‘American Idol’ Fans Want Jennifer Lopez, Shania Twain As Judges

‘Idol’ followers also name Harry Connick Jr. and Steven Tyler as good picks to judge the 10th season. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by James Lascina Jennifer Lopez Photo: WireImage “American Idol” fans are very opinionated when it comes to the judging panel. Auditions for the 10th season are in full swing, however, as the Fox hit continues to comb the country for new talent, producers still have not confirmed a final judges lineup. Fans waiting to check out the American Idols Live! Tour in Los Angeles on Friday (August 13), offered suggestions about who should dish out feedback when the next season kicks off. “Gene Simmons would have been amazing,” George Garcia told MTV News. “Howard Stern too because Howard Stern [has] that mouth.” Garcia said that Jennifer Lopez, a much-rumored addition to the “Idol” panel, could have added “flavor, but I heard she was asking for outrageous stuff.” Diane Emerson is rooting for onetime mentor Harry Connick Jr. to return to the show as a permanent judge. “When he helped them be a mentor, he helped them so much, each and every one of them,” Emerson said. “He knew what he was talking about and I think he should become a judge.” Chloe Coleman is on Team J. Lo and said, “Jennifer Lopez would be interesting.” Kayla Erath said Lopez’ star power would mean an uptick in viewers. “I think it would be cool if J. Lo’s on it because she’s really famous and a lot more people will watch if another famous person is on it.” Sarah Garman said that she’s down to have Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler join the amateur talent behemoth “to add a little rock [to] it.” “That’d be hilarious,” Garman smiled. Her pal Jill Davy added, “Yeah, I think they need some rock and roll.” The ladies also said they were up for another buzzed-about singer, Shania Twain, to take a seat at the judges’ table. Garman mentioned that Shania would bring “a little country, a little twang,” to the competition. Davy also pointed out that Twain, who appeared as a guest judge on the ninth season, already has experience. “Shania’s done it before,” said Davy. Chloe Song said that the folks behind “Idol” would probably do well with any of the big-name celebs that have been mentioned as possible additions to the show. “I think Steven Tyler, Shania Twain and J. Lo are all really well-known singers so I think they’ll have really good thoughts and opinions on the ‘American Idol’ contestants,” Song said. Amanda Slater didn’t single out one person in particular but insisted that “Idol” needs someone with the same blunt approach to giving feedback as former judge Simon Cowell. “I think it needs to be someone that can be harsh like Simon,” Slater said. “Otherwise [the show is] too nice. Simon gave the real answers. He was tough but it was needed.” Danielle Slater said that whoever joins the panel next, needs to know what he or she is talking about. “[The show needs] somebody that’s good with music [and has] a lot of experience,” Danielle said. Kara DioGuardi Has Not Heard From ‘American Idol,’ Her Dad Says

U.S. Senate candidate Joe DioGuardi says his daughter is disappointed in the way she’s been treated. By James Montgomery Kara DioGuardi Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images Two weeks after she was rumored to have been fired from “American Idol,” Kara DioGuardi has still not spoken to anyone involved with the show, and feels that she has been mistreated by producers. At least, according to her dad, anyway. In an interview earlier this week with Albany, New York, TV show “Capital Tonight,” Joe DioGuardi — a former congressman now seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate — said that his daughter is disappointed by the way “Idol” has treated her, and that she remains in the dark about her future on the show. “Would you believe that she did not hear — and still has not heard — anything?” DioGuardi said. “She read [about her supposed firing] the way you and I did. Her disappointment is that that’s the way she’s being treated, and she feels that’s not proper.” Following fellow “Idol” judge Ellen DeGeneres’ announcement that she was leaving the show, reports began to surface that DioGuardi was out too. “Idol” has been conducting a lengthy search to replace one of them, as well as departed judge Simon Cowell. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is apparently in the mix, and, until earlier this week, so was singer/actress Jennifer Lopez , though producers reportedly dropped her from the list of potential replacements after her demands “got out of hand.” Joe DioGuardi chalks all that maneuvering up to “Idol” trying to generate some buzz for the fading show, and added that, despite her bitterness over the way she’s been handled, his daughter would still return to the judges’ table if she were asked. Maybe. “I think what they’re trying to do is create a lot of buzz, like they did with Paula Abdul. They’re trying to reformat the thing, but Kara has a very deep career in music … so she’ll be fine,” he said. “Would she want to do it another year? I think so, but she just got married, and she’d like to have a family, so maybe this is a good opening for her too. She has plenty of options. I think she will, at some point, confront them on that.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Report: Jennifer Lopez will NOT Judge American Idol

