Shawty Lo’s New Mixtape A Love Letter To His ‘Hood

B.H.F. (Bankhead Forever) shows ‘I’m still in the streets,’ G-Unit signee tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Shawty Lo Photo: MTV News Mixtape Daily Main Pick Mixtape : B.H.F. (Bankhead Forever) Headliner : Shawty Lo Representing : Atlanta Real Spit : Things have changed. In June 2009, Bankhead, Atlanta, rapper Shawty Lo saw his native Bowen Homes housing project torn down in a citywide effort to remove all of the city’s public housing. To pay homage to his home, the newly signed G-Unit rapper released B.H.F. (Bankhead Forever). “They changed the name of my street to Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, and they tore my projects down, Bowen Homes, which is in Bankhead,” Shawty Lo told MTV News. “But I’m still in the streets. Even though they done did this and they done did that, it’s still B.H.F.: Bankhead Forever. B.H.F. could mean ‘Bowen Home Family,’ but it’s just letting the streets know we’ll never die.” The 18-track mixtape, hosted by DJ Greg Street, starts out with an intro by 50 Cent then goes straight into a string of trap-house anthems like “I Know,” “Heavy Weight” and “Attention” featuring Tity Boi. Lo, most known for his 2008 single “Dey Know,” has been unapologetically street throughout his entire career, and despite his new record deal with 50 Cent, it doesn’t look like he will be switching up anytime soon. For the non-believers, B.H.F. is the proof. “The streets getting the same Shawty Lo, the same street, ’cause I ain’t gonna change; it’s gonna be me,” he said. Joints to Check For

Remember the Toronto Premiere of ‘Never Say…

Remember the Toronto Premiere of ‘Never Say Never’? Well that was probably the most stressful weekend of my life! It all started the day before my history exam when Kiss 92.5 announced they would be giving out tickets to the Toronto premiere of Never Say Never. I actually called in like 3485743890239854 times. It would ring sometimes, but most of the time it was just busy. Toronto Belieber’s are unreal; let’s just leave it at that. I had the week off school because I had just finished exams, and literally my entire break was spent working as hard as I possibly could to get tickets to the premiere. Kiss 92.5 was on in my house and every time they announced they were giving them away, all my friends and family would call in, but no luck. That’s when Muchmusic announced if you wanted tickets to see Bieber on Much that weekend come to the show on Tuesday. We went and it turned out they only had only 20 tickets, so they drew names from a hat, and neither of us won. I bawled my eyes out on the train ride home, knowing that the premiere was tomorrow and I didn’t have tickets. We tried to look on the bright side; there’s going to be other opportunities to see Justin, but we were really upset. Then Kiss announced that we still had 1 chance left. We had to go down to Dundas Square tomorrow with a sign involving Kiss 92.5 & Justin Bieber and the best signs would get tickets. That night, we actually didn’t sleep. We worked all night on a poster that was 3 bristol boards long, it had pop outs, glitter and a lot of hard work went into it. We woke up at 10am the next day, and with barley any sleep it was back on the train down to Toronto for that one shot at tickets to the premiere. We got to Dundas Square and it was packed with girls with AMAZING signs. We were just chilling in the -20 degree weather when this man came up to us and said “Don’t freak out, just meet me in AMC”. I was like, “Did we win” and he said “Yes, but don’t freak out”. I was flipping out in the calmest way possible as we made our way to the AMC across the street. There was a lady there who gave us our tickets and showed up wear to go. While we were in line we saw Chaz, Ryan and Mitch. It was so sweet. Then we got into the theatre and met Dan Kanter. He’s amazing. Then everyone had to go back to there seats and JUSTIN BIEBER came out and introduced Jon M Chu, and thanked us all for coming. They surprised Justin and brought out DRAKE. We couldn’t believe this was all happening less then 20 feet away from us. Justin then took his seat and they played the movie. Justin was sitting like only 5 rows away from us. Shoutout to Jon Chu on directing an incredible movie, that I will watch over and over again. IT WAS AMAZING. I would be watching the movie, and I would just turn to my friend and be like HOLY CRAP, Justin is right there! Ahhh! In the end it all worked out for us. We didn’t get to meet Justin, but the day was amazing. We went from not having tickets the day of the premiere to being there, with Justin and the rest of his amazing crew. Thank you Kiss 92.5 for the amazing experience! I’ll never forget it. -Jenny Zies @jennyzies Read the original here:   Remember the Toronto Premiere of ‘Never Say…

