Every bluefin tuna caught in California waters is believed to be contaminated with radiation that originated in Fukushima, according to a new report. Yes, every single fish tested. In May of 2012, the Wall Street Journal reported on a Stanford University study by Daniel Madigan, a marine ecologist who was quoted as saying: “The tuna packaged it up (the radiation) and brought it across the ocean … we were surprised to see it at all and even more surprised to see it in every one.” Another member of the study group added that “absolutely every one” of the tuna had comparable concentrations of cesium 134 and cesium 137. That was over a year ago, when the fish had relatively little exposure to the radioactive waste being dumped into the ocean following the 2011 meltdown. Since that time, the flow of radioactive contaminants has continued unabated, and fish born into it have been swimming in contaminants for all of their lives. Radioactive cesium doesn’t sink to the bottom, so fish swim through it and ingest it through their gills or by eating organisms that have already ingested it. It is a compound that does occur naturally in nature, however, the levels of cesium found in the tuna in 2012 had levels 3 percent higher than is usual. Measurements for this year haven’t been made available, but it is known that a person can experience cell damage due to radiation of the cesium particles. Due to this, effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and bleeding may occur. When the exposure lasts a long time, people may even lose consciousness. Coma or even death may then follow. How serious the effects are depends upon the resistance of individual persons and the duration of exposure. Nevertheless … you might not want to eat bluefin tuna in California.

Mary Jane Jarman, a mom jogging with her eight-month-old son in a stroller in New York City, fought off a would-be attacker with a bike pump last Friday. Mom Fights Off Attacker With Bike Pump The 33-year-old was jogging on the Hudson River Greenway near Manhattan’s Henry Hudson Parkway and 190th Street when she was accosted. A strange man jumped out from a behind a wall holding a broken glass bottle, she recalled, and menacingly telling her to “Come here, come here.” Jarman began to run for her life, making it about 100 yards down the path before he grabbed her in a bear hug and took her down to the ground. Her baby stroller was knocked over in the process, but Jarman fought back. After hitting him over the head with the tire pump, she sent him packing. “I started screaming, trying to attract attention. He came at me,” said Jarman, after speaking to police detectives at the 34th Precinct station house. Jarman said she managed to struggle free and reached for a hand-held bike pump she had in the stroller, bashing the attacker over the head 2-3 times. Hard, it sounds like. “I kept hitting him,” she said, showing the shattered pieces of what remained of the black and silver metal bike pump, which she brings “to defend myself.” The mother of two said her first thought was to protect her 8-month old son, Thane, who lay silent in the stroller beside her during the terrifying attack. “I was protecting him with my life,” she said. Jarman said the man “didn’t try to get my phone” or anything else. “His sole intent was to hurt me.” Jarman said after she beat the man repeatedly, he released her and retreated, telling her in broken English, “I’m really sorry, I’m sick,” she said. The man fled, leaving her shaken and alone. She said she called 911 repeatedly, but the calls kept dropping in the thickly wooded area. She finally flagged down a biker on the path, who helped her. Police said they are searching for the attacker, while the jogging enthisiast and mom says the incident left her afraid to use the path home again. “I’m going to take a different route,” Jarman said . Some pepper spray might be a good idea too.

You’re not in a bathroom.” Friends believe Cyrus was so out in the open that she was taking molly during her VMA performance, where she twerked all over Robin Thicke during a duet of his summer anthem “Blurred Lines.” Others noticed Cyrus’ constant sticking out of her white-coated tongue as a telltale sign: People who take molly often become dehydrated, leaving them with a dry mouth. Cyrus’ performance drew widespread criticism, even from 67-year-old Cher, who said the young singer’s appearance was abysmal. “It just wasn’t done well. She can’t dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn’t great, one cheek was hanging out,” Cher critiqued. “And, chick, don’t stick out your tongue if it’s coated.” While Cyrus’ rep didn’t get back to us last night, the singer previously responded to the controversy about her VMA performance, comparing the public outcry to the Trayvon Martin tragedy. “It’s the media riling up the people, rather than people riling up the media,” she said. “And what makes me kind of sick is, Trayvon Martin’s trial didn’t happen more than two months ago. Joy Covey, who helped take Amazon public and to new heights as the retailer’s chief financial officer, died Wednesday when her bicycle collided with a van. She was 50. San Francisco’s KGO-TV reports : “According to the California Highway Patrol, Covey was riding downhill on Skyline Boulevard [in San Mateo County] when she crashed into a Mazda minivan.” “The minivan, driven by a 22-year-old Fremont man, was heading uphill and made a left turn onto Elk Tree Road directly in front of Covey.” “Covey crashed into the right side of the van and was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP officials say the driver is cooperating with their investigation.” Covey, who graduated from college and passed her CPA exam at age 19, was ranked No. 28 on Fortune ‘s Most Powerful Women in Business list. After dropping out of high school because she was bored, Fortune wrote, Covey used her 173 IQ “to pass California’s high school-equivalency exam.” After working at the accounting firm Arthur Young, she headed to Harvard to earn an MBA and a law degree. Eventually she linked up with Amazon. The Times adds that “Amazon went public on May 14, 1997, with an initial public offering price of $18. Shares closed [Wednesday] at a record $312.06. In recent years, Covey was working as the treasurer for an environmental group. Covey also established the Beagle Foundation, which gives funding to environmental causes.”

A man in Wales was arrested for getting naked and attempting to have sex with a Land Rover. Even more incredible? He goes by the self-proclaimed nickname “Hotcock.” Daniel Cooper, 24, was convicted of of indecent exposure. Hotcock will not serve jail time, but has been banned from going outside between 7 p.m.-7 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the next three months. Man Has Sex With Land Rover The order stems from an August 18 incident where Cooper was caught on surveillance video getting naked and then grinding against a blue 4×4 Land Rover Discovery. Cooper later told the court that he was so drunk at the time, he did not even remember the auto-erotic encounter (that was just too easy) until he saw the video. The Land Rover was not available for comment at press time. Sounds like it was truly an epic night for Hotcock, apparently. Earlier in the evening, he was seen bumping and grinding on the counter of a kebab shop and simulating sex on the floor with his pants around his ankles. He was also seen walking down the street with no pants. Cooper, a father of three, also urinated in the streets. When he was arrested for nailing the Land Rover, he told police officers that he rarely drank. His attorney, Gary Harvey, told the court that his client was mortified by his actions and that his behavior toward cars and kebab counters was out of character. “He is a responsible family man who looks after the children while his wife went out to work” he said, the International Business Times reported. He was also fined $134 for the infraction. Besides the sentencing and fine, Cooper can expect to hear about his drunken behavior for the rest of his life. “Daniel will never live this down,” one of his pals said. “He is not a pretty sight when naked. We all felt sorry for the Land Rover and hope it wasn’t offended.”
