‘He said he was gonna give me some beats, but he never did,’ Game says on ‘RapFix Live,’ speculating that lyrics may have upset ‘Ye. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Game Photo: MTV News Game and Kanye West have had quite the chemistry in the studio. But after producing a song on each of Game’s first three albums, the Louis Vuitton Don will not be supplying any music for the West Coast rapper’s upcoming The R.E.D. Album and that may be Game’s fault. “I dunno, I think I dissed Amber Rose while she was with [Kanye] and I think that kinda tainted our relationship a little bit,” Game told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” after he was asked when he’d be working with Yeezy again. “I reached out to Kanye at the beginning of the album and I seen him in L.A. He said he was gonna give me some beats, but he never did,” the Compton MC said. “I didn’t take it personal, I got nothing but love for ‘Ye and the things that we did in the past.” The pair first collaborated when West hooked up the beat for “Dreams,” a single off of Game’s 2005 debut, The Documentary. The two then got together again on “Wouldn’t Get Far,” the model-dissing track off Game’s second album, The Doctor’s Advocate, and completed the hat trick in 2008 with “Angel” on the former G-Unit member’s L.A.X. LP. But when the rapper drops The R.E.D. Album on August 23, the streak will end. While Game admitted to some wrongdoing — throwing shots at Yeezy’s former squeeze while the two were together — he insisted that he never directly disrespected Kanye. “I never shoot shots at Kanye, and if I do, it’s always competitive and I’ll clean it up on the next bar because I got a lot of love and a lot of respect for him.” Game also says he isn’t hard-pressed for a Kanye track or feature. “What I’m saying is, I’m not waking up begging to work with Kanye, number one, but if it happens it happens; if it don’t, it don’t.” Sway then asked whether Game’s persistent barbs at Jay-Z had anything to do with the distance between him and Kanye, considering the two are dropping their collaborative Watch the Throne album . Game didn’t think that was a factor, noting that Kanye and Jay have always had a close relationship, and Game has been baiting Hov for years. “I’ve been shooting shots at Jay from the beginning, but worked with ‘Ye throughout,” the Dr. Dre prot

‘Motivation’ singer says she admires ‘artists like Chris Brown and Rihanna, who don’t mind putting it all on their album.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kelly Rowland Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic Kelly Rowland is proudly declaring Here I Am on her new album, which dropped Tuesday (July 26). And while she’s always been a soulful R&B diva, the past few years, she’s carved out a place for herself among the dancing queens of the world. And, she said, there’s room for both of those characters on this latest release. “The personalities aren’t really different,” she explained to MTV News. “I think what I’ve grown to know about my voice is, just having a voice, period, as a woman, you mean business, period — whether that’s making people dance or that’s making people feel in an emotional way or whatever it might be when it comes to R&B. “I think that R&B, of course, is where I’m deeply rooted, period,” she continued. “I’ll never go anywhere. I just happened to try something out [dance], and it worked, and that’s just the part of it. And I think that’s what I admire about artists like Chris Brown and Rihanna, who don’t mind putting it all on their album. Who cares? It’s music, and they’re making it: great music. And I’m proud of that, that we do have a generation that is just making great music, period.” With features from the likes of “Motivation” collaborator Lil Wayne , Big Sean and Rico Love, to name a few, Rowland also got production help from heavy hitters such as Tricky Stewart, Jim Jonsin, David Guetta, RedOne and Rodney Jerkins. “Above anything, I got to work with creative people. We were in the same pocket sonically,” she explained. “And I got the chance to go back in with Rodney Jerkins, and we were just in a pocket together that … blew me away, period. And with Red[One] too, everybody. It was so much fun. I’m so happy with the project.” This album, for Rowland, was a balance of working with a new crop of producers and a familiar set of people. That combination helped her shape the many sides of herself. “Red didn’t meet me, but he was like, ‘I don’t think you are singing at your full capacity,’ ” she recalled. “We got into the studio, and when we finished the two records that we did together, I just looked at him and was like, ‘You get it?’ He gets it. “And Rodney’s been knowing me since I was 17 years old,” she continued. “Rodney comes into the studio, and he’s like, ‘Wait a minute: What’s happening [with your voice]?’ It’s really interesting how the two are not that far off, but they’re both great ears.” Share your review of Kelly Rowland’s new album in the comments below. ‘We was just chilling,’ C-Smoove tells ‘RapFix Live’ of being in the studio with M-Bone the day he was killed. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Cali Swag District on “RapFix Live” Photo: MTV News Cali Swag District just dropped their new album, The Kickback, on Tuesday, following the success of their massive hit “Teach Me How to Dougie.” But the accomplishment is bittersweet since it arrived nearly two months after the murder of Mante “M-Bone” Talbert . The remaining members of the group — Yung, C-Smoove and JayAre — hit MTV News’ “Rap Fix Live” on Wednesday (July 13) and, after refuting rumors that they were involved in M-Bone’s death, talked about the last time they each spoke to their late friend. “We was talking about shoes. I just bought the Cool Greys, the Jordans,” Yung said of his last conversation with M-Bone. “He was like, ‘Man, I can’t find those nowhere, let me buy them from you.’ And I just had bought ’em, and I was like, ‘Nah.’ And [then], I was like, ‘You know what? I don’t even want them.’ But then I was like, ‘No, but I do.’ And then he was like, ‘Fine, I’m just going to go buy them myself.’ So what he did was he went to the store and he bought them and he took a picture of them [and sent it to all of us]. I was like, ‘It’s all good, though. We all got them, so we a team, you feel me?’ I used to tell him that all the time, I used to be like, ‘Yo, we a team, B.’ ” JayAre was playing a video game with his fallen friend the last he saw him alive. “I think the last time we talked, we was playing [NBA 2K11] or something,” JayAre said. “I always got the Lakers, he played with the Heat. He was a Heat fan. I think he won that game that time.” C-Smoove said, “Last time I talked to Bone, he was like, ‘Hey, is Kickback jumping?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, man, we up here.’ He was like, ‘I’m on my way.’ Came to the studio; he came comfortable man — basketball shorts, little Heat jacket, some Nikes or something — he wasn’t even trying to impress nobody. He was just up there chilling in his little giddy-up. He just woke up, drove to the studio. We was just chilling. “And that’s right before he went to the store, man,” Smoove recalled. M-Bone was shot in his car on La Brea Avenue, not far from the Inglewood, California spot Airport Liquor and Groceries. “That was the last time I talked to him.” Smoove’s comment sparked a particularly fond memory for another member of the group. “I remember that whole day too,” Yung said. “I remember we all was at Smoove’s house for his birthday. [M-Bone] pulled up on the side. We all sitting in the cars and stuff, we got girls out there, ’cause we always got girls somewhere. It’s like 20 people, [and] like 19 of them was girls. So we out there, and Bone, he wasn’t there. And he just pulled up in his Camaro and he was like, ‘What’s going on here?!’ I was like, ‘Don’t worry about it; either you with us or you ain’t.’ And he was like, ‘I’m with you.’ So he parked and hopped in the car and then he was with us.” M-Bone’s murder remains unsolved. By Terri Schwartz Jewel and Ty Murray Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images It’s a boy for Jewel and husband Ty Murray, who welcomed their first child on Monday night. “Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy Kase Townes Murray into the world!” Jewel posted on her website . “We are over come with happiness – it really is as great as everyone told us it would be- better even!” The couple have said they have been trying to conceive for two years and announced that they were expecting back in January. The two were married in 2008 in the Bahamas. Kase was born in Texas — where the couple owns a working ranch — at 7 p.m. CT, weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces. Previously, Jewel opened up about finding the right time to start a family. “I have always been a workaholic, so I had to learn how to slow down and take care of myself in a different way,” she told People in January. “I’m trying to be in the moment and really enjoy my pregnancy. I feel really lucky.” Murray felt similarly enthused about starting a family after three years of marriage. “We’re so excited to be expecting our first baby,” he said. “We always knew we wanted to have a child, and this time in our lives feels right.” Jewel released an album of children’s song back in 2009 called Lullaby and now has a new collection of kid-friendly songs called The Merry Goes ‘Round that will be released in August. ‘When you got an estate, it’s so much paperwork and red tape and legal stuff you gotta deal with,’ Wu-Tang mastermind says of late friend’s music. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Adam Murphy RZA Photo: MTV News Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothin’ ta eff wit, and neither are the RZA ‘s beats. While in Berlin promoting his new headphone line Chambers by Rza, the Wu producer told MTV News that he has given beats to a number of hip-hop artists, including Nas, Busta Rhymes and Ludacris, as well as his cousin and Wu-partner GZA for his Liquid Swords 2 album. “Me and GZA talked about doing Liquid Swords part 2, a sequel. We talked about it for a while,” RZA said about the follow-up to GZA’s 1996 album. “We actually started a little and then we pulled back based on scheduling, based on my movie.” RZA’s love affair with Hollywood is no secret. As an actor, Bobby Digital has appeared in “American Gangster” alongside Russell Crowe and has recently been cast in “G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.” RZA has also been hard at work directing “The Man With the Iron Fists,” a movie set in feudal China which will star Russell Crowe, Pam Grier and Lucy Liu. “The movie has taken me out of the loop of music. But what I have been doing, I’ve been going to studios and inviting people to my studio. So I went to the studio with Luda and I emptied beats from my beat machine for him. Whether he use it or not is up to him, but I just been emptying out my beat machines,” RZA said before revealing more of his collaborative hopefuls. “I emptied out some beats on Busta, I emptied out some beats on Nas, emptied out some beats for [Ghostface Killah] and for Wu-Tang Clan — just sent them 20 beats a few weeks ago.” Though he is very passionate about making movies at the moment, RZA knows music is what got him where he is today. “I really want to put a lot of my energy into film, but I know that I got here because of music and I know people dig my music. And I’m like, ‘Why not put the music out there too?’ ” Judging from his activity, it is a safe bet that fans can hear a lot of new RZA music in the near future, but anyone expecting to hear collaborations between the producer and his cousin, the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, shouldn’t get their hopes up. While the Abbot does confirm that he has plenty of unreleased Ol’ Dirty material, releasing those tunes are quite difficult. “That’s a very tricky situation, because ODB has passed and he has an estate,” he said. “When you got an estate, it’s so much paperwork and red tape and legal stuff you gotta deal with. I tried to put out a song last year called ‘Dirt’s the Boogie,’ and they threatened me with an injunction and I wrote the lyrics to the song. Made the beat, wrote the lyrics and Dirty just performed it.” Instead of holding onto the work, though, RZA is contemplating leaving the unheard recordings to Dirty’s son when the time is right. “I will tell the fans, I do have a few 2-inch reels of material nobody has but me. I don’t know what I’ll do with it,” he said. “Maybe in time I’ll just give it to his son, I don’t know.” Do you want to hear RZA’s ODB tapes? Let us know in the comments!
