Oprah Half-Sister to Tabloids: No Thanks!

We’re not entirely sure if Oprah Winfrey being united with her half-sister really qualifies as the ” miracle of miracles ,” as the talk show host hyped over the weekend. But there is something truly remarkable about the discovery made by Oprah just prior to Thanksgiving: Patricia, the woman who spent years tracking down her birth mother and who learned in 2007 that she was related to one of the richest people on the planet, had multiple opportunities to sell this story to the tabloids. She refused. Oprah Winfrey, Half-Sister “All Patricia wanted was the truth,” an insider tells Pop Eater “She wasn’t interested in selling her story, even for a million dollars. She just wanted to know who she was, where she came from and if she had any brothers or sisters. She had no idea when she started this search she would end up being Oprah Winfrey’s half-sister.” Sources say the “starting point” for an interview with Patricia would be one million dollars. But the woman who, appropriately, first met Oprah on Thanksgiving Day, is showing no signs that she’s interested. Concludes this insider: “No one knows what the future holds for the family. Patricia doesn’t want a dime from Oprah and certainly wasn’t going to take money from a tabloid whose offers are now pouring in.

‘Toy Story 3’ Filmmakers Rendered ‘Speechless’ By Oscar Nominations

‘I feel like I’ve been blasted to infinity and beyond,’ director Lee Unkrich says. By Terri Schwartz “Toy Story 3” Photo: Disney/Pixar Pixar and Disney continued to set the standard for quality animation with this year’s “Toy Story 3,” and so it was no surprise when the film was nominated for five Academy Awards Tuesday morning (January 25): Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, Original Song, Achievement in Sound Editing and Adapted Screenplay. It’s the second year in a row that a Pixar/Disney film has been nominated in both the Best Picture and Best Animated Feature categories, and director Lee Unkrich is feeling the love. “It’s an incredible honor to be nominated by the Academy. When we began making the first ‘Toy Story’ nearly 16 years ago, we never could have imagined the journey on which these films, and these characters, would take us,” he said in a statement. “For ‘Toy Story 3’ to be recognized by the Academy as not only one of the best animated films of the year, but also as one of the 10 best pictures of the year, is both humbling and overwhelming. I’m speechless — I feel like I’ve been blasted to infinity and beyond.” MTV News caught up with Unkrich on the phone to talk to him about the nomination, which he called “completely mind-blowing.” He said he was so prepped for the nominations announcement this morning that he set his alarm and watched the live stream of the announcements with his wife and 13-year-old daughter. Unkrich said he was disappointed that the Best Animated Feature was limited to only three films, because there were many other great animated films this year that weren’t acknowledged. ” ‘Tangled’ didn’t get nominated and I was really rooting for them, they really deserved to be in there. And I’m disappointed for those guys because they made a really beautiful film that was definitely Oscar-worthy,” Unkrich said. This is the first time a “Toy Story” film has been nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar because the first two installments were released in 1995 and 1999, and the category was not created until 2001. The “Toy Story” films have never won an Oscar before. At least “Toy Story 3” seems like a shoe-in for Best Animated Feature. It’s also the second time a “Toy Story” film has been nominated for its screenplay. The first “Toy Story” was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, with Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel Cohen, Alec Sokolow, John Lasseter, Pete Docter and Joe Ranft getting story and writing credits. For “Toy Story 3,” it is Oscar-winner Michael Arndt who is credited with writing the screenplay for the film, and he couldn’t be more pleased. Considering it’s only his second writing credit (after “Little Miss Sunshine”), he certainly has a right to be. “I’ve spent my whole life being inspired and moved by the work of the screenwriters of the Academy, so to be recognized by the Writers Branch this morning is deeply gratifying and profoundly humbling,” Arndt said in a statement. “While I wish I could hog all the credit for myself, I would have gone nowhere and done nothing without the collective brilliance of the entire creative community at Pixar, who have always maintained that ‘story comes first’ and who are crazy enough to actually believe it.” In addition to the four nominations for “Toy Story 3,” the Pixar short that premiered before the film, “Day & Night,” also received a nomination, for Best Animated Short. This is director Teddy Newton’s second directing credit. He is best known for his voice acting in Pixar films (he was Chatter Telephone in “Toy Story 3”). “I thank the Academy for this extraordinary recognition. Creating ‘Day & Night’ with the high-quality team of artists and technicians within Pixar was truly a non-stop sensation of positive energy for me. I was constantly amazed by the crew’s fortitude to push through challenges and inspire each other with their ingenuity,” Newton said in a statement. “I#39;m overwhelmed. I#39;m just happy. It#39;s like a movie; it#39;s all brand new to me,” Carlina White, 23, told New York#39;s Daily News as she arrived in New York from Atlanta to see her birth parents. Her mother, Joy White, was just as incredulous. “Is it really happening?” she asked. “I always dreamed this.” It sounds like a movie – even to the young woman at the heart of the story. Justin Bieber Shoots His Return To ‘CSI’

Singer tweeted a photo of himself in makeup for February 17 episode. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber appears on “CSI” Photo: CBS If you were concerned that Justin Bieber snapped and got into a scrap with an overly aggressive photographer, relax, it’s just makeup. Images of Bieber with a pretty impressive shiner started zooming around the Internet on Tuesday, but the picture is just a still from the set of “CSI,” which the singer will revisit next month. Bieber, who first appeared on the show in September, tweeted the photo of his makeup-caked black eye on Tuesday along with the message “On set … where? Let’s just say I’m back to my evil ways. #badass.” According to Entertainment Weekly, after getting good notices his first time around, Bieber is set to reprise his role as troubled teen Jason McCann in an upcoming February 17 episode of the crime procedural titled “Targets of Obsession.” The show will air during February sweeps (go figure), six days after Justin’s movie debut in his 3-D biopic/concert film, “Never Say Never,” which opens in theaters on February 11. In his first “CSI” appearance, which was Bieber’s acting debut, he portrayed a young kid whose older brother had been killed at the end of the previous season. Cops suspected that Bieber’s character took out his anger over his brother’s death on authority by planting bombs. In his second go ’round, currently being filmed, show regular Nick (George Eads) tips Jason off that he might be in “imminent danger.” Last year, “CSI” executive producer Carol Mendelsohn told MTV News that the teen star would be returning to the show, explaining how the September episode left unanswered questions about his character. “At the end of the episode, we’re left with the question: Is Jason a good kid stuck in a bad situation or is Jason a bad kid hiding behind his cuteness?” Mendelsohn said. “You can see why Justin was such a perfect choice to play this role. … It’s an explosive story.” While fans will surely cheer his return to TV, they recently learned that Bieber will not be the subject of an episode of “Glee,” as was widely rumored. After stories began to swirl that Bieber Fever was slated to sweep McKinley High, Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of the Fox hit, cleared things up, explaining the role that the teen star’s music would play in an upcoming episode. Murphy maintained that unlike other superstars whose repertories have received “Glee” overhauls — like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna — Bieber’s current list of hits isn’t long enough to sustain an entire hour of New Directions-helmed numbers. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval.” Related Artists Justin Bieber
