Robert Pattinson Reflects On His Hair Evolution

From ‘The Wavy Forest’ to ‘The Cullen Pouf,’ RPattz discusses ‘dos on ‘MTV First: Robert Pattinson.’ By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson in “Twilight” Photo: Summit Entertainment In his upcoming film, the 1930s period drama “Water for Elephants,” based on Sara Gruen’s best-selling novel of the same name, Robert Pattinson begins to show new depth and range as an actor. Plus, his hair looks really, really different. Much like his career, RPattz’s hair is evolving. So, when MTV News sat down with the star for “MTV First: Robert Pattinson,” it seemed like the perfect time to reflect on the diverse coifs that have sent his follicle-obsessed fans into a frenzy. From his “Twilight”-appropriate ‘dos such as “The Wavy Forest” and “The Cullen Pouf” to the self-explanatory “Windswept ‘What the F—‘ ” to the more subdued and serious looks like “Controlled Chaos” and “Clean & Cut but Hold the Shave,” Pattinson took a trip down memory lane of the many haircuts he’s rocked. “I always like … the ‘Forest’ thing,” he said. Turns out, that particular hair style carried him through what he describes as the “unemployable” phase of his career. While attending the Los Angeles premiere of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” in 2007, Pattinson admitted to looking rather, well, unkempt. “I walked down Hollywood Boulevard to Grauman’s [Chinese Theater] and had to walk through the crowd and stuff,” recalled the 24-year-old star who was not yet famous, adding, “I was so hungover and so bloated, and some of the pictures are just so funny. It literally looks like someone just found a homeless person and just put them on [the red carpet]. … It was so ridiculous.” So, what is it that helps the star maintain that tousled, albeit sometimes homeless-looking hair? Courtesy of his “Twilight” co-star Ashley Greene, we asked RPattz what brand of shampoo he uses: “I use dog shampoo,” he joked. In reality, he, like so many other sexy slacker types before him, simply uses, “Whatever is around.” But, the question remained: Would Pattinson ever rock the oh-so-sought-after Justin Bieber ‘do? Despite rumors that he and his fellow heartthrob had discussed their hair together (“I never met this guy!” Pattinson told MTV), the actor was somewhat willing to take on the side-swept style. After laughing about the idea of sporting “The Bieber,” RPattz quipped that instead he’d wear “a Bieber hat.” Which Robert Pattinson hairstyle is your favorite? Sound off in the comments below! Willow Smith’s ’21st Century Girl’ Video Premieres

Video features the star singing girl-power song in the desert and the city. By Jocelyn Vena Willow Smith Photo: Getty Images An old woman (played by Cicely Tyson) walks in the desert, mumbling to herself when she comes across bone fragments. As she digs her way through the sand, she finds various objects. The sand begins to rumble and out comes a hooded Willow Smith. The woman whispers something in her ear and disappears. Taking a look around, Willow grabs some dirt and a butterfly emerges out of nothing. Thus begins the video for “21st Century Girl.” Looking fierce in a red and yellow outfit, Smith shows some swagga as she runs through the desert, singing the girl-power song, pulling guitars from the sand with wolves and other precocious kids at her side. Her crew pulls remnants from the 21st century out of the sand. Among the bikes and skateboards is a metropolis, complete with skyscrapers that grow from the dry land. In this cityscape, Willow dons new threads: leopard tights, yellow shorts and a sassy T-shirt that reads, “Boys need training.” She and her pals dance around the city. Then Willow is seen whispering to a baby girl, who too can form a butterfly from sand, passing some sort of baton to the next generation of soothsayer types and leaving viewers wondering what power it is that these 21st-century girls possess. The clip hit the Internet over the weekend; it was directed by Rich Lee (Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Pussycat Dolls). The video was shot over two days in January. “21st Century Girl” hit radio last week and will be featured on Smith’s forthcoming debut album. She’s currently on the road with Justin Bieber, opening for the star on his European tour. What do you think of Willow’s new video? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Willow Smith

