MTVNews’ 2010 Hottest Breakthrough MC is set to drop the highly anticipated debut project on Atlantic Records. Last year, after operating independently and raising his profile through a series of mixtapes, Wiz announced on our “RapFix Live” online show that he was joining the label, which is also home to T.I., Paramore and Kid Rock. The lanky lyricist has a well-known affection for marijuana and, recently, he and fellow smoker Snoop Dogg joined forces for the forthcoming movie and soundtrack project “High School.” Still, his love of all things green has led to some trouble for the MC. Last November, Wiz was arrested and booked on drug charges after police apprehended the “Black and Yellow” star following a performance in North Carolina. Despite his hazy appeal, Wiz has defended his music’s merit beyond the stoner aesthetic. “It’s not just the weed. The music is awesome,” he told The Source magazine . “The music is great. Just from the beats that I pick, I’m a fan of my producers. They push me. The vibe is so positive, you can be who you want to be. The weed just goes with it. See, when I was in high school, I wasn’t in the streets. I had friends that were in the streets, but I just smoked with them. I had straight white kids that I just kicked it with and they smoked more than the kids in the streets. “Let’s tear this place apart!” So instructed director Jason Eisener before Friday’s midnight premiere of Hobo with a Shotgun , the unabashedly campy Canadian-American grindhouse flick about a homeless drifter who cleans up the streets of a depraved urban metropolis with only a pawn shop shotgun and plenty of gloriously insane death-dealing catchphrases in his arsenal. And while it may have disappointed Eisener and Co. that an actual riot didn’t erupt before or after their film, they must have been pleased that Hobo played exactly right to just the genre-loving crowd it was made for.

Perhaps you remember (though probably not) stage-fright-wracked singer Alex Lambert , the talented but nervous guitar strummer whose ouster unleashed an online petition of support from more than 13,000 fans who wanted him reinstated to the show. Well, on Monday night, Lambert posted a string of tweets in which he claimed he’d been forced to live on the streets of Los Angeles since October, when he wrapped up his stint on the reality series “If I Can Dream,” the online show he fled to after being booted from “Idol.” After chatting with some fellow fans and former “Idol” pals about his frustrations with the music biz, Lambert dropped this bombshell: “Ever since ‘IICD’ ended I’ve been kinda homeless! Sleepin on the street and behind buildings. I have a choice to stay and pursue my career or go back to texas and not do music! I’m usually a strong person but I can’t take it anymore. I’ve been goin to coffee shops and other stores so I can tweet to my snaf! Because to be honest! You guys are all I really have!” According to Entertainment Weekly, however, things are not nearly as grim as they might seem. A spokesperson for an “Idol” production company, 19 Entertainment, which manages many of the show’s contestants, confirmed that the tweets did come from Lambert but denied that the 20-year-old Texas singer is sleeping behind dumpsters. “He’s not homeless. I don’t know where that came from,” the unidentified rep told EW, explaining that there’s good reason to believe that Lambert should have the ability to pay for housing thanks to his development deal with 19. “He’s on a retainer, and he’s getting money every month,” the spokesperson said. “He’s working on demos. He’s with writers, he’s working on music. … He’s not homeless. How could he be texting? How could he be going into [the] recording studio and sleeping on the streets? There’s no record deal yet, but hopefully these demos … something could come from that.” Perhaps someone at 19 had a chat with Lambert about his down and out in Beverly Hills claims, since he updated his status on Tuesday afternoon, writing, “Sorry for the miscommunication 😉 I’m just fine! MAHALO!” And even though he claimed to be living on the streets, he asked his followers not to feel sorry for him, adding, “I know a lot of people think I tweeted my living situation for publicity! But I don’t give a damn about fame!” But then he muddied the waters again with some follow-up tweets in which he stated emphatically, “I’m real! And I don’t lie! and I would never lie to y’all! (y’all being my supporters who got my back through thick and thin) F— yeah I was … sleepin outside! That sh– sucks too! I’m goin back home to get my sh– together! But I will be back! And I’m comin strong! I thought that these pictures of Rihanna walking the streets in her tight leather pants were going to be WAY hotter than this. What a let down. Arrest stems from a raid on his Atlanta home last month. By Kara Warner Waka Flocka Flame Photo: Henry County Sheriff’s Office Rapper Waka Flocka Flame turned himself in to authorities in Atlanta on Monday (January 3) following last month’s raid on his home . Flocka was booked on multiple charges, including possession of marijuana and hydrocodone, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of probation for driving on a suspended license. According to TMZ , Waka’s mother and manager, Deb Antney, said the rapper turned himself in because “he wanted to do the right thing and didn’t want to run.” The rapper’s arrest stemmed from a warrant issued after a raid on his home in Atlanta last month, during which authorities were said to be investigating a prostitution organization but instead uncovered drugs and guns on the premises. Antney, who was home at the time of the raid, along with Waka associate Gucci Mane, fiercely denied the prostitution allegations. Although Antney and Mane were detained while police searched the home, neither party was charged. “It had nothing to do with prostitution,” Antney told MTV News. “The weapons they found were licensed weapons. There was under an ounce of marijuana, but it was nothing but a blunt. The other drugs were medication that was in Waka’s room from when he got hurt,” Antney said, referring to Waka Flocka Flame’s shooting last year . During a sit-down with radio station Hot 93.7 in Hartford, Connecticut, after the raid, Waka denied he was involved in any shady dealings, maintaining he has no plans to juggle life in the streets and the spotlight. “Why would I rap and go try to street gang bang? That’s hustling backwards. Why would I wanna rap all around the world and then go hit the streets and gang bang? I’m a rapper, I’m not a [gang-banger]. How can you gang-bang and be a rapper? I don’t understand that,” he said. “I would love to find out where their information is coming from.
