[1]Maus, Art Spiegelman’s graphic novel series where Nazis are cats and Jewish people are mice (and the Swedish are inexplicably reindeer) is still the only comic book to have won a Pulitzer. As the story progresses, the art in Maus gets pretty meta — Mr. Spiegelman inserts himself into the narrative by interviewing his Holocaust-surviving father, who is a mouse, (as is Mr. Spiegelman) but at certain… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : The New York Observer Discovery Date : 21/09/2011 22:01 Number of articles : 2
Is your casual booty call starting to feel like the beginning stages of an actual relationship? Here are 20 signs to look out for: 1. They text you before 8 p.m. 2. They ask how your presentation/test/interview/trial went. 3. They call you. On the phone. 4. You allow yourself to be photographed with them. 5. They spend the night, you both sleep in and then get brunch the next day. 6. The two of you are hanging out. Sober. Not hungover. 7. You kiss as a greeting (not just as a pathway to sex or out of obligation in the morning). 8. They invite you out to the bar with their friends before they’re ready to leave. 9. They loaned you a book. (You don’t loan a booty call a book.) 10. They accidentally call you “baby” (not in bed). GET THE REST HERE! The Ultimate “Wish I Didn’t Invite Him To Stay Over” Story Myth: Men Who Still Live At Home Are Wack
A new survey of African-American youth has found that almost half report considerable pressure to have sex. The results, which were derived from the answers of 1,500 youth ages 13-21, will be featured in the October issue of ESSENCE magazine, out on newsstands today. “I was elated that Essence, a secular Black magazine, choose to even run the story along with the data,” said the founder of BlackGenocide.org Rev. Clenard Childress Jr. “The multiple images and lyrics and instruction [young African-Americans’] minds are exposed to can only result in ill advised sexual behavior.” New Book Tells Black Women:“Don’t Marry Down. Marry Out.” “The result of the pressure has resulted in Black young women getting abortions disproportionately, which accounts for the data stating (a plummeting birth rate),” he told LifeSiteNews. Released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, the survey found that 47% of respondents, including 21% of those 13-15, said they had been pressured to go further sexually than they wanted to. Among African-American males, 54% said they felt pressured by their friends to have sex. Respondents said that they believe that the TV shows and movies they watch paint a negative picture of African-American youth. For example, 72% believe that the media sends the message that African-American females’ most important quality is their sex appeal, and 64% believe that the media sends the message that it is okay for African-American males to cheat in relationships. “Sunday’s Best” LeAndria Johnson: “My Story Is Not Like Your Story” [EXCLUSIVE]
Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks attached to update of 1976’s ‘Sparkle.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jordin Sparks Photo: Getty Images We can add two more films to the “classics” getting the reboot treatment in Hollywood: New versions of 1991’s “Point Break” and 1976’s “Sparkle” are reportedly in the works. TheWrap.com reports that Alcon Entertainment is currently working on a reimagining of surfer-heist flick “Point Break,” which starred Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah who goes under cover and hangs 10 with a group of surfing criminals, led by Patrick Swayze. The new film will also include an extreme sport, but no word on whether it will still be surfing. Producer Michael DeLuca explained that the Kathryn Bigelow-directed original was “a Zen meditation on testosterone fueled action and manhood in the late 20th century” that they want to re-create for the 21st century. In that other remake news, according to Variety, Sony Pictures is readying a remake of “Sparkle,” with Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston (who will also executive produce) rumored to star. Mike Epps has also been attached to the project, with production slated to begin next month. The original film’s plot, inspired by the story of the Supremes, revolved around three Harlem sisters who become a successful 1950s girl group and experience the pitfalls of fame. The new movie will tell the story of an aspiring singer (Sparks) in 1968 Detroit. This will be Houston’s first big screen film since 1996’s “The Preacher’s Wife.” This is Sparks’ feature film debut. Two powerful organizations are far from pleased about recent news that Mel Gibson was cast in a movie about biblical Jewish hero Judah Maccabee. The Anti-Defamation League has demanded that the producers pull Gibson off the flick immediately, sending a statement directed at Warner Bros. Why are they fired up? Probably this incident , among others. “As a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty, Judah Maccabee deserves better,” the group said of Mel. “It would be a travesty to have the story of the Maccabees told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views.” Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, also had some harsh words about Gibson’s role in the upcoming film. The Jewish leader tells TMZ that casting Mel Gibson as a Jewish hero is “like having a white supremacist portray Martin Luther King Jr.” For those unaware, Judah, the brave warrior who drove enemies of Judaism out of Jerusalem, is a central figure in the story of Hannukah. No comment yet from Mel’s camp or WB. [Photo: WENN.com]

Rachel Uchitel is preparing to file suit against the New York Post for quotes about her dead fiance she says she didn’t make that ran in Page Six Magazine . The paper is standing by its story, however. Uchitel hired Daniel Horowitz and Marty Garbus (known for repping Oksana Grigorieva) to sue the Post for insinuating she’s glad her fiance died during 9/11. An article in the Post’s Page Six Magazine includes alleged statements from Rachel such as “I believe Andy was meant to die because he was too good.” “I’m glad I didn’t get to see any flaws that time brings on everyone. I would [have become] a fat housewife with three kids in Sands Port, Long Island.” In a letter to the Post , Horowitz claims the story conveys “a disastrously false impression” of Rachel and is “degrading and extraordinarily inaccurate.” Rachel Uchitel says it’s a hit piece and the reporter went in not liking her. Horowitz also has words for the author of the piece:”You created a work of miserable and demeaning fiction.
