Niecy Nash Speaks On Karrueche Tran Starring On “Claws” Ahead of tonight’s premiere of TNT’s highly anticipated new series, the show’s star spoke on adding a budding actress to the cast. Niecy Nash , as well as Karrueche and their co-star Harold Perrineau, recently dished to EBONY about “Claws” and the full set of drama on the show. According to Niecy after she personally suggested Kae for the role of ex-exotic dancer turned nail tech Virginia… “With the part of Virginia, it was a very hard part to cast. I tested with a lot of women. So I said, “Are you all familiar with Karrueche Tran?” Some of them were. Some of them were not. I said, “I think she may be an interesting choice for this. You should bring her in.” The reason I said that was because I felt like meeting her in person; I could see some of the things in her personality that could really work for the role. You can be a public personality but still in some ways be very shy.” Tibrina Hobson/Getty Images Karrueche nailed (no pun) her audition and cried like a baby when she got it. “I just felt like there was something about her that could serve Virginia. So she had to go through several rounds of auditions before she got the part, but she cried like a baby when I talked to her after booking it. We went out, and we celebrated. I was very, very happy for her, and she’s holding her own. It’s not stunt casting. She’s doing a really good job. She studied off her a*s though.” Karrueche also told EBONY that she scrupulously studied strippers at some Atlanta shaky butt clubs for inspiration. KT: I don’t know; [I] created this girl in my head. Once we started doing fittings, and I wear a blond wig. Once I had the hair on, and the nails done, and the outfit, it made me more connected to the character. EBONY: Definitely. KT: And my choices, the way I talk, the way I move my hands, all of that came into place. I also, right before we started shooting, I spent about a week in Atlanta at the strip clubs. Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic EBONY: Oh wow. KT: Yeah. Virginia comes from the strip clubs. I’ve been to strip clubs before to have fun. It was more the setting and just watching these girls; the way they move, the way they look and talk to guys, and their choices and all that.
