With spring in the air on the East Coast — and a little bit of booze; it is St. Patrick’s Day after all — what better time to be reminded that the multiplex will soon be overflowing with summer blockbusters. Of all the studios shopping their wares, Disney seems the most excited to kick-off summertime, as they’ve begun a full court press for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides . Earlier this week, that meant the release of the Johnny Depp-centric character poster; now, it’s time for Penelope Cruz to get into the spotlight.

Rosamund Pike on Barney’s Version and Pass-Out-Drunk First Dates

There’s a scene in Barney’s Version in which Barney Panofsky (Paul Giamatti) prepares for his first date with the woman who will eventually become his third wife by downing a few cocktails to kill the nerves. Not surprisingly, by the time Barney shows up for his date, he’s visibly sauced. Coincidentally, Rosamund Pike, who plays the woman who will eventually become Barney’s third wife, had a similar experience with a drunken suitor that, oddly, ended exactly the same way.

‘I Don’t Know What the Hell I’m Doing,’ and 8 Other Epiphanies From Sir Anthony Hopkins

Holding court for an assembly of journalists yesterday in Los Angeles, Sir Anthony Hopkins gamely talked up his upcoming thriller The Rite , in which he plays a seasoned Jesuit exorcist mentoring a skeptical seminary student (newcomer Colin O’D onoghue) in Rome. Sitting across from the Oscar-winning actor, one thing was clear: At 73, Sir Anthony has, to borrow from Plato, achieved a great sense of calm and freedom. Like, the freedom to do whatever the hell he wants, whether it’s starring last year in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger , getting hairy in the uber flop The Wolfman , making a special appearance in low-budget B-movies about female cage fighters , or playing a Norse god in this summer’s big-budget Marvel adaptation Thor .

Star Magazine typically concocts quotes from made-up sources in order to create the appearance of a scandal. In its latest issue, however, the tabloid actually cites a real person… while still creating the appearance of a scandal. Model Kristen Stephenson-Pino, an extra in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides , tells the publication that Depp called her into his trailer on set and said: “You’re by far the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.’ It was one-on-one. I was in there for a few hours.” Did Depp, who has two kids with Vanessa Paradis, actually make a move? No. He simply offered up some alleged, playful, flirty banter. “I was like, ‘I’ll take you and Orlando Bloom! That’s the only way you can get me,’” Stephenson-Pino said. “He starts laughing and goes, ‘Honey, no, no no, I don’t share with anybody. You either get me or me, and that’s it.’” Wow. What a total and complete scumbag, huh?
