A study released by the USA Swimming Foundation revealed that 64 percent of Black children don’t know how to swim. Furthermore, 79 percent of children who come from low-income families are at risk of drowning because they lack swimming skills. Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel is aiming to change that narrative and save more lives. Manuel recently visited LeBron James ’ I Promise School in Akron, Ohio to talk with students about water safety and encourage them to learn how to swim, SwimSwam reported. Manuel’s visit was in partnership with the Akron Area YMCA and the USA Swimming Foundation. The foundation plans on providing students at the school with free swimming lessons in June 2019. After visiting the school, Manuel took to Instagram to share her excitement about making an impact in the lives of these children. “My heart is happy and filled with joy! So honored to visit I Promise School to share my experience and talk about water safety and the importance of learning to swim!” she posted. “Many thanks to @usaswimming foundation and @akronareaymca for partnering with me to provide swim lessons at a week long camp in June 2019 for every student! Working to change the statistic and give the life saving gift of swimming.” She has continually used her platform to spread awareness about the high drowning rate within the Black community and is working hard to reverse the alarming trend. “The most important thing is saving lives more than winning gold medals. Representation is important,” she told the Mercury News after competing in the Olympics. Manuel has broken barriers in the realm of sports. In 2016, she became the first Black woman to win an individual Olympic medal in swimming. Through her work with the USA Swimming Foundation, she’s inspiring Black and brown children to follow in her footsteps. SNL Spoofs R.Kelly Interview Many parodies of R. Kelly ‘s emotional interview with Gayle King have been made already, but SNL’s spoof was certainly one worth watching. Kenan Thompson took on the role of Kelly while Leslie Jones hilariously played Gayle in the show’s opening skit and they didn’t miss a beat. But that wasn’t the end of the R. Kelly talk on Saturday’s show. SNL cast member Pete Davidson gave his two cents on the pied piper’s recent antics saying “If you support the Catholic Church, isn’t that like the same thing as being a R. Kelly fan? I don’t really see a difference, only, like, one’s music is significantly better. Look, I’m not saying it’s an easy decision, I’m just saying, you don’t know how good someone’s music is until you find out they’re a pedophile. “And the reason everyone’s so upset is because R. Yep, the most tragic Kardashian is still reeling from the news that Tristan Thompson got a little more than friendly with Jordyn Woods , Kylie’s best friend. And it’s understandable. Even though Tristan has cheated on her before , at least twice, this one has to cut a little deeper, right? For one, he didn’t even care to creep on a girl that didn’t have close ties to the family. And for two, this is the first time that he’s cheated with someone she knows personally. It’s got to be a tough pill to swallow, so it makes sense that she’s having a tough time doing so. Khloe’s been a little less than graceful about all this — if you need an example, just look to the time that she tweeted at Jordyn, calling her a liar after her big interview, the one where she said that Tristan kissed her on the lips and that was all. “If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public,” Khloe wrote, “INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story.” “BTW,” she added, “You ARE the reason my family broke up!” Later she acknowledged that Tristan was the one to blame for tearing apart the family, but still, it was pretty harsh. But now, in a new statement, Khloe is asking everyone to just please be kind and sweet and loving to her, please. She made the statement on Instagram, and she kicked it off with a quote that read “Your perception of me is a reflection of you.” She then wrote “Be aware of your words. What you say does matter. Become more aware of the negative things you think and say.” “What does it actually accomplish by criticizing somebody else?” she asked. “Do you have any concept of how positively it can change someone’s day to receive a compliment or words of encouragement?” “Try to choose your words wisely. What you say to others says much more about you than it does about them.” She turned the comments off on the post, which was probably a good thing. Because judging by the way Twitter reacted, people had a lot of feelings about this statement. “That’s rich coming from her,” one person tweeted. “She’s always been nasty on the show and nasty on social media. She hides behind those inspirational bs pics.” “She has some nerve,” another person wrote. “Tried to ruin a young woman’s life and career. Over a man who didn’t want you. So back at ya. Stay off social media. Not your friend.” Yet another critic summed things up by saying “Sooooo she’s once again trying to blame others for the negative reaction she got for placing blame on Jordyn instead of her child’s father.” “Girl just stop already! Accept being rightfully drug for your scapegoating the way you accept Tristan back every time he cheats!” We hate to say it, but these people aren’t wrong. It really was bizarre of Khloe to write that big long thing about choosing your words wisely and being aware of negative things you say after what she said about Jordyn. Who, in case you forgot, is a 21-year-old girl that her boyfriend chose to pursue. Kelly will walk out of the Chicago jail where he’s been sitting since Wednesday after he was arrested for back child support. According to the AP , much like his last exit from confinement, “someone” has paid the $161,000 arrears on Kelly’s behalf. A spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Sophia Ansari, said that Robert would likely be released this afternoon, but she did not know the name of the person who paid the debt. Source: Jeff Hahne / Getty J. Cole And Bryson Tiller Sued By Producer G-Money J. Cole and Bryson Tiller are both have an infringement lawsuit on their hands. According to reports from The Blast , these two have been accused of stealing an instrumental created by a producer named G-Money. He claims that Cole and Tiller ripped off his 2013 record “Shawty So Cold” for their respective cuts of their songs “Déjà Vu” and “Exchange.” G-Money—whose legal name is Gary Frisby—made these same accusations several years ago when he uploaded a 2017 YouTube video in 2017, explaining the similarities between the records mentioned above. G-Money’s suit states Cole and Tiller’s songs feature “the same kick pattern, snare pattern, FX swell, and vocal strike.” and that “the substantial similarities between the three songs are of no coincidence.” Cole’s song “DejàVu” appeared on his 2016 album 4 Your Eyez Only, while Tiller’s “Exchange” was featured on his 2015 debut studio album Trapsoul . The producer is seeking now $150,000 per infringement, as well as an injunction that would prevent Cole and Tiller from continuing to profit off his material. Sony, RCA Records, and Roc Nation are all listed as co-defendants. The drama between the origins of these particular songs is nothing new. The producers of “Déjà Vu” and “Exchange” have also accused each other of stealing this particular beat in the past. Back in 2016, Vinylz and Boi-1da (the ones who produced “Déjà Vu”) accused Foreign Teck of ripping them off when he created “Exchange”–even though Tiller’s track was released months before Cole’s record.
