Source: Kevork Djansezian / Getty LeBron James Won’t Be In The Playoffs This Year It’s official: LeBron James has been eliminated from the NBA Playoffs for the first time since the 2004-05 season. The Lakers were out defeated on Friday night when the Brooklyn Nets beat them in a tight race of 111-106. As for the team itself, this will be the sixth year in a row the Lakers have missed the postseason, which just so happens to be a franchise record (but not the good kind). This loss also drops the Los Angeles Lakers’ record to 31-41 for the entire season. LeBron’s signing at the beginning of this season originally gave the Lakers something to look forward to. It was all good just a few months ago, when the team was in fourth place in the Western Conference after a Christmas Day victory against Golden State. But that’s also when things started to go downhill, as James suffered a groin injury during that same game and had to sit out for a career-long 17 games. The Lakers ended up only winning 6 of those 17 games without him and the team as a whole just wasn’t able to bounce back. This transition to the Lakers also marks a big year of firsts (or at least the firsts in a long time) for LeBron. In addition to missing out on the postseason for the first time in 14 years, LeBron’s streak of playing in eight consecutive NBA Finals has officially come to an end. The last Finals without LeBron were in 2010, when the Lakers beat the Celtics in seven games. The only bright side to this? LeBron has a lot of stuff up his sleeve outside of basketball, so he probably won’t be too bored during his extra time off.

The reality star was arrested again on Thursday after reportedly showing up to her court appearance drunk as hell. Now she’s asking fans for forgiveness. Someone posted this message to her IG account yesterday. From what we assume, Tommie has not been released but she wanted to get this out ASAP… “I’ve been working really hard through my problems considering the challenges that’s been set before me. Since I’ve been home.” Tommie goes on to say that she knows she needs help and is seeking treatment. Source: Kent Gavin / Getty Fifty-two years ago today, Muhammad Ali would fight his last fight prior to being suspended from boxing. The match took place at Madison Square Garden in NYC and he was fighting Zora Folley . Folley and Ali went seven rounds before Ali knocked him out. The vet went down suddenly, but Ali’s win couldn’t have been much of a surprise, as the heavyweight world champion was undefeated in the ring. “I went to New York to win the championship. I wouldn’t have gone if I did not think I could win,” Folley said at the time . “I was confident. But Ali beat me at my own game…the right hands Ali hit me with just had no business landing—but they did. They came from nowhere…this guy has a style all of his own.” Ali defended his title but at the time he was also fighting for his life, having been reclassified as eligible to serve in the Vietnam war. In April of 1967, Ali refused to be inducted into the United States military—consequentially, his license was suspended by the New York State Boxing Commission and he was stripped of his title, with other states following suit. The following month, Ali would be indicted by a federal grand jury, who accused him of violating the Selective Service Act. He was eventually sentenced to five years in prison with an added fine of $10,000. “I’m the champ. I can beat any man alive. I don’t have to prove it to anybody. It doesn’t make any difference if they take my name off a few bits of paper. You can’t brainwash the fact that I am the champ out of the minds of the people. If I thought it would bring freedom, justice, and equality for 22 million so-called negroes, they wouldn’t have to draft me. I’d join tomorrow,” he is quoted as saying after exiting the courthouse. The champ would never serve the five year prison sentence, as he remained free during court appeals, with the Supreme Court overturning his conviction in 1971. As we all know, Muhammad Ali passed away in 2016 at the age of 74 and his death devastated the world. In 1975, Ali was asked by Playboy how he thought he’d be remembered. He responded: “I don’t know, but I’ll tell you how I’d like to be remembered: as a black man who won the heavyweight title and who was humorous and who treated everyone right. As a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him and who helped as many of his people as he could– financially and also in their fight for freedom, justice and equality. As a man who wouldn’t hurt his people’s dignity by doing anything that would embarrass them. As a man who tried to unite his people through the faith of Islam that he found when he listened to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. And if all that’s asking too much, then I guess I’d settle for being remembered only as a great boxing champion who became a preacher and a champion of his people. And I wouldn’t even mind if folks forgot how pretty I was.” Man, we miss you Ali. Rest in peace.

But sometimes an egg to the head is the only appropriate response, especially when 50 PEOPLE have just died in a grotesque massacre. The Australian right-wing senator Fraser Anning got the works when 17-year-old Will Connolly , a.k.a. Egg Boy, smashed a hard egg on his head at a Conservative National Party meeting in Melbourne. According to The Cut , Anning is known for his Islamophobic views and his sentiments came out in the most appalling way after the shooting at the Christchurch mosques last Friday that left 50 people dead and 50 injured. The attacks were carried out by an Australian-born White nationalist but instead of blaming this guy, Anning went on to blame Muslims. Yes, M U S L I M S! In a statement, he wrote: “The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place.” Again, it wasn’t the white supremacist killer’s fault, it was the Muslims, who pray at mosques like the ones that got attacked last week. Anning is lucky all he got was an egg to the head. He was in the middle of talking to the press at the CNP meeting on Saturday when Egg Boy executed one big wallop into Anning’s cranium. Mine happened at the predominately white elementary school I attended in the late 80s. All of us students were working on an art project with colored pencils we had to swap out for news ones at our teacher’s desk. I was really feeling myself that day because I had gotten my hair pressed over the weekend. It was laid, luxurious and smelling like fresh Pink Oil Lotion. I remember sitting at my desk, tapping those smooth pencils on the side my head as I pondered how to create my masterpiece. When I was done, I returned my pencils, feeling confident that my design was amazing. But a few minutes later that all changed when I heard someone loudly ask, “Why are these pencils so greasy?” My nemesis, who I will call Melissa, quickly told the class, “That’s because Kellee put them in her hair.” The room erupted in laughter. I was devastated. Having that straight hair made me feel like I had finally fit in with the Colleens and Beckies of the fourth grade. And yet in that instant, their cruelty had my facade crashing all the way down. It’s funny, because it’s been over a decade since the last time I’d even thought about that horrible day. But when I first heard Kelly Rowland’s recent song “Crown,” I was instantly brought back to that time. See, this collaboration with Dove is an empowering anthem aimed at young girls, reminding them that their hair is wonderful, glorious and amazing as is. And the video includes young girls from around the country who have been punished and even suspended for how they chose to rock their tresses. Seeing “Crown’s” images and hearing its lyrics made me wish I had something like this when I was younger, a singer to tell that ashamed little Black girl that her hair was “beautiful in every color. Long, short, straight or curly.” Now if I, a grown woman at 40-years-old, can be inspired by this, I can only imagine the impact it’s having on girls and young women who are coming into their own living in a world of the pressures of Instagram and Snapchat. This is why what Kelly is doing is so important. She is using her God-given gift to do her part to help shape the way girls see themselves and the world around them. And for little Black girls (and women), these messages are especially needed, given the complicated relationship we have with our hair and how often our bodies and hair are overpoliced at school, the workplace and beyond . In addition to the song, Kelly’s taking the message to the streets with community events aimed at bolstering girls’s self-esteem. Last month in downtown Los Angeles, Kelly co-hosted a Dove Self-Esteem Workshop with more than 30 girls from the Boys and Girls Club in attendance. The special workshop, which took place on Feb. 19, offered numerous confidence tips, an interactive conversation and ended with a runway show with the girls showing off the paper crowns they decorated. HelloBeautiful recently caught up with Kelly to discuss her personal story behind “Crown,” why representation matters and tips on overcoming our own hair issues.

That was the case on Friday morning after an MTA worker on the F train at the 169th Street station in Queens found a 31-year old man’s dead body in the train car. According to police : The individual was spotted by an MTA worker at 7:17 a.m. aboard a northbound “F” train at the 169th Street station in Jamaica Hills. [The man] was unconscious and unresponsive with no obvious trauma to his body when he was found. EMS declared the unidentified man dead at the scene. No word on what his actual cause of death was, as police are still investigating the incident. An autopsy report is currently being conducted. Damn.
