Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty Omari Hardwick Talks Backlash Over Beyoncé Kiss Omari Hardwick has been keeping quiet about the backlash he faced after embracing and kissing Beyoncé at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards, but this week he broke his silence and explained what was REALLY going on. Speaking about fatherhood and raising his daughter Nova in an interview with Global Grind , the Power actor says that night he was just worried about his baby girl because she’d scratched her cornea. Omari says both Beyoncé and Jay-Z asked about Nova that night, which then led to an extended chat with Hov and the viral moment with Bey. From Global Grind : Criticized for how he interacted with Beyoncé at the award show, Omari had yet to discuss the moment publicly until explaining during our interview that, that night he was simply a worried father thanking his friends who’d expressed concern for his daughter throughout the night. “She has ironically been injured in two very historical moments for me,” Omari told Global Grind when asked about Nova. “Her cornea was scratched the night of the Image Awards. The length of [my] talk with Jay was him asking me about her eye. The length of the hug with Bey was her asking about her eye. I give the speech and I bring up her eye,” he recalls. Describing another moment when his daughter was hurt, Omari went on to tell us Nova’s head had been “busted by her little brother.” “Her eye is scratched by him the night of the Image Awards. A month to maybe a month and a half later, within the time of Nipsey’s death (who was a friend), now her head is busted,” he said, eyes wide with panic. “So, being a father of a daughter, makes it to where the MET experience for me might’ve been the most slow motion, beautifully embraced reality… walking through those long halls of that gallery… because I was thinking so much, on that long walk through those artifacts, about Nova. I kept thinking about Nova,” he revealed, referencing his appearance alongside Dapper Dan at the 2019 MET Gala earlier this week. Omari also said Jay is like a big bro, so there’s no way he wouldn’t show Beyoncé love. In an earlier sidebar, Omari explained that while the world knows him as Ghost, Jay-Z knows him as a little brother, saying “Jay-Z would’ve punched me in my face if I didn’t hug his wife. He would’ve said ‘n*gga, you don’t see Bey?’” He tells the site that at no point in his life, even before having his daughter, did he think disrespecting women was cool… “My honor and my respect for women – while you have idiot fanbases who go ‘Watch your wife around Omari’ – I got a wife (A), so f*ck you. I love you, but f*ck yo u (B). (C), I respect women so much prior to Nova being born that once Nova got to Earth… man, it doubled my respect for women. This was going to be bad from the jump. The big news out of the counseling session was Rasheeda saying that she had been unfaithful to Kirk in the past. We guess this was a way to explain why she has stayed with Kirk after years and years of cheating and babies with side chicks. While this shocked the cast, namely Yung Joe, it didn’t quite get a lot of support from fans who think Rasheeda is full of s***. Basically they think she is making it up so she doesn’t look so much like a boo boo the fool for the way she keeps taking Kirk back. This weekend if you want to laugh log on to Netflix to check out Wine Country the directorial debut of Amy Poehler starring Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Emily Spivey, and Jason Schwartzman. The movie is based on a real-life trip to Napa Valley and tells the story of six women who start to question their friendships during a trip to Napa Valley, California, to celebrate the 50th birthday of one of the ladies. This movie has some very funny moments and it’s perfectly paired with a bottle of wine and some paella. I went to Napa Valley to sit down with the cast for this week’s episode of Extra Butter With Xilla Valentine. We talked about some of the funniest scenes and examined why it’s impossible for parents to get a moment of privacy, especially when it comes to using the bathroom. We also chatted about their favorite podcasts, with the ladies sharing some of their favorites. Tiny Fey recommended a podcast called Astonishing Legend which is by Emily Spivey’s husband Scott. Rachel Dratch gave us the breakdown saying, “Its like real very convincing creepy ghost stories.” They also recommended My Favorite Murder by Karen Kilgariff & Georgia Hardstark. Lastly, the ladies talk about how they love making money with their friends. Maya said, “It is a dream scenario” “To wake up and know you’re going to see these faces in the morning. It’s not just the comfort of the friendship but also these ease of already having a history of working together. What a lucky thing to already know each other’s work language and what works for them personally and professionally.” Amy even suggests that Making Money With Friends could be the name of an album. Overall this is a fun interview for an even more fun movie. Check it out on Netflix May 11th.
Source: Joe Robbins / Getty Cowboys Running Back Ezekiel Elliott Will Pay For Jaylon McKenzie’s Funeral Expenses This past weekend, the family of Jaylon McKenzie was struck with grief when the star football player was killed at a party. Now, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is stepping in to cover the funeral expenses. According to ESPN , Elliott, who grew up in St. Louis, reached out to McKenzie’s family soon after the eighth grader died. He wanted to keep the matter between him and the family, but the Cowboys confirmed that Elliott was paying for their funeral expenses. “Zeke is really a special guy,” coach Jason Garrett said on Wednesday at the team’s sponsors’ golf tournament taking place at the Cowboys Golf Club. “He’s a great football player obviously, but he’s a really good person and that doesn’t surprise me one bit.” Garrett continued: “He’s just very generous. He’s got a great spirit about him. We see that every day as players and coaches. Anybody that’s been around him knows that, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit that he would get involved there. He’s someone that a lot of people look up to, a lot of people certainly in St. Louis and Missouri, Ohio State, all across the country. If you’re a fan of football, you know Zeke Elliott, and anybody who’s been around him on a daily basis knows what kind of person he is.” McKenzie’s mother, Sukeena Gunner, explained that her son was about to leave a party in Venice, Illinois when a fight broke out. According to Illinois State Police, McKenzie was hit by a stray bullet and eventually died at a local hospital. The eighth grader was already becoming a star athlete with college scholarship offers. He was also picked to compete in the All-American All-Star Game in Canton, Ohio, during the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend. His sudden passing was truly a tragedy. Good to know there’s athletes out there supporting the family in their time of grievance.
