Boston Bombing Suspect CAPTURED: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Alive, in Custody After Standoff

The fugitive Boston Marathon bombing suspect is alive and in custody. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured just moments ago following a massive manhunt in Watertown, Mass. He had evaded capture since late Thursday night. The search for Tsarnaev focused on Watertown, a town just a few miles outside Boston. He was eventually discovered hiding in a boat in a residential yard. NBC News reports that the wanted Boston bombing suspect was found pinned down in the boat, the cover of which showed a tear and blood stain. Law enforcement sources said police had seen the suspect moving from a State Police helicopter, then confirmed the report with infrared technology. They were alerted to his presence by a Watertown resident who walked outside when frustrated officials lifted the lockdown order around 6 p.m. The resident saw the blood, and that some of the cords tying down the tarp over it were cut. He observed moment inside the boat, and called 911. Authorities then formed a perimeter around the Watertown property and are believed to have exchanged gunfire with the suspect while it was still daylight. Watch a raw video taken from a neighboring window of that exchange: Boston Bombing Suspect Shootout in Watertown It is not certain if the suspect fired back, but no officers were injured. As they moved in, they observed Dzhokhar Tsarnaev sit up, and after using “flash bang” stun grenades to disorient and distract him, took him into custody. Officers were acting with extreme caution because they remained concerned that the suspect might be wearing a suicide bomb vest, a source said. Within the last hour, NBC News reported that there was a fire in the boat the bombing suspect was hiding in and that the suspect was bleeding heavily. It was widely assumed by many in the press and on social media that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was dead, or soon would be as police surrounded him. Not the case. Tsarnaev, 19, was taken away via ambulance and has left the scene (see below, with boat, on Bing maps). State Police have confirmed he is alive. At a news conference, the Boston Police Chief described his condition as serious. Officials speculate that he was wounded early this morning by police – it is not clear how gravely – and has not had access to food or water since. As the thousands of federal, state and local law enforcement now depart, they are doing so to deafening applause and standing ovations from citizens. The U.S. Attorney’s office would not say if Tsarnaev has been Mirandized. The shootout comes after a violent night in which his brother and alleged co-conspirator, Tamerlan Tsarnaev , died in a separate firefight with police. The brothers are believed to have carried out Monday’s Marathon bombings, which killed three people and wounded more than 180 others, some gravely. Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, also suspected of killing an MIT police officer in his vehicle late Thursday, setting the events of Friday into motion. Authorities in Boston suspended all mass transit and warned close to a million people in the entire city and some of its suburbs to stay indoors today. After it was finally over, law enforcement earned the ultimate hat tip. Obama on Boston Bombing Suspect Arrest President Barack Obama praised authorities and ordinary Bostonians alike in a live press conference from the White House after the massive manhunt. “Tonight, our nation is in debt to the people of Boston,” Obama said, and went on to thank Bostonians as “citizens and partners” in the investigation. The president said this resolution wouldn’t have been possible without close coordination among federal, state and local law enforcement authorities. “They all worked as they should,” Obama said, “as a team.” After promising the victims of the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion that they weren’t forgotten either, he concluded, in the understatement of all time: “This has been been a tough week.” Story developing … UPDATE, 4/20, 7:00 a.m. : Tsarnaev remains in the hospital, the severity and nature of his condition unclear, according to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Patrick did say that he is “hoping very deeply he survives, because I’ve got a lot of questions and I know investigators have a lot of questions for him.”

Newtown Tragedy: Crazy Connecticut Shooter Adam Lanza Shot His Mother In The Face With Her Own Gun After She Taught Him How To Use Rifles

Adam Lanza learned to shoot with his mother, an avid gun collector. Adam Lanza Used Mother’s Gun For Newtown Murders Via RadarOnline reports: Now Nancy Lanza is dead, shot in the face by her 20-year-old son who used one of her own weapons to commit the murder, before heading off to Shady Hook Elementary School and slaughtering 26 more students and staff. “She said she would often go target shooting with her kids,” local business owner Dan Holmes told Reuters. He added that she once showed him a “high-end rifle” that she’d purchased. Nancy Lanza also has a son, Ryan, 24, from her marriage to Peter Lanza. Both Peter and Ryan have successful careers in the financial world. As RadarOnline.com has been reporting, Adam Lanza, who many sources have said was “troubled” or “disturbed,” shot his mother and then went to the school where she’d previously worked and killed 20 students and six staff before taking his own life. The weapons he took into the school were a Glock and a Sig Sauer, both semiautomatic hand guns, and a .223 Bushmaster, a military-style assault weapon. They were all legally purchased by and registered to Nancy Lanza, who reportedly owned at least two additional high power firearms. Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance said authorities are now “investigating the history of each and every weapon” that Adam Lanza carried to the scene of the rampage. Words cannot express the hurt of those families who were affected. Do you think the shooter would have done this horrific murder massacre had his mother not shared her obsession of guns with him?

Obama Comments on Pot, Says Feds Won’t Pursue Users in Colorado, Washington

President Barack Obama commented today on new state laws that legalized marijuana in Colorado and Washington saying the U.S. won’t pursue pot users there. Following the November votes in those states, the Justice Department reiterated that marijuana remains illegal under federal law, worrying legalization advocates. Obama had been vague on what the federal government’s specific response would be. In an interview with Barbara Walters Friday, however, he said: “It does not make sense from a prioritization point of view” to focus on drug use where it is now legal. “We’ve got bigger fish to fry ,” the newly-reelected president added. Marijuana activists were relieved at Obama’s comments, but still had many questions. They said even if individual users aren’t charged, marijuana producers and sellers could be subject to prosecution, civil forfeiture and other legal roadblocks. Obama also didn’t specifically address how the U.S. government would respond to state officials in Washington and Colorado and their efforts to implement this. Those officials are now tasked with coming up with regulations for legal pot sales. Obama simply told Walters that “recreational users” are not a “top priority.” “There’s some signal of hope,” Alison Holcomb, who led Washington’s legalization drive, said. “I think it’s correct that we ultimately we need a legislative resolution.” But Tom Angell of Marijuana Majority said Obama’s comment isn’t anything new, and he could use executive power to reclassify marijuana as a legal drug. In recent years, federal prosecutors haven’t targeted users in the 18 states and Washington, D.C. that allow people to use marijuana for medical reasons. However, agents have cracked down on many dispensaries in some of those states.   In any event, thanks to statewide ballot measures, possession of up to an ounce of marijuana is now legal for adults over 21 in both Washington and Colorado. Washington’s Liquor Control Board, which has been regulating alcohol for 78 years, now has a year to adopt rules for the fledgling pot industry. Ryan Lanza: Connecticut School Shooter Identified?

The alleged shooter in today’s tragic Connecticut school shooting was identified by NBC News as Ryan Lanza, 24, who reportedly also killed his father in Hoboken, N.J. However, reports now conflict as to whether this is truly the case; several sources believe his brother, 20-year-old Adam Lanza , was actually the shooter. WNBC says Lanza then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., an hour east of N.Y. City, where his mother was the kindergarten teacher. There, Lanza was said to have been responsible for the Connecticut school shooting that claimed 26 lives – 18 of them children – before he killed himself. The gunman opened fire after wanting through the front office, then walked to his mother’s classroom and opened fire, killing her and other students. Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police would not confirm the shooter’s identity, only saying that “the shooter is deceased inside the building.” Vance said the incident began after a 911 call from the school to Newtown Police at 9:41 a.m. The police immediately called State police and other local law enforcement for mutual aid. Vance said that when his officers arrived at the school, they made “immediate entry.” Vance would not give specific numbers on how many children and how many staff are dead and walked away when asked if that was the only shooter. There are reports that there is a person in custody but that has not been confirmed; Vance said there would be another press conference shortly. CNN first identified the killer as Ryan Lanza, but the New York Post claims Adam Lanza was responsible and that Ryan is being questioned by police, but not a suspect. Story developing …