‘Spider-Man’ Musical Going Through ‘Trial By Fire,’ Julie Taymor Says

‘I am in the crucible right now,’ Tony-winning director told TED2011 conference. By Terri Schwartz “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” Photo: Don Emmert/ AFP To say “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has had its share of problems is to say “Avatar” was fairly successful or “The Twilight Saga” is moderately popular. It seems that anything that could possibly have gone wrong with the show has. There have been delays , injuries , bad reviews , script issues and actors leaving , and all before the show has officially opened. Fortunately, the preview shows are selling out across the board, but the musical is struggling and director Julie Taymor knows it. The Tony-winning director hasn’t made a public statement about the problems in production since aerialist and stunt double Christopher Tierney was severely injured back in December. But during the TED2011 conference in Long Beach, California, on Wednesday, Taymor discussed the current state of the musical with an audience of more than 1,000 people. “I am in the crucible right now. It is my trial by fire. It’s my company’s trial by fire. We have survived because our theme song is ‘Rise Above,’ ” Taymor said, according to The New York Times . “Anyone who creates knows — when it’s not quite there. Where it hasn’t quite become the phoenix or the burnt char. And I am right there,” she added. At the moment, the show runners are deciding whether to continue with the planned March 15 opening or delay the musical for a sixth time. Lead actress T.V. Carpio talked to MTV News about the constant changes going on behind the scenes of the show and how she refuses to give in to the negative thoughts pressing on “Turn Off the Dark” from the outside. Both she and Taymor seem to feel that the musical is on the precipice of greatness, and they have the faith to continue on until it reaches that goal. “It’s right there in the palm of my hands,” Taymor said. “In all of my company’s hands. I have beautiful collaborators. We as collaborators only get there all together. I know you understand that. You stay there going forward and you see this extraordinary thing right in front of your eyes.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Britney Spears Explains Her Definition Of Femme Fatale

‘The bitch is back and better than ever!’ the pop singer jokingly declares in her new V magazine cover story. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: V Magazine Britney Spears’ spread in V magazine finally hit newsstands on Thursday (March 3). In the cover story, in which Spears opens up about her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale , the star also chats about what qualities define that mysterious type of woman. She says, “[A femme fatale is] a woman who is sexy and strong, dangerous and mysterious, cool and confident.” As displayed in a number of song teases and even first single “Hold It Against Me,” Femme Fatale certainly has an emphasis on club bangers. And Spears reveals in the V chat which tune off the album she’s most looking forward to having fans hear. “I really love ‘On the Rocks’ because it sounds so different from anything I have ever heard,” she explains. “It’s so cool and quirky.” The decision to make a dance record mostly came from Spears, who admits that she prefers to make tunes that will get fans out on the floor. “I like music that makes you move and connects with your soul. I like to feel inspired right away when I listen to new music,” she says. “I always have songs being sent to me from new artists and producers from all over the world, which is really cool. From there I just follow my heart.” Spears certainly has a strong message for her fans, and perhaps even for the critics who may wonder if the star still has what it takes to compete in an overpopulated pop universe. Her message for them: “That the bitch is back and better than ever!” She continues, “I love making new music for my fans, I love performing for my fans, and most importantly, I love my fans. I am so lucky to have their support. They drive me.” Also in the issue, Spears talks about the media scrutiny she’s endured in recent years, as well as discussing her life now as both a pop star and a mom to her two young sons. “I’m past all of that. I try to block it all out and not pay attention to anything they write about me in the magazines or online. I’m done with that,” she explains. “I think it’s easier to let people in when you’re younger, but when I became a mother I wanted more privacy for myself and my children. A life away from my life.” Spears insists that she has no plans to fade into obscurity anytime soon, while admitting that she would focus on motherhood if she had never become a pop star. “I’d be a full-time mom, which would be cool. I’d miss my fans and all of the love the most, but I definitely would not miss having my picture taken everywhere I go,” she says. I wouldn’t miss showering in arenas either. So gross!” So how would she like to be remembered in the future? “[I hope my legacy is] two amazing boys and a lot of music that hopefully brings a lot of people a lot of happiness,” she explains. Justin Bieber ‘Doesn’t Really Care’ What People Think Of His Haircut

