B.o.B, Lil Wayne Rhyme Beneath ‘Strange Clouds’ In Video

Song ‘really [lets] people know we’re back,’ Bobby Ray says of title track off upcoming LP. By Steven Roberts B.o.B. Photo: MTV News The video for B.o.B ‘s “Strange Clouds” dropped Monday (December 5) morning; the Motion Family-directed clip features Bobby Ray and Weezy F. rhyming in a field beneath a sky of — you guessed it — strange clouds. The song serves as the first single off B.o.B’s sophomore effort of the same name. But when MTV News recently caught up with B.o.B, he revealed that the Dr. Luke track was originally just something he wanted to rhyme on. “I was actually in mixtape mode when I heard it, so I just really wanted to go in on the beat. A hook came to me, and it kind of started to stick out to me the more and more I listened to it, and it ended up being the title track for the album,” said B.o.B. “I wanted to get an artist on it who could really bring it even more to life, the whole concept of ‘Strange Clouds.’ ” He said that “Strange Clouds” could mean a variety of things from lacunosus clouds to unidentified flying objects to puffs of the most exotic of plants. He wanted to get an artist on it who could really bring that idea to life, and who better than Lil Wayne? “We brought the record to him, we turned it around real quick, and when we put our final ears to it, we were like, ‘Yeah, this is the first one to come out and really let people know we’re back.’ ” B.o.B said the album’s sound was a fusion of a lot of different things. He said his music has danced around in a lot of genres, whether pop, rock or hip-hop, but ultimately he wants listeners to feel good about it. “Really, at the end of the day, music is supposed to make you feel good, and at the same time, I’m an MC at the end of the day also, so there’s a lot more of that in the album,” he said. Young Jeezy On Gucci Mane Rift: ‘It Was Nothing’

Jeezy tells ‘RapFix Live’ the whole thing started because he couldn’t perform with Gucc while recovering from throat surgery. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Young Jeezy Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News It was all just a misunderstanding. After Young Jeezy appeared on Gucci Mane ‘s 2005 track “Icy” but later refused to perform the record with Gucc, things between the two rappers got tense. When the Snowman appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” he revealed that what Gucci Mane didn’t know was it was Jeezy’s secret throat surgery that kept him from performing the record. “When I met homey, he was just a guy hanging at the studio and he was fan. And I took to him and ’cause I just liked the way he got down, he was always cool, he was always excited,” Jeezy said of how he and Gucci first met. Jeezy — who was the hottest street rapper at the time — agreed to do “Icy” with Gucci Mane and even helped put the record together, he said. But soon after, he lost his voice, so when a request to perform the song came through to Jeezy’s people, he declined without giving a reason. “Around that time is when I lost my voice,” Jeezy revealed to Sway. “But nobody knew that I lost my voice but, like, maybe four of my homeboys. Def Jam didn’t know, nobody knew. “I think they got offended, but he didn’t know that I lost my voice and just had surgery and was laying on a deathbed not knowing whether or not I would be able to speak again.” It is important to note that the two MCs have since called a truce . But before they made a peaceful resolution, Jeezy and Gucci traded subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle barbs on record. The drama even spilled onto the streets . “It just started then and turned into something else,” Jeezy said. “I just felt like he was getting disrespectful about the situation because he wasn’t being a businessman about it and understanding.” Jeezy, who is set to drop his fourth album, TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition, on December 20, told Sway that he believed the media made it out to be more than it was. “It’s over now. But for what it’s worth, it was nothing,” he said. In August, Gucci Mane had a similar stance when he sat with Sway on “RapFix Live.” “On the strength of [the fact that] anything could have happened between not just me and him [but] between our camps, we just came to a sit-down of just respecting the fact that somebody can get hurt, and it ain’t going to be us,” Gucci said of the truce. “That’s what made us do that.” Don’t expect a future collaboration between the former foes, however. “I think we should just stay away from that totally,” Jeezy said. B.o.B Calls Strange Clouds ‘Culmination’ Of His Work

