An exasperated Jon Stewart made a brief but powerful return to “The Daily Show” to shame congress for the inaction that caused the Zadroga Act — a key healthcare bill for 9/11 first responders — to expire earlier this year.
Fans of Jon Stewart need not worry that they won’t see him as much since he left The Daily Show in August (having hosted since 1999). According to TVLine , Stewart inked a four-year production deal with HBO that includes a “short-form digital content” focused on current events through Stewart’s “unique prism,” which he will both produce and star in. The deal also includes “a first-look option for other film and TV” projects. “Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on The Daily Show,” HBO president Michael Lombardo said in a statement. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.” Stewart also released a statement on the deal. “I’m so excited to be working with Richard [Plepler], Michael and the entire HBO family,” he said. “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.” This isn’t the first time Stewart has worked with HBO; he had a recurring role on the Larry Sanders Show , hosted George Carlin: 40 Years of Comedy , as well as his own stand-up show, Jon Stewart: Unleavened . Kristen Stewart attended the Venice Film Festival’s premiere of her movie ‘Equals’ in a sparkly grey dress and wound up barefoot before the night was over.
Jon Stewart had a lot of explaining to do on Monday Night Raw this week. Following the stunning SummerSlam result in which Stewart slammed John Cena with a chair, enabling Seth Rollings to retain the Heavyweight Title and win the U.S. Title, fans had one question for the former Daily Show host yesterday: John Cena Confront Jon Stewart WHY?!? This is why, Stewart told a captive audience: Because, with a victory, Cena would have tied Ric Flair as a 16-time world champion and Stewart did not believe Cena was in The Nature Boy’s legendary class. He would not allow such an accomplishment to take place on his “watch.” Okay , Cena basically replied, you did what you had to do. Now this is what I have to do. And, with that, Cena gave Stewart his finishing move, The Attitude Adjustment, leaving the comedian writhing in pain on the mat. Check out the awesome confrontation above and compare Stewart below to past celebrities who have become a part of the WWE universe. Is there even a comparison?!? Y’all already know white guilt only goes so far right? Even for the most liberal folks — sometimes they just can’t take the truth! Via NY Daily News reports : Wyatt Cenac, who left the night time political show in 2012, appeared on Marc Maron’s podcast WTF, where he shared a story about the host attacking him. The conversation began when Maron asked the writer if he and Stewart got along and he simply answered, “naw.” The two didn’t see eye-to-eye after Fox News started attacking the Daily Show for Stewart’s impression of Herman Cain. The host came up with the idea to do a segment called “everything I do is racist,” and Cenac told him he thought it was a bad idea. Instead of hearing Cenac out, Stewart apparently got really defensive. “I remember he was like, ‘What are you trying to say? There’s a tone in your voice,’” he explained. “I was like, ‘There’s no tone, it bothered me.’ And I was like, ‘It sounded like Kingfish.’ Then he got upset, and he stood up, and he was just like, ‘F–k off, I’m done with you.’” The comedian stormed out of the room and although their dispute didn’t get “settled” according to Cenac he did eventually tell him he “shouldn’t have yelled.” This seems pretty mild considering how passionate ish can get in the writers room but we’re disappointed in Jon Stewart for losing his cool and not respecting Wyatt’s opinion. Oh and is it just us, or is Wyatt kinda fine??? APImages/Charles Sykes
LeAnn Edmonds Horton, the former wife of Jim Edmonds, died this week after losing her battle to cancer, their teenage daughter Hayley confirms. Jim, a former MLB All-Star, is now married to Meghan King Edmonds, as fans who watch The Real Housewives of Orange County online know. “Early this morning I lost the most important person in my life,” Hayley Edmonds (right, with LeAnn) wrote alongside a photo of her late mother. “I’m so blessed to have had these past 17 years with you.” “But that will never be enough for me. I can’t imagine my life without you and I never imagined this day would come.” “You were an inspiration to everyone who knew you and I will aspire to be everything you were.” “You truly lived life to the fullest and were such a fighter.” “The memories we made will forever be instilled in me and I’ll never forget the good times we had. You were not only my mom, but my best friend.” “Thank you for everything you’ve thought me and for the wisdom you’ve given me. I will never ever stop loving you.” “Life won’t be easy without you but I know you will be with me every step of the way. Rest in peace mommy, I love you with all my heart.” Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 10 Episode 4 Online The high school student’s emotional post was preceded by an update about her ailing mom’s condition last week: “Never miss the opportunity to tell your mom you love her,” Hayley pleaded with her Instagram followers. “No matter how much you do, it will never be enough.” “Stay strong momma, I love you with all I have.” Meghan King Edmonds’ relationship with Hayley – and the challenges of being a stepmom in the midst of LeAnn’s health – has been documented. It’s a complicated situation to be sure, even before it took a tragic turn. Meghan, who wed Jim last October, took to Twitter to mourn LeAnn. “Today is a sad day. Pls send positive vibes this way!” she tweeted. R.I.P. View Slideshow: Celebrities We Lost in 2015
On August 6, Jon Stewart’s tenure as host of The Daily Show will come to an end. Though a comic by trade, over the past 16 years, Stewart has become one of the most trusted names in news, and when he announced his retirement back in February, it came as a shock to many left-leaning comedy fans and political junkies. While Stewart’s time on The Daily Show may have earned him the undying respect of his peers and a place among the most beloved American humorists in recent history, his reputation took a major hit yesterday as a result of comments made by former costar Wyatt Cenac. Appearing on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, Cenac stated that he initially idolized Stewart and viewed him as something of a father figure. That all changed once the two of them began working together. It seems that at one point, Cenac expressed his discomfort with the racial undertones in Stewart’s impersonation of then-presidential candidate Herman Cain. According to Cenac, Stewart was decidedly unhappy with the criticism: “[Stewart] got incredibly defensive,” Cenac said “I remember he was like, ‘What are you trying to say? There’s a tone in your voice.’ I was like, ‘There’s no tone. It bothered me.'” “And he stood up and he was just like, “Fuck off. I’m done with you.” And he just started screaming that to me. And he screamed it a few times. “Fuck off! I’m done with you.” And he stormed out. And I didn’t know if I had been fired.” It turns out Cenac was not fired, but his working relationship with Stewart was forever damaged: “I was shaking, and I just sat there by myself on the bleachers and f–king cried,” Cenac told Maron “And it’s a sad thing. That’s how I feel. That’s how I feel in this job. I feel alone.” Yet another indication that you should never meet – let alone work for – your idols. Trevor Noah will take over for Stewart on September 28.