‘I was inspired by yours,’ Bieber tells Ellen DeGeneres of his new hairstyle. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber appears on “Ellen” on Wednesday Photo: ABC Justin Bieber made headlines on Tuesday when it was revealed he had cut his hair , opting for a shorter, cropped version of his famous swooping hairstyle. The star sat down with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday’s show to talk about the new look, and even had a special treat for the comedienne. “I was inspired by yours,” Bieber joked about what motivated the change, adding that he knew people would protest the new look . “Yeah [people were freaking out], but I was like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ” Bieber then preceded to hand a lock of his famous sandy-colored hair to the star, with one major caveat. “Yes, it’s really my hair, but there’s a perk. I wanted to do something good. I’m giving pieces of it to different people,” he explained. “The thing is, we’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.” DeGeneres agreed, also requesting that the star sign something to auction off with it. She announced that she’d be giving the money raised in the auction on her website to the California animal-rescue center the Gentle Barn. DeGeneres tried to cut Bieber’s hair last May when the teen star stopped by her show. Holding up scissors, she said she wanted to cut “just a little” bit of his famous hair. He declined, but did share his secret for perfect hair. “Like five minutes,” Bieber explained. “Like seriously. … I get out of the shower, I blow-dry it and it’s done in five minutes. I just shake [my head].” Bieber is out promoting his 3-D movie “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which is being re-released on Friday with additional footage. Justin Bieber Named MVP Of 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

‘We’re just here having a good time,’ Bieber says after winning the coveted title. By James Dinh Justin Bieber at the 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Feb. 18 Photo: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic As his quest for world domination continues, Justin Bieber took to the basketball court on Friday evening to co-headline the 2011 BBVA NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in Los Angeles. And even though his team lost, the teen sensation won the coveted title of MVP at the end of the star-studded game. Bieber did his best to play alongside fellow celebrity participants including Romeo, Common, Rob Kardashian, Trey Songz, actor Michael Rapaport and Nick Cannon. Basketball stars Scottie Pippen, Bill Walton, Rick Fox, Jalen Rose, Mitch Richmond, Chris Mullin and Swin Cash rounded out the game players. While NBA luminary Bill Walton coached the Eastern Conference, Magic Johnson served as instructor for the Western Conference. With the star talent covering the court, the East and West teams delivered steady competition against one another. But once the third quarter kicked in, the East Conference began dominating the scoreboard with a 41-33 lead. Bieber proved his basketball skills to his West team with a stat line that included eight points, two rebounds and four assists. But in the end, the Eastern Conference took the game by storm with a final score of 54-49 (Western). Despite his team’s loss, the Biebster won over the play-by-play sports commentators, who praised the teen star when he scored. “Justin Bieber! He could be thinking about that MVP award. He has game,” one announcer said. And as predicted, the celebrity all-star showdown ended with ESPN’s Heather Cox awarding the Most Valuable Player trophy to the teen sensation. “We’re just here. We’re having a good time. We went out there and beat them,” Bieber joked. “It was all because of my boy Magic over here.” Earlier in the game, Bieber rounded up his legion of Twitter followers to vote for him as Most Valuable Player during the star-studded game, tweeting , “Everyone text ‘bieber’ to 69622 for me to be MVP in the all-star celeb game. I’m going in!!! Haha.” Not only were his Beliebers able to snatch the title for the pop star, they also showed their support for the 16-year-old singer by creating yet another trending topic on Twitter called “BIEBER ALERT.” Did you watch Justin play during the 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game?
