Lady Gaga’s Best Awards-Show Arrivals: From Kermit To The Egg

Gaga has always graced red carpets in completely over-the-top ways. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga arrives at the Grammy Awards on Sunday Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Lady Gaga arrived at the Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday night in an egg designed by powerhouse fashion houses Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. And we’d expect nothing less from Gaga, who has a long list of unusual and over-the-top awards show entrances in her short career. Check out photos of Lady Gaga’s most memorable entrances . Back in September, Gaga hit the white carpet of the 2010 VMAs in gown designed by late friend Alexander McQueen and was joined by several servicemen and women who had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force and Army for being openly gay or bisexual. “These soldiers that are with me today have all been discharged from the Air Force or Army, or opted to leave on their own. … Their stories are truly inspiring, and in my opinion — and as so many young people around the world believe — ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is wrong, it’s sick, it’s immoral,” she explained of her choice to include them in her appearance. Later in the night she appeared in the press room wearing the now-famous meat dress and pointed out its connection to her earlier companions. “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones,” Gaga explained . “And I am not a piece of meat.” At last year’s Grammy Awards , Gaga was out-of-this world in a sparkly lavender and silver dress that looked like a planet with orbiting rings. What did the spacey outfit mean? “The series of pieces Mr. Armani created for me are truly iconic; they represent not only beautiful fashion, but my spirit and essence as an artist,” she said. “Mr. Armani is a fashion legend, and tonight would not have been the same without his touch, and his wonderful team.” Gaga, who once wore a dress made of Kermit the Frogs, arrived at the 2009 VMAs with Kermit himself as her date for the big show. It was the first time that Gaga had created such a major spectacle for herself at an awards show. “He’s been a really good date,” Gaga joked to MTV News. “It’s our first date, but we’ve been eyeing each other for a while.” And on Sunday night, though she didn’t do interviews as her egg was being carried into the Staples Center, the art piece spoke for itself. “She’s born this way, so maybe she’s being born again!” MTV News red-carpet correspondent Snooki noted after Gaga waved to her from inside her shell. Snooki And Bruno Mars Flirt At The Grammys

‘I got love for Snooki. I want the world to know that,’ the ‘Just the Way You Are’ singer announces on the red carpet. By Eric Ditzian Bruno Mars at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merrit/ Getty Images Love was in the air on the pre-Valentine’s Day red carpet at the 53rd Grammy Awards on Sunday night, and MTV News guest correspondent Snooki was at the center of the action. The “Jersey Shore” star asked Drake to serenade her, wondered if Jay Sean would offer to smush her and asked Bruno Mars if they might ever end up in a relationship together. Judging by Mars’ reaction, he just might be down, because when the “Just the Way You Are” singer stopped to chat with Snooki, the two couldn’t quit paying tribute to each other. “I’m very, very excited [by] everything that you’re doing,” she told him. “You’re probably the greatest songwriter I’ve ever seen. And I’m not lying.” Mars then announced to the camera, “I got love for Snooki. I want the world to know that.” The pint-sized party girl responded by saying, “Yay! Can you see us as a couple?” And then the two went into some impromptu fist-pumping, which is almost grounds for legal marriage in Seaside Heights. At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, though, Mars already had enough on his mind. He was up for seven nominations, including Best Rap Song (“Nothin’ on You”), Song of the Year (“F— You”) and Record of the Year (“Nothin’ on You”). By the end of the night, though, he only came out on top in one category: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Just the Way You Are.” But at least for a few minutes, the singer/songwriter was able to wipe away any nervous energy about the impending awards and throw his hand in the air alongside Snooki. “Oh yeah, that’s hot. I love it,” she said. “You look good tonight. Just sayin’.” Snooki then asked Mars what he was doing after the big show, and he responded, “I don’t know. Why don’t you hit me up when the cameras are gone, you know what I’m saying? You could just kick it.” What do you think about a Snooki-Bruno Mars hook-up? Share your opinions in the comments. Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Top Grammy Performer Poll

Fans can’t wait for their Aretha Franklin tribute, with Lady Gaga and Eminem’s performances the next most anticipated. By Kyle Anderson Christina Aguilera Photo: Getty Images The 53rd annual Grammy Awards are almost here, and while the hardware tends to be the main event, the roster of performers is one of the most star-studded and high-profile in the show’s history. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Arcade Fire, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Muse, B.o.B, Usher, Bob Dylan and Bruno Mars are among the heavy hitters who will be taking the stage Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. But which performance is creating the most buzz among fans tuning in to watch the show? Earlier this week, the MTV Newsroom blog posed just such a question, and the results are now in. As soon as voting began, the competition became a war of attrition between supporters of Lady Gaga and hard-core devotees of Eminem. But once the producers announced that there would be a tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson , the competition suddenly morphed into a three-way dance. After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, the Aretha Franklin tribute (also featuring Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams) finished in first place with 45 percent of the total vote. It’s a pretty impressive finish, especially considering that the performance wasn’t announced until after voting began. Lady Gaga ended up in second place with 23 percent, with Eminem just behind her with 20 percent. Perhaps fueled by the buzz over the release of “Never Say Never,” Justin Bieber made a late run and managed to cobble together 9 percent. Katy Perry was the only other Grammy performer to pick up more than a single percentage point, and poor Miranda Lambert ended up bringing up the rear. All of Sunday night’s Grammy performances promise to be electric, but fans can barely contain themselves for Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Eminem. Don’t miss “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys,” a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. And stick with us all Grammy night for coverage of the red carpet, the show, the afterparties and beyond! Related Photos 2011 Grammy Performers
