Most recently, he’s launched a scholarship through the Shawn Carter Foundation for students who would like to study abroad. “The study abroad program was designed by JAY-Z’s charitable foundation and the Institute for International Education (IIE)/Gilman International Scholarship Program. The program was started to ‘designed to expand the global experiences and leadership opportunities for underserved students through establishment of full study-abroad scholarships,’ Travel Noire reports, adding that “according to data from the foundation, 64 percent of the foundation’s scholars are first-generation college students.” Students who are selected will reportedly be required to complete a service project while abroad. Hov’s scholarship for study abroad opportunities comes just as the music mogul is beginning to gain traction in his fight to reform the criminal justice system . For the first time, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss America are all Black women and the three appeared on CBS to describe their journey and groundbreaking wins: “It’s symbolic, I think, and it sends a message across the world really that you can be anything you want to be, and there doesn’t have to be just one of us at a time up here,” Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin said on Tuesday. “It can be all. And I think it showcases diversity as well.” Cheslie Kryst, who won the title of Miss USA last Thursday also added, “It’s also a reminder of how far we have to go.” She continued: “I believe when Ursula Burns was no longer the CEO of Xerox, there were no more Black female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and that is an unfortunate statistic to know. So I think this celebration or this landmark should we celebrated, but it’s also a reminder we have a lot to do.” Kryst currently serves as an attorney in North Carolina who practices civil litigation, and she also represents prisoners in pro-bono work. Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris , who ignored advice and proudly showcased her natural curls during the competition, also explained how representation matters: “I have all these influencers that I look up to on social media. Now I’m getting messages from moms of biracial kids, and kids themselves that are biracial. And girls that are scared to wear their hair naturally, and them saying that I have been a big influence in their lives and that they’re going to start wearing their hair naturally or that they’re more proud to just be themselves. It fills my heart with joy,” Garris said. Garris explained how she used to always straighten her hair for pageants: “It’s just kind of what I did. I looked up to my mom a lot, and she had straight blond hair. I really wanted to embody the same characteristics and I thought I had to do that physically. In a sense, we always knew that Jenelle Evans would eventually get fired from Teen Mom 2 . It was hard to imagine that partnership ending any other way. Jackie Aina uploaded a video on Tuesday titled, “Turning My Mom Into an IG Baddie For A Day!!!” where she spends the day getting her mom all the way glam in honor of the approaching holiday. From a full beat face, to glam wigs and outfit changes, her mom really did transform into the Jackie we all know and love. In honor of this fun video from Ms. Aina, let’s take a look at some other beauty gurus who have brought their mom in to break up the monotony of another make-up video. Another great example of this is from one of our other faves, Alissa Ashley . A couple of months back, she made a video revamping her mom’s makeup routine in an effort to have her looking as youthful as possible–I mean, just LOOK at the difference in that thumbnail. If you’re good at makeup and still don’t know what to get your mama for the big day, a nice makeover really might just do the trick! In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE , the Oscar winner told the publication that he had repressed the past abuse, but was triggered after being in the HBO film The Tale . “One day, while talking through the script with Laura, old memories surprisingly flashed in my mind,” he wrote. “I caught my breath and just kept looping the memories over and over, like rewinding an old VHS tape… I said, ‘Laura, I think I was abused.’” The rapper’s also recalls his abuse in his new memoir Let Love Have the Last Word , which goes into detail about being molested at the age of 9, 10-years-old by a family member. “I was excited for a road trip I was about to take with my family,” he recalled. “My mother; my godmother, Barbara; her son and my god brother Skeet; and his relative, who I’ll call Brandon.” View this post on Instagram Came home to find this waiting on me. I kept repeating ‘No’ and pushing him away. I felt a deep and sudden shame for what happened.” Common revealed that’s he’s been in therapy to help him deal with the past abuse. “I just pushed the whole thing out of my head,” he admitted. “Maybe it’s a matter of survival — Even now, two years after that flash resurgence of memories, as I’m writing, I’m still working through all of this in myself and with my therapist.” The rapper-actor says that while he hasn’t seen “Brandon” in 25 years, he has forgiven him. “I want to be a person who helps break cycles of violence,” he writes. “This is love in action and I intend to practice it.” It’s rare that Black celebrity men come out as sexual abuse survivors, and we need more to follow in Common’s brave footsteps. The trip was supposed to last for four months, but was cut short. Why? Because Sumit's parents adamantly disapprove. Despite that, Jenny is prepared to leave behind her entire family — including her grandkids — and move to India forever. But as you can see in the trailer, Sumit's friends are uncertain that it's going to work without his parents' acceptance; he's keeping it a secret. This isn't just putting up with crappy wifi — this is a village with poor electricity. And there is no running hot water. (There are so many red flags and dealbreakers … and it's unclear if Evelin is really interested in him) Deavan and Jihoon 22-year-old Deavan was already a single mom when 29-year-old Jihoon flew out to Utah from South Korea to meet her. The meeting went well — very well. So well, in fact, that Deavan got pregnant from their first night together. Deavan would love to marry Jihoon, even if it means moving to South Korea and grappling with a language barrier. But there's been no proposal. She'll want one before she moves with her (soon-to-be) two young children. Also … there's concern that Jihoon's parents won't endorse their relationship, because Deavan got pregnant before there was even an engagement. Paul and Karine Remember when we mentioned familiar faces? 35-year-old Paul and 22-year-old Karine are very, very familiar to fans. Paul and Karine had their baby earlier this year. Paul had initially come to Brazil just to get to know Karine in person before bringing her back to the US. But it turns out that he cannot afford a K-1 visa, so instead, he's taking the extra step of preparing to move to Brazil. This show is going to be a weird experience for Americans to watch. We can't wait.
