bill passed this year. No worries, they say. Pro-family opponents are just trying to scare you with all this bathroom and locker room talk. And then along comes Rep. Barney Frank, the homosexual congressman from Massachusetts, to inadvertently save the day. Democrats tried to pass ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) in 1999, and were under extreme pressure to include transgenders under its umbrella. Transgenders are people who are so psychologically and mentally confused they think they are trapped in a body of the wrong sex. So we are talking here about biological males – males in every single cell of their bodies, with every strand of DNA male to the core, males according to “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” – who are convinced that they are women trapped in male bodies. Consequently, they want to act as women, dress as women, and use the same facilities women use, including bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms. The pro-family community has spoken with one voice. No, no, a thousand times no. We do not want our wives and daughters exposed to such perversion. We insist on a decent protection for the privacy of the females in our families, and do not believe that males have any moral, ethical or legal right to share shower facilities with them. In a long-buried piece from the homosexual newspaper, Bay Windows, dated June 10, 1999, Mr. Frank lets the proverbial cat out of the cathouse. In fending off transgendered activists, Frank told the paper it would be impossible to pass an ENDA bill which included special protections for such sexually abnormal individuals. Here’s what he had to say: “I’ve talked with transgender activists and what they want—and what we will be forced to defend—is for people with penis’ who identify as women to be able to shower with other women. There are no votes for that. And if that is the price for this bill, it is wrong.” (Emphasis mine) Read that again: ENDA, as currently fashioned, is about “people with penis’ who identify as women to be able to shower with other women.” Rep. Frank said since that’s what this bill is about, we’d have to defend that. They didn’t have the votes to do it in 1999. But they’re back, trying to break down the door to your daughter’s locker room in 2010. So if you want your daughter to share a shower at your school, or at the local YMCA, with “people with penis’,” then Barney Frank and his ruling class colleagues are the kind of congressmen you want. But if you want any kind of sane public policy on human sexuality, then they’re not. For my money, this is the ENDA the discussion about whether the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is good public policy. Let’s protect our wives and daughters and drive this misbegotten piece of legislation into oblivion. http://action.afa.net/Blogs/BlogPost.aspx?id=2147497842 added by: ReverandG