‘That’s really why I’m so excited about it,’ Bobby Ray tells MTV News of upcoming LP. By Steven Roberts B.o.B Photo: MTV News Early this week, B.o.B dropped his mixtape E.P.I.C (Every Play Is Crucial), seemingly out of nowhere. It featured verses from giants including Eminem , Yasiin Bey (a.k.a. Mos Def) and T.I. and underground all-stars like Future, 2 Chainz (a.k.a. Tity Boi) and Trae tha Truth. But one thing it certainly features is B.o.B showing he can spit with anybody and everybody. Bob was criticized for his 2010 breakthrough debut, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, because many felt it was a departure from the underground mixtapes that got him noticed in the first place. B.o.B has always shrugged off any criticism, but when MTV News caught up with him on Tuesday evening, he said that his latest mixtape and his follow-up album, Strange Clouds, show a “refined” B.o.B. ” Strange Clouds as well as the mixtape, I feel really like everything is refined — like the lyrics, the beats, the production, the hook, the vocal performance. I really put a lot of creative energy and time into developing the songs and the music. You know, after experiencing what it’s like to put out an album, and tour it — I learned a lot from that and that helped a lot in this process of making this Strange Clouds album.” One thing he hoped to do on Strange Clouds was to inject the hip-hop elements of his mixtapes into the album. One track on E.P.I.C. that is a reflection of B.o.B’s boom, bap, boom, boom, bap roots is aptly named “Boom Bap,” featuring T.I. and Yasiin Bey. B.o.B said he talked to T.I. about doing a straight lyrical showcase, no hook, like a cipher. B.o.B didn’t want to go too far left, either. He said he was well aware of his different fanbases and he hoped to marry them. “There are people who are fans of the mixtape stuff, people who are fans of just, you know, me playing the guitar, rocking out, fans of me singing, rapping, and fans of ‘Nothin’ on You’ and ‘Airplanes’ who just know The Adventures of Bobby Ray material,” Bobby Ray said. “But this next album is like a culmination of everything combined and I feel like that’s really why I’m so excited about it and eager to put it out because I’m just ready to get back on the court with it.” Related Artists B.o.B

T.I./B.o.B Joint Album ‘Started As A Joke’

‘It seems to be taking form in a very organic way,’ Bobby Ray tells MTV News. By Rob Markman T.I. has definitely been making up for lost time. Since being released from prison in September, the King of the South has been working overtime in the studio releasing his own singles (“I’m Flexin’,” “Pyro”) and remixes of other artists’ songs (The Throne’s “N—as in Paris,” 2Chainz’s “Spend It”). For his next album, Trouble Man, Tip said he’s already recorded 45 songs. And then there is his collaboration album with B.o.B . During an October interview with Shade 45’s “Sway in the Morning,” the Grand Hustle CEO said he was “flirting” with the idea of doing a tag-team album with Bobby Ray . On the set of his “Strange Clouds” video, B.o.B. confirmed that the two are in the studio. “The joint album, it actually started as a joke,” B.o.B told MTV News. “Tip would always refer to me as the Martian, and in one of his lyrics, he said, ‘It’s the man and the Martian,’ and we said, ‘Man that could be an album title.’ “We kinda just played around with it. But it seems to be taking form in a very organic way,” he added. Just because they are recording together doesn’t mean things are finalized. In his October interview, Tip wouldn’t fully commit. “Even this, this is a conversation that we had, this is an idea,” he said about the possibility of a B.o.B joint album. “It’s not set in stone. It’s not concrete as of yet.” Before that, fans will most likely see solo LPs from each of the MCs. On Monday, B.o.B. released his mixtape E.P.I.C. (Every Play Is Crucial), and it’s safe to assume his sophomore LP, Strange Clouds, is next. “It’s all about the fusion between the outer limits and the inner limits, from the sky to the ground; it’s everything in between, above and below, so Strange Clouds, for me, it’s my ‘Twilight Zone,’ ” he told MTV News of his upcoming Adventures of Bobby Ray follow-up. Yelawolf Recruits YouTube Fan For Radioactive Debut

Mona Moua’s video lands her on rapper’s ‘Write Your Name.’ By Rob Markman Yelawolf Photo: MTV News It’s not every day an artist takes a fan and gives them a feature on an album, but with Radioactive, Yelawolf did just that, placing singer Mona Moua on his debut LP. After Moua failed to get into a sold-out Minneapolis show, she went home and recorded “Ode to Yelawolf” and uploaded the original composition to YouTube . “It was actually really good,” Yela told MTV News about the song and video Moua uploaded back in April. “Her melody was good, she could play guitar. … I was a bit blown away by how talented she was.” In the video, Moua strums the guitar while singing about her disappointment after not getting into the sold-out show. “No Trunk Muzik for me,” she sang before integrating Yela song titles like “Mixing Up the Medicine” and “Pop the Trunk” into the rest of her sullen lyrics. Little did Moua know that the heartfelt display would land her on ‘Wolf’s “Write Your Name” on Radioactive, which dropped last week. “We had a record called ‘Write Your Name’ about the unsung hero, and it just so happened that her tone, it just fit perfectly,” he said, crediting the idea to Ghet-O-Vision head Kawan “KP” Prather. “KP had the idea to bring her out and put her on the hook and she killed it.” Produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, “Write Your Name” mixes the drums from Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” with a new, melancholy piano melody. On the track, Yelawolf uses his small-town come-up from Gadsden, Alabama, to exemplify how much more untapped talent may be waiting in the wings. Moua sings the all-too-perfect hook, “I’ll write your name across the sky and take away the stars, ’cause you light up the night/ You’re as high as the moon, when you’re here with me/ That’s why I’m gonna write your name for the world to see.” Have you heard “Write Your Name” yet? B.o.B Drops E.P.I.C. Mixtape