James ‘Jimmy Henchman’ Rosemond Enters Not Guilty Plea

Hip-hop manager vows to fight federal drug charges after his arrest on Tuesday. By Rob Markman James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond (file) Photo: Soul Brother/FilmMagic James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond is not backing down from the federal drug charges he’s facing. After his arrest on Tuesday, the hip-hop manager, who once counted Game as a client, pleaded not guilty to witness tampering, obstruction of justice and intentionally conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, The Wall Street Journal reported. The not guilty plea came as expected. In an interview with MTV News on Tuesday, Rosemond’s attorney, Jeffery Lichtman, said his client was ready to take on the Feds. “These charges obviously aren’t surprising, we’ve been anticipating them for years now,” he said. “But they’re built on the backs of people that have lied and cheated, have been threatened, have been bribed by the government. Anything to get Jimmy Rosemond, but all of this is going to be exposed. We’ve been waiting a long time for our day in court — we finally have it.” Rosemond has been on the lam since warrants were issued for his arrest on May 17. On Tuesday afternoon, Henchman was arrested after he led US Marshals and DEA agents on a foot chase across several Manhattan blocks before he was apprehended on 21st Street and Park Avenue South. A complaint obtained by MTV News from the DEA revealed detailed accounts of a bi-coastal drug-trafficking operation that the government alleges Rosemond headed. The complaint was built with the help of incarcerated members of Rosemond’s supposed drug-ring who are now cooperating with the government in hopes of receiving a reduced sentence. The complaint also suggests that Henchman ran the operation, shipping cocaine and cash through express mail couriers, using his company Czar Entertainment as a front. The document is filled with transcripts of recorded phone conversations, intercepted emails and informant accounts charging that Rosemond converted drug proceeds into postal money orders in an intricate scheme to legitimize the funds. Last week, Henchman’s name came up in connection with two other crimes. Dexter Isaac, an inmate who is also believed to be cooperating with the government against Rosemond, admitted to his involvement in the 1994 Quad Studio robbery and shooting of Tupac Shakur . Isaac claims that he was paid $2,500 by Henchman to undertake the heist. As that news broke, the Smoking Gun reported that two men tied to Rosemond have been charged with the 2009 murder of known G-Unit associate Lowell “Lodi Mack” Fletcher. Through it all, Lichtman maintains his client’s innocence, pointing out that much of the government’s evidence is centered on the accounts of known criminals looking to get a break. “When you got witnesses like that against you, it can make anybody paranoid and believe that they won’t be getting a fair trial,” Lichtman said. “When the case starts, we’ll be ready to go.” Check back with MTV News for updates as this story continues to develop.

Britney Spears Fights Cyborg Paparazzi In ‘I Wanna Go’ Video

Chris Marrs Piliero-directed clip features ‘Weeds’ actor Guillermo Diaz. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in her “I Wanna Go” music video Photo: Jive Britney Spears proved her comedic chops on the small screen in her cameo on “How I Met Your Mother,” and now she’s once again displaying her funny bone in the video for “I Wanna Go,” which dropped Wednesday (June 22). Like he did with Ke$ha before, director Chris Marrs Piliero makes off-kilter pop culture references and pokes fun at the idea of the sexy pop star. There’s a number of Spears-related references, including a polka dot bikini top as an homage, perhaps, to Minnie Mouse, her skull-wearing Mickey Mouse ears T-shirt and a movie theater marquee that reads “Crossroads 2: Cross Harder.” Spears has touched on her relationship with the media in the past, but perhaps not with this much humor or self-deprecation. The video opens with a press conference, where reporters ask the superstar crazy questions such as, “Is it true you banned junk food, smiles, candy, sunshine and laughter from your Femme Fatale Tour?” The answer: Yes, obviously. “Can you confirm reports that you’re pregnant with Brad Pitt’s love child?” The answer: “That is false: It’s quintuplets.” Eventually annoyed by the onslaught of increasingly dumb questions, Britney declares, “F— you” to the reporters in the room. The only person who passes the test is “Weeds” and “Half Baked” star Guillermo Diaz, who is hanging out, wearing a hat that only the Burger King could love. She then dashes out onto the streets in her Avril Lavigne-worthy, pop-punk princess finest. It seems Britney has decided to live life on her own terms. She grabs the bum of an autograph-seeking fan. Then, she flashes a group of men, and as a cop tries to arrest her, she has her way with him right there on the street. Britney just doesn’t care anymore, and why should she? She’s finally having fun. Britney displays the sass and charm fans fell in love with a decade ago during performance shots, where she flirts with the camera, her eyes as big and wide as her smile. Fans are back with her as she makes her way around town and, of course, the paparazzi have found her. For one photographer, she gives an impromptu fashion shoot before smashing his camera. And when she finds herself surrounded by more of his cronies, she takes them out one by one with any singer’s best weapon: her microphone. There’s a surprising turn, however: As the mic slams itself against the photogs, pulling the skin off their bodies, it reveals that they are cyborgs, much to Brit’s dismay. So, what’s a girl to do? She’s rescued by Guillermo, who drives her through the desert. She dances in the car, wearing only a bikini top and miniskirt. And just when she thinks she’s safe, it’s revealed that he too is a cyborg. Can’t Brit ever catch a break? The video returns to the press conference, where the pop star awakes from a daydream and reveals, “Guillermo, I had the strangest dream.” “I love dreams,” he tells her. “And seashells,” he says, placing several in her hand. “Come on, let’s get out of here.” But, is Britney truly safe with Guillermo? In an homage to the final frame of Michael Jackson’s classic “Thriller” video, the clip closes with Diaz turning his head toward the camera to reveal his red, glowing robot eyes. James ‘Jimmy Henchman’ Rosemond Arrested By Feds

