By James Montgomery Russell Brand Photo: Getty Images Russell Brand is set to make his first public appearance since filing for divorce from Katy Perry when he takes the stage at New York’s Radio City Music Hall as part of an Amnesty International benefit. Brand will perform alongside Coldplay, Mumford & Sons, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Reggie Watts and others at Amnesty International’s Secret Policeman’s Ball, a long-running celebration of free speech and comedy, set for March 4 at the venerable NYC venue. The event marks the first time the ball has been held in the U.S. and also is Brand’s first scheduled appearance since he and Perry split in December; the “California Gurls” hitmaker has already made a pair of public appearances, first filming an Adidas commercial earlier this month and then returning to the stage for a concert in Jakarta, Indonesia . Check out photos of Russell and Katy from happier times. In a video promoting a then-upcoming comedy tour of American colleges — which was shot in mid-November, before the couple announced their split — Brand was seen jokingly removing his wedding ring . To date, he’s yet to announce any additional appearances. According to

Stephen Colbert, Herman Cain Stump For Votes in South Carolina

Newt, Schmewt. Mitt, Schmitt. Herman Cain dropped out of the presidential race months ago, but that won’t stop Stephen Colbert from rallying for him in advance of today’s primary. The Comedy Central host hit the campus of the College of Charleston Friday, joined by over 3,000 students, a marching band, cheerleaders, and Cain: Stephen Colbert-Herman Cain Rally Colbert, who toyed with running in the South Carolina GOP primary himself, was waylaid by the technicality of not getting his name on the ballot in time. Cain, who abandoned his bid in the fall after a brief surge to the top of the polls, happens to still be on the ballot, so Colbert threw his support to Cain . A gospel choir sang “This Little Light of Mine” before Colbert delivered an address at the “Rock Me Like a Herman Cain: South Cain-Olina Primary Rally.” “Do not sit down!” Colbert said. “There are no chairs. Partly for budgetary reasons, but mostly because I’ll take a standing ovation any way I can get it.” He zinged the frontrunner as such: “The only difference between Mitt Romney and a statue of Mitt Romney is that the statue never changes in position.” Before introducing Cain, he also zinged Rick Santorum. “A Her Man is not the same as a She Male,” Colbert said, according to reports, adding. “I don’t want to frighten any Rick Santorum supporters.” “I have believed in the message of Herman Cain for several days now. I want you to vote for Herman Cain because Herman Cain is me… and he possesses the one thing I don’t think I possibly will ever have: a place on the South Carolina ballot.” Fight on, Stephen and Herman. Fight on.

Stephen Colbert Wins Approval for SuperPAC

Stephen Colbert will not be our next President. But he may have a say who gets the job. The comedian/talk show host won approval today from the Federal Election Committee to form a SuperPAC, meaning Colbert can raise money and produce/buy television time for political advertisements. “Moments ago the Federal Election Committee made their ruling,” Colbert said ta crown below outside the FEC headquarters. “And ladies and gentlemen I’m sorry to say, we won!” Stephen Colbert Super PAC Announcement How did this come about? Former FEC Chairman Robert Lenhard said the ruling “means people can use their network’s resources to fund their own PAC ads without needing to report it on their network, on their show.” As for the host of The Colbert Report? Added Lenhard: “I think he’s going to have fun. But until he gets at least a million dollars he’s not going to run many ads outside of his show.” Colbert is already working on that, however. He solicited donations from fans during his speech, telling supporters: “I don’t know about you but I do not accept limits on my free speech, I don’t know about you but I do not accept the status quo. But I do accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.”

Jon Stewart Talks ‘Death To Smoochy’ Sequel At Comedy Awards

‘I am under the impression that movie sequels are based on the success of the previous movie,’ he quips to MTV News. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jon Stewart attends the 2011 Comedy Awards Photo: Charles Eshelman/ FilmMagic Sorry, Jon Stewart fans, but you’d better not expect to see the Emmy winner on the big screen again anytime soon. It seems the funnyman’s aspirations to return to acting are about the same as his ambitions to get into politics: nonexistent. MTV News caught up with Stewart on the red carpet of the Comedy Awards , which air on Comedy Central, VH1, Spike TV, Logo, CMT, TVLand and online at TheComedyAwards.com at 8 p.m. on Sunday (April 10). Stewart, who appeared on the silver screen in bit parts for films such as “Big Daddy,” “The Faculty” and “Half Baked” hasn’t acted in a movie in nearly a decade, when he appeared in the 2002 cult comedy “Death to Smoochy.” When asked if he would consider appearing in a follow-up to the dark flick, which was nothing short of a box-office bomb, the cable host quipped, “I am under the impression, and again I could be wrong about this, that movie sequels are based on the success of the previous movie. Now, I may be wrong!” However, Stewart — who cracked, “I think my character may have died at the end [of ‘Death to Smoochy’]. Or not. I don’t know” — did come up with an intriguing premise for a “Smoochy” prequel: “How did Smoochy get to be in the suit?” “I was never a very good actor. I can do myself like 10 percent madder or 10 percent happier,” he said of his acting skills. “I give props to the craft of acting, ’cause that’s not what I do. Or most comedians. Although there are some that are really good at it.” For now, Stewart will stay put doing what he is really good at — hosting “The Daily Show” — which won for Best Late Night Comedy Series at the Comedy Awards (during which Stephen Colbert hilariously ambushed Stewart’s acceptance speech). When faced with the prospect of 10 to 15 more years of doing the political satire, Stewart joked while pointing to himself, “Look what’s happened to me in the 10 years I’ve been doing it. … I’d be the crypt-keeper at a certain point.” Don’t miss the Comedy Awards at 8 p.m. Sunday night on Comedy Central, VH1, Spike TV, Logo, CMT, TVLand and online at TheComedyAwards.com . Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Hicks Cover "Friday"

Justin Bieber has sampled it . Nick Jonas has sang a few lyrics in concert. But no one has paid tribute to Rebecca Black’s “Friday” quite like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon. The talk show hosts, who have agreed to be best friends for six months, collaborated on the track during Fallon’s show last night. The performance (which included The Roots and Taylor Hicks) came after Colbert accepted Fallon’s challenge to cover the YouTube smash if Fallon’s audience came up with $26,000 to give to DonorsChoose.Org. Both sides came through with their ends of the deal, leading to the following hilarity: Stephen Colbert Sings “Friday”
