Bolitics: GOP Senator Puts Republican Party On Blast For Voter Suppression Antics – “I Won’t Defend Them Anymore”

GOP Senator Blasts Republican Party For Voter Suppression Practices The Republican party has long been engaging in voter suppression antics to keep minority and democratic voters in general from the polls and now one of their own is calling them out on their bullisht. Think Progress As his own party pushed through the Wisconsin Senate the latest in a series of measures to make it harder to vote in the state, Sen. Dale Schultz (R) blasted the efforts as “trying to suppress the vote” last week. Schultz, who is not seeking re-election and was the lone Republican to oppose a bill last week to limit the hours of early voting in every jurisdiction in the state, was a guest on The Devil’s Advocates radio program on Madison’s 92.1 FM last Wednesday. Asked why his party pushed the bill, Schultz responded, “I am not willing to defend them anymore. I’m just not and I’m embarrassed by this.” Schultz argued that this and dozens of similar bills before the Senate this were based on “mythology” that voter fraud is a serious concern: “I began this session thinking that there was some lack of faith in our voting process and we maybe needed to address it. But I have come to the conclusion that this is far less noble.” Noting that Republican President Dwight Eisenhower championed the 1957 civil rights law, Schultz said that he could not “find any real reason” for his party’s effort to make it harder to vote: SCHULTZ: It’s just, I think, sad when a political party — my political party — has so lost faith in its ideas that it’s pouring all of its energy into election mechanics. And again, I’m a guy who understands and appreciates what we should be doing in order to make sure every vote counts, every vote is legitimate. But that fact is, it ought to be abundantly clear to everybody in this state that there is no massive voter fraud. The only thing that we do have in this state is we have long lines of people who want to vote. And it seems to me that we should be doing everything we can to make it easier, to help these people get their votes counted. And that we should be pitching as political parties our ideas for improving things in the future, rather than mucking around in the mechanics and making it more confrontational at the voting sites and trying to suppress the vote. Schultz added that the suppression was “just plain wrong,” adding, “It is all predicated on some belief there is a massive fraud or irregularities, something my colleagues have been hot on the trail for three years and have failed miserably at demonstrating.” The GOP-controlled Assembly has already passed a similar bill. A 2011 study by the non-partisan Brennan Center found just seven cases of voter fraud in Wisconsin’s 2004 election, out of three million votes cast — a fraud rate of just 0.0002 percent. Can’t deny your shady practices when one of your own calls you out!

Not So Fast: Are Cops Covering Up FSU Quarterback Jameis Winston Sexual Assault Allegations?

First the victim couldn’t identify him and now this. Cops Possibly Covering Up Jameis Winston Sexual Assault Allegations This is smelling a little fishy. How can an allegation that can ruin a man’s career get this far without the witness being able to identify him? We hope this police cover up isn’t true. According to TMZ: There’s evidence Tallahassee cops tried to sweep the sexual assault investigation targeting Florida State University QB Jameis Winston under the rug to protect the team and its star player … and ONLY took aggressive steps after TMZ Sports started asking questions. Sources in the State Attorney’s Office tell us they never even knew about the investigation until Tuesday … JUST ONE DAY AFTER TMZ Sports began making calls to cops about the alleged assault. Our sources in the State Attorney’s Office say … it was highly unusual cops wouldn’t have filled them in about the case until this week. The sources say cops would have typically notified them when the investigation was completed, and Winston’s lawyer reportedly says cops told him it was completed in February. Now get this … TMZ Sports started calling police about the case on Monday. We were told someone would get back to us later that day, but there was radio silence for 2 days … we made repeated calls Tuesday and Wednesday and no one got back to us until late Wednesday afternoon. Sources in the State Attorney’s Office tell us … the timing — getting notified about the case months after it supposedly was closed and just a day after TMZ started calling — is suspicious. The State Attorney has now re-activated the case and sent it back to cops for further investigation. And there’s a twist — guess what would happen if Winston was even CHARGED with felony sexual assault — under FSU’s rules … he would be AUTOMATICALLY BENCHED … killing the team’s national championship hopes and his Heisman Trophy chances. People start acting shading when championships are on the line.

Making It Rain On Them Hoes: 26 Jerry “Scumbag” Sandusky Sex Abuse Victims Set To Receive $60 Million From Penn State

‘Bout time! Jerry Sandusky Sex Abuse Victims To Receive $60 Million From Penn State Although former pervy Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky is already serving up to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing multiple underaged boys, yet another wave of justice has been served as 26 of the victims are set to receive a massive payout courtesy of the University. via Fox News Penn State has announced that it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men to settle claims of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The university said it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year. The school said 23 deals are fully signed and three are agreements in principle. The school faces six other claims, and the university says it believes some do not have merit while others may produce settlements. “We hope this is another step forward in the healing process for those hurt by Mr. Sandusky, and another step forward for Penn State,” University President Rodney Erickson said in a statement released Monday. “We cannot undo what has been done, but we can and must do everything possible to learn from this and ensure it never happens again at Penn State.” No amount of monetary compensation can undo what these men endured, but $60 million surely can’t hurt either.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart: Friends with Benefits?!?

Kristen Stewart must be smelling really good these days. According to the new print edition of Life & Style , the Twilight Saga actress is getting it on once again with ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson. No, the pair are not back together. They are simply “friends with benefits,” an anonymous insider tells the tabloid. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart: Still Hooking Up? Stewart allegedly spent the night at Robert’s rental home on October 9, as her assistant supposedly picked her up the following morning – and noted that Kristen was beaming. The star apparently believes she can win Pattinson back if they spend enough naked time together, but the magazine claims Rob has a “different agenda.” He’s still dating Dylan Penn and he sees no romantic future with Kristen. But if she’s willing to hand over her milk without asking the actor to purchase the cow, he’s not about to turn this delicious drink down. It sounds like Kristen has to find a new man of her own… and it looks as if Life & Style needs to update its new Kim Kardashian story. She’s now obsessed with her ring finger, not with a stripper:
