Source: Peter Cade / Getty Instagram Might Be Getting Rid Of Their Public Like Count Sometime Soon Some of us like to act like we don’t care about Instagram likes–and some of us actually, really don’t care. But others have built entire careers off the number of likes they can pull in per picture, so there’s definitely something important about the number under that little heart icon on all of our pictures. While the number of people who double tap certain photos seems pretty arbitrary, a lot of people are starting to think more and more that the attention we pay to social media can be harmful to our self-esteem, mental health, and other factors in our real life. That’s why Instagram could be getting rid of this feature for good. Instagram is expanding its test of a feature that hides their public “like” counts. The test began in Canada in back in April, and, starting on Wednesday, the test expanded to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. At this point, this is still just an experiment, and Instagram hasn’t said whether or not the feature will come to the US–but this gradual implementation into different areas could be the platform’s way of introducing a really big change. As for the tests going down in these 7 countries, Instagram users can opt out of the test, but it’s on by default. “Likes” aren’t shown in any public part of the app, including on public-facing grids or on the main feed, but the person who posted an image can still see the “like” count privately. We’re currently running a test that hides the total number of likes and video views for some people in the following countries: Australia Brazil Canada Ireland Italy Japan New Zealand pic.twitter.com/2OdzpIUBka — Instagram (@instagram) July 17, 2019 There have been a lot of positive and negative reactions to this newly implemented test run, with most of the concern being for the livelihood of Instagram’s influencers. After the initial idea was announced, Elle ran a story titled “Instagram Is Experimenting With Hiding Likes, Which Would Make It Much Harder to Be an Influencer,” which points out that brands care a lot more about hiring influencers with high engagement rates (a high percentage of likes compared to their follower count) on their posts than they do about how many followers someone has. On the contrary, marketing blogger Charles Tumotto Jackson argued that influencers would be fine — probably just pivoting to a higher reliance on Instagram Stories. That’s where they can use the swipe-up feature to link directly to purchasing pages, and “everything becomes measurable and even more transparent than it used to be.” Plus, like mentioned above, the influencers themselves can still see how many likes are being brought in, which is something they can show to a brand just like the back-end analytics already provides–proving once more that their business and livelihood probably won’t be affected by this change as much as people think. Apparently, the Ambassador to Sweden is doing some damage control in light of the bad PR the country is getting behind A$AP Rocky’s wrongful arrest and subsequent imprisonment. Karin Olofsdotter tells TMZ that Rocky has not been singled out and is being treated with TLC. Olofsdotter also says that despite the fact that the whole incident is on tape, Rocky may be charged with more serious crimes, perhaps not seen. She didn’t really elaborate on her ominous statement. She goes on to say that Black people should feel welcome because Sweden is “top ten in the world for rule of law” whatever the f**k THAT means… Yeah. Naw.
Pretty much every time we talk about them these days, we feel the need to mention the fact that Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are broke . It’s not that we’re fixated on the couple’s income, it’s just that their diminished finances seem to factor into every decision they make. For example, when Tori and Dean run a pyramid scheme , it’s not because they’ve always been passionate about the art of grifting. It’s because they’re broke. The McDermotts have been sued by numerous creditors , and Dean reportedly fell so far behind in his child support that a judge nearly threw him in jail last year. According to a new report from Radar Online, Tori and Dean were recently hit with a pair of tax liens in the amount of $707,487 and $184,390. Again, we say all of this not to shame the McDermotts, but rather to point out how bonkers it is that they want to have a sixth kid. Or more accurately, Tori wants to have a sixth kid, and Dean is understandably deadset against it. Spelling just welcomed her fifth child back in March, but apparently, she really has a thing for symmetry and she wants to balance out the brood by having three boys and three girls. “Dean loves kids, but he’s stunned she would even suggest it,” a source close to the situation tells Radar. “Dean thinks she needs to get her head on straight and work on supporting the family they already have,” the insider adds. Spelling has a role in the 90210 reboot coming to Fox in August. But it seems that project hasn’t turned out to be the cash cow she hoped it would be. “She thought she’d be raking it in like they did in the ’90s,” a source said. “She’s getting a fraction of that!” “Tori can’t command a big salary anymore,” another insider adds. “She’s only done reality TV in recent years, she’s older and her reputation isn’t the best.” But hey, Tori should focus on the silver lining here. One 90210 reboot already failed. If the cast was worthy of much larger salaries, they would probably demand more pay, which would probably prevent this project from happening at all! Earlier this month, 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? star Jay Smith was arrested and placed in ICE custody ahead of his deportation. The arrest was over violating a domestic violence protection order issued by his ex, Ashley Martson. Now, Ashley is clearing the air — and explaining that people who tried to “help” Jay fight deportation were lied to about what that money is for. “In regards to the GoFundMe…it was all lies,” Ashley Martson says to Celebuzz . “The GoFundMe was made to pay for a criminal defense attorney to fight a PFA violation,” she explains. That is “not an immigration lawyer as the GoFundMe story led people to believe.” The GoFundMe set up for Jay has also said that the PFA violation charges were dropped. But Ashley says that this is just another lie. “She specifically states the charges were dropped for the PFA on the GoFundMe,” Ashley points out. “That was a total lie.” “We had court today,” she shares. “Where a judge found Jay guilty of violating the PFA.” Being found guilty of something is very different from the charge being dropped. “Everyone who donated money paid for an attorney to try and fight charges of abusing a woman,” Ashley explains. “Aot to save Jay from deportation.” Deportation, she points out, has been a foregone conclusion for Jay for some time, now. Ashley says that the stripper who set up Jay’s GoFundMe is also the girl whom he is currently dating. She also says that they started dating back in January , which makes for a nauseating cheating timeline. “I just want this behind me,” Ashley expresses. “A PFA isn’t easy to acquire…” “If I did show the evidence people’s jaws would drop,” she promises. “It’s sad they don’t know the truth,” Ashley admits. “But I am not going to post it. It’s very disturbing.” Ashley doesn’t want to show the public evidence of domestic abuse — she showed it to the court, and that should be enough. “Jay will be deported,” Ashley predicts. “This takes quite some time.” “It could be a year until he will actually be deported,” she adds. “He had many chances to return home,” Ashley points out. “He knew he was here illegally.” Ashley explains that she wasn’t playing control games with Jay and the paperwork — he was the one toying with her heart. “As for people saying I held his status over his head, that’s not true,” Ashley emphasizes. She explains that “He knew I wasn’t willing to do the paperwork.” “Anyone who has a family and assets would never put all that on the line,” Ashley expresses. At least, not “for [someone] who used, abused, and constantly disrespected them.” Ashley has accused Jay of abuse. Alleged text messages shared by a 90 Day Fiance castmated appear to accuse Jay Smith of rape . His cheating was obnoxious, but it seems very clear that his toxic relationship with Ashley was much worse than viewers ever knew. Hopefully, the courts will do their job, and this will all be part of the past. In the mean time, we just wonder if any of these accusations will be touched upon at the Tell All special. We don’t know what to think, but I guess for baby True’s sake we are proud of Khloe’s selfless decision. And yeah, yeah love always wins. She and Tristan have remained somewhat civil with one another and are also doing a pretty good job at co-parenting True. Tristan even bought a house close to the Kardashian sister so he could spend more time with their daughter. Back in May Khloe discussed the situation saying, “It does f–king suck because our personal emotions are still in there.” “So those emotions can be heightened at times, but I do everything in my power –True is 1 and, like, a month old, so she doesn’t really know what’s happening,” she explained. “But to me she does know and she feels energy and I’m a big believer of that.” “I do everything in my power to not put just any sort of heavy energy around her,” the Kardashian continued. “Maybe that sounds a little too bohemian to some people,” Khloe finished.