Mixtape Daily looks at free Strange Clouds preview, E.P.I.C. (Every Play is Crucial), featuring Eminem, T.I. and Lil Wayne. By Rob Markman B.o.B Photo: Michael Roman/FilmMagic Mixtape Daily: Main Pick Mixtape : E.P.I.C. (Every Play is Crucial) Headliner : B.o.B Representing : Atlanta Real Spit : B.o.B is out of this world. From his underground 2009 single “I’ll Be in the Sky” to his Hayley Williams-assisted hit “Airplanes,” Bobby Ray has always fancied himself a different type of rap artist, and on his next LP, things will get stranger. His upcoming sophomore effort, Strange Clouds, aims to stretch the boundaries of music. “It’s all about the fusion between the outer limits and the inner limits, from the sky to the ground; it’s everything in between, above and below, so Strange Clouds, for me, it’s my ‘Twilight Zone,’ ” he told Mixtape Daily on the video set for his “Strange Clouds” single. But before B.o.B embarks on that particular mission, he gave fans a taste of what they can expect from the new album Monday (November 28) when he dropped his newest mixtape, E.P.I.C. (Every Play is Crucial) on DatPiff . During the course of 15 tracks, Bob serves an array of tracks that showcase his multitude of musical abilities. He’s spitting straight bars alongside Meek Mill and Playboy Tre on the title track, then experimenting with melody on “What Are We Doing.” The hard-as-nails “Boom Bap” is a hip-hop purist’s dream: The drum-driven track unites the multiplatinum-selling T.I. with underground hero Mos Def, and together with Bobby Ray, they go in without need for a hook, MC’ing just for the sake of MC’ing. Things get even better on “Things Get Worse” with Eminem, as Slim Shady brings the ATLien into his world of hysterical celeb-bashing. On “Welcome to the Jungle,” B.o.B tackles the Throne’s kinetic instrumental from their much-talked-about album. “Perfect Symetry” unites the “Nothin’ on You” star with Atlanta’s 2011 street king 2 Chainz — and then, of course, there is Lil Wayne on “Strange Clouds.” What a preview. B.o.B Reveals Album Title, Strange Clouds

The follow-up to his breakout The Adventures of Bobby Ray is tentatively due in ‘early spring.’ By James Montgomery B.o.B Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images B.o.B teamed up with Lil Wayne on the brand-new “Strange Clouds,” and apparently he liked the result so much he’s decided to name his album after it. During an interview with Atlanta radio station V-103 , B.o.B confirmed that the follow-up to his massive The Adventures of Bobby Ray album would, in fact, be called Strange Clouds. The singer spoke about the lead-off single, saying it just seemed like the logical choice to launch the next phase of his career. ” ‘Strange Clouds’ … is the first single off my sophomore album, [which is] actually titled Strange Clouds, ” he told V-103. “Wayne actually got on it pretty quick. It was a quick turnaround. We were kind of debating on it, man, but we just felt like this is the song that should go first. I feel really strong about it and I like to take my time with music. “When you do a song with somebody, it’s basically like you’re starting a business with that person … it creates a lot of opportunities,” he continued. “I’m glad that he blessed me with a verse, man, and it’s the first single off my album, so I’m excited about it.” B.o.B added that Strange Clouds would hit stores in “early spring,” adding that, “I want it to be sooner!” Earlier this year, he told MTV News that fans should expect “some surprises” on the new disc and subsequently called it “a real special project.” And though the title track features Weezy, producer Jim Jonsin recently let it be known that folks expecting a sequel to The Adventures of Bobby Ray — and the sundry of features it, uh, featured — might be disappointed, because Strange Clouds is very much a B.o.B project. “What Bob wanted to do was go into the lab himself and spend his time creating what he wanted his album to have, the direction he wanted,” Jonsin told MTV News. “So we’re waiting on him to come back with that house that he’s built so we can go ahead and put all the fixtures in and try to help with it.” Related Artists B.o.B