So much for those rumors. Following the near-confirmation that Jennifer Lopez would join the American Idol judging table next season, a new report says this will not be the case after all. Speaking to People , the insider blamed J. Lo’s dive-like behavior for the dissolution of a deal, saying: “Her demands got out of hand. Fox just had enough.” It’s true that Lopez is the only person to have the number-one album and number-one movie in the same week. It’s also true that was nine years ago and she’s spent more of the remaining time searching for relevancy. Perhaps she should check her ego at the Idol door. So, where does the show turn now? Steven Tyler is still a strong possibility, and Kara DioGuardi has not been officially let go yet. We’d love to see Harry Connick Jr. included, but no way the table doesn’t include at least one female. Returning producer Nigel Lythgoe says he’d love to bring back Paula Abdul, but she’s under contract with CBS. Are you disappointed by this news? Do you wanna see Tyler and Lopez on board?

Why Jennifer Lopez Was All Wrong for American Idol, and Courtney Love is Just Right

Though it had been widely assumed that American Idol’s revamped judging panel would feature Randy Jackson and new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, People is reporting that Lopez’s “demands got out of hand,” and now she’s out of the mix. Might this actually be a good thing? After all, while Lopez and Tyler represented a casting coup for the on-the-ropes series, there’s ample reason to believe that those big names may have actually worked against them — though if producers are dead-set on picking an A-lister, I have just the icon in mind.

‘American Idol’ Alum Chris Daughtry Weighs In On Judging Changes

‘Huge Aerosmith fan’ is intrigued by possibility of Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez joining panel. By MTV News staff Chris Daughtry at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images Chris Daughtry comes from a simpler reality-show era; he was on “American Idol” in 2006, when the show had its three founding judges — Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson — passing judgment on the contestants that crossed their path. Now, of course, Abdul is long gone, and Cowell has followed her out the door . Meanwhile, recent addition Ellen DeGeneres left the show after just one season, and rumors are thick that Kara DioGuardi, a judge since 2009, might head for the exit as well . Though the “Idol” landscape has changed drastically since Daughtry’s time on its stage, the multiplatinum rocker is very much looking forward to seeing what Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez , who are rumored to be joining the panel for the show’s 10th season, will bring to the table.

Steven Tyler’s Rumored ‘American Idol’ Gig Surprises Joe Perry

Aerosmith guitarist says Tyler’s judging job is a ‘done deal,’ but the rocker didn’t give the band a heads-up. By Mawuse Ziegbe Joe Perry and Steven Tyler Photo: Kevin Kane/WireImage Aerosmith’s Joe Perry said he has been in the dark about bandmate Steven Tyler’s alleged “American Idol” plans and that he only heard the news when rumors of the singer’s new gig hit the Web. “I found out on the Internet, like the rest of the world,” Perry told The Boston Herald. “There was an Aerosmith afterparty at Studio 54 after the [Las] Vegas show — which none of us in the band knew anything about — and he said some stuff there,” Perry said. “I mean, this is no small thing.” Perry also revealed that he’s under the impression that Tyler has already inked a contract with “Idol.” The guitarist said he would have appreciated a heads-up, since the decision has repercussions for the rest of Aerosmith. “I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this,” Perry said. “Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?” Perry’s concerns suggest that Tyler will indeed take a seat at the judges’ table when the 10th season of “Idol” kicks off. Rumors have been swirling about the rocker’s move to the talent competition since Ellen DeGeneres announced her departure from the show after one season. Singer/dancer/actress Jennifer Lopez is another celebrity name that has been thrown around as a possible addition to the show. The fate of the remaining judges — Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson, the only remaining judge who has been dishing out feedback since the show debuted in 2002 — still hangs in the balance. “Idol” reps offered a “no comment” when contacted by MTV News regarding reports that DioGuardi had been ousted from the show. Even before DeGeneres’ recent exit, Fox had not confirmed a replacement for straight-talking judge Simon Cowell , who announced in January that he was abdicating his post after the ninth season. However, with the return of executive producer Nigel Lythgoe , the “Idol” judge lineup may firm up soon. Lythgoe has been vocal about his dream critic team and said he would push to get stars such as Elton John and Usher to give pointers on “Idol.” Lythgoe has also said he would welcome back onetime judge Paula Abdul. Abdul, however, has a deal with CBS for her own dance show. Lythgoe said he’s open to bringing Tyler’s wild style to the show. “He has come through that whole rock-and-roll circus,” Lythgoe recently told Variety. “Why wouldn’t you want a legend there? You never know what he’s going to say. That, as a TV producer, you’re interested in.” What do you think of Steven Tyler joining “American Idol”? Sound off in the comments below!
