During ‘MTV First: Justin Bieber,’ pop star says ‘As Long As You Love Me’ could be the next track to hit radio. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Justin Bieber Photo: MTV News Justin Bieber is still riding high off the release of his new video for “Boyfriend.” But with the release of his next album, Believe, not too far off, Bieber told MTV News that fans might get the chance to hear more from the June 19 release sooner rather than later. “Why did I choose ‘Boyfriend’ [for my first single]? I just thought it was … a song that most represented me at the time and what I wanted to put out there, ” he told Sway during “MTV First: Justin Bieber” on Thursday night (May 3). “It’s crazy, because even my next single after that is going to be better.” Bieber didn’t want to give out too many details about this even better next track, but he did reveal that the title recalls the title of a certain hit by ’90s teen idols the Backstreet Boys. “My next single, I don’t have it completely set. … I think it’s ‘As Long As You Love Me.’ It’s midtempo,” Bieber said. “I think it’s edgy.” With no exact details on when fans might get to hear the song, he dished that a song he wrote for his mother, Pattie Mallette, could drop on May 13, whether or not it makes the album. “I wrote a song for my mom. But I’m going to put it out on Mother’s Day,” he said, explaining why Mama Mallette was worthy of her own track, “[It’s] about the struggles, I say in the song. She had me at like the age I am now. Once there, she says he hit her in the lower lip. When the police arrived, Minaj explained what happened but said she did not want to press charges. She added that the opponent was not her boyfriend. Demi Lovato premiered the single “Skyscraper” today on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. That was her big move professionally. Personally, though, the 18-year old gave fans an open look into the struggles over the last few months, which landed her in rehab and caused her to admit that she’s bipolar . Demi Lovato on Ryan Seacrest “I just had so much growing up to do… I ended up doing things that I regret to this day,” Lovato said about the inner turmoil that led to her attacking dancer Alex Welch . What was the most difficult time for the singer? “Spending Christmas in treatment was really, really difficult,” she said. “I just remember sometimes sitting there and being like, ‘I had so much just six months ago, and here I am in a treatment center. What has my life become? How did I let it get to this point?'” Demi says she was never suicidal, but times grew “really dark.” Lovato recorded “Skyscraper” soon before entering rehab. She says of the experience: “I just sat there and I just cried my eyes out, I was almost doubled over with emotion… it was crazy. I tried to re-record it but, it didn’t have that same emotion and that same almost cry for help that I had when I first recorded it.” Look for the music video to come out this week.