DEA confirms to MTV News that Czar Entertainment honcho was apprehended and arraigned on drug charges in New York City. By Rob Markman Jimmy Henchman Photo: Soul Brother/FilmMagic The manhunt for hip-hop music executive James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond ended Tuesday afternoon (June 21), the DEA confirmed to MTV News. Henchman, who ran the Czar Entertainment management company overseeing the careers of artists like the Game, was arrested in New York City and charged with heading a cocaine trafficking ring. Rosemond has been on the lam since warrants were issued for his arrest on May 17. On Tuesday afternoon, the onetime music manager noticed federal agents as he walked out of the W Hotel in Union Square, according to the New York Post. Henchman tried to evade US Marshals and DEA agents by taking off on foot, but was apprehended and arrested on 21st Street and Park Avenue South. Rosemond was then arraigned in Brooklyn on conspiracy to distribute in excess of five kilograms of cocaine; he is being held without bail, a DEA representative told MTV News. According to Rosemond’s lawyer, Jeffery Lichtman, Henchman and his defense team are ready. “These charges obviously aren’t surprising, we’ve been anticipating them for years now,” Lichtman told MTV News on Tuesday. “But they’re built on the backs of people that have lied and cheated, have been threatened, have been bribed by the government,” he added. “Anything to get Jimmy Rosemond, but all of this is going to be exposed. We’ve been waiting a long time for our day in court — we finally have it.” Through the DEA, MTV News has obtained a copy of the complaint and affidavit stemming from Rosemond’s arrest warrant. In it, there are details of Henchman’s alleged drug ring, which is said to have shipped cocaine under accounts belonging to Czar Entertainment from California to New York in “road cases” typically used to transport musical equipment. Vacuum-sealed bags and mustard were also used to conceal the smell from drug-sniffing dogs. Two “high-ranking members” of Rosemond’s alleged organization (referred to in the complaint as “CW-1” and “CW-2”) helped the DEA in their investigation. The document does confirm that both men agreed to cooperate with the government after their respective arrests in the “hope of receiving a reduced sentence.” It is also noted in the complaint that while on the run, Henchman avoided the use of cell phones and suggested to one of the members of his organization that he should go into hiding. “N—-r stay low, move like you on the run right now ’cause that is what I’m doing n—-r, trying to get some ID, some new paperwork, all that sh– right now,” Rosemond said during a telephone conversation recorded by agents. Dexter Isaac, who is believed to be cooperating with the government in its case against Henchman, told AllHipHop.com that he was paid $2,500 by Rosemond to rob Tupac Shakur at Quad Studios in a November 1994 incident that resulted in the near-fatal shooting of the rapper, two years before his death in 1996. Lichtman told the New York Daily News that Isaac’s claim was a “flat-out lie.” “When you got witnesses like that against you, it can make anybody paranoid and believe that they won’t be getting a fair trial,” Lichtman said about his client. “When the case starts, we’ll be ready to go.” Check back with MTV News for updates as this story continues to develop.
