As Duggar fans (and viewers who love to hate-watch) have observed, Duggar courtships are getting shorter and shorter . Patriarch Jim Bob will do anything to keep his kids chaste until marriage, even if it means marrying them off sooner. The Duggars have another tool to keep their kids “pure” … a code word that they say under this bizarre circumstance. In their book, Growing Up Duggar , sisters Jana, Jessa, Jill, and Jinger reveal a lot about their controversial family. One of those long-forgotten, overlooked details is a code word that is used by the Duggar women in a specific situation. The secret code word is … … “Nike.” All jokes about the Duggars invoking the name of the winged goddess of victory aside, they are clearly referring to the brand of shoes. And no, it’s not out of support for the NFL’s Colin Kaepernick, although we can see Ben Seewald appreciating the irony. Why do they say it? Michelle and her daughters say “Nike” if they see a woman dressed by standards others than the Duggar dress code. Oh yes. The girls give this warning if they see a harlot with bare arms or wearing jeans or showing her unholy knees. Or, who knows. Maybe even their lower thighs. In response, the Duggar boys are required to look down at their feet so that they won’t see a normal human woman. It’s essentially the literal exact opposite of pointing out a hottie to your friend when you’re walking around town. We’ll hand it to them on one key point at least: “Nike” is a pretty subtle way of telling the guys to stare at the ground. To outsiders, it would just appear as if the guys are bored or painfully shy. Or perhaps really interested in footwear. But we know. We know. They’re also consistent. Michelle has spoken in the past about why her daughters are required to dress a certain way. The women of the Duggar are basically forced to wear the baggiest clothing that hides their skin and curves. “By keeping those private areas covered,” Michelle explained. “There’s not any ‘defrauding’ going on.” Yes. Defrauding. In real life, the entire notion of fraud is usually predicated upon lies or broken promises or other deceptions. Michelle and Jim Bob see things very, very differently (as is true of most things) as evidenced by their interpretation of this. “My kids are taught the definition of defrauding as stirring up desires that cannot be righteously fulfilled,” Michelle adds. “We don’t believe in defrauding others by the way we dress.” Within the Duggar household, they do not believe in any sexual activity – or kissing or hand-holding – before marriage. If you stop and think about it, what Michelle is saying there goes beyond even the bounds of “normal” modesty culture. She’s not simply arguing that women are magically responsible for the sexual thoughts of men, though there’s that, too. Michelle’s saying, almost outright, that a provocative glimpse, whether it’s of bare skin or of covered curves, is a promise. A promise of sex. There’s a word for social attitudes that frame the physical appearance of women as an invitation or a promise to have sex: rape culture. It is this exact mentality that causes predators to walk free and for survivors of sexual violence to blame themselves. So … yikes. We cut back and forth between Kandi talking to her team and Porsha talking to her sister and Dennis. Todd was really out of the loop and Kandi only knew bits and pieces of what her team was telling her, primarily DonJuan and Jami. DonJuan and Jami explain that Porsha got mad that Jami’s friend, who used to date Dennis, tried to kiss him on the cheek. We all know that Jami and Porsha already don’t get along from when Porsha tried to fight her years ago for…who even remembers? Anyway, we also know that Porsha is a hothead. So, Jami said that Dennis and her friend were chatting it up and being friendly, but Porsha came out at the part where said friend tried to kiss Dennis on the cheek. Dennis claims that he pulled a matrix move when the friend tried to kiss him and kinda made it seem like the friend was coming on to him. Then Jami said that the friend started to walk away from Porsha, but that Porsha began escalating the situation and getting rowdy. Jami said she stepped in the middle and that Porsha chest bumped her. Porsha then said that someone from Kandi’s team kicked her out because they didn’t want anyone to act a’fool at Kandi and Todd’s event. That person from Kandi’s team corroborates that claim. Porsha said that the next day, #TheBlogs reported that she got into a fistfight, which wasn’t true, and she blames Kandi’s team, particularly Jami, for planting the story. She’s also pissed at Kandi for not following up with her. Meanwhile, Jami says that Porsha really needs to get mad at Dennis because, after the incident, he was allegedly texting her friend laughing and joking about the situation. Now let’s fast forward some more. At this point in the episode, we find Cynthia, Nene, Shamea, and Porsha together discussing the incident because they want to know how Porsha got kicked out. Porsha goes into her side of the story again and pretty much seems like the victim. But eventually they move on and Porsha finally reveals that she’s pregnant. They all erupt into screams of excitement and NeNe can breathe because she no longer has to keep this secret. But then Cynthia wonders what we’re all wondering: Why would Porsha put herself at risk at the party since she knew she was pregnant? All Porsha offers is that she’s upset at herself for putting herself in that position. Now Cynthia and NeNe want to talk to Kandi. So, let’s get to that moment. The entire group gets together—it’s a girls night at Tanya’s place. Let’s cut to the chase, it all goes downhill as soon as both women come face to face. They start off trying to explain their respective sides—as they always do—and then go into a full-blown argument. Porsha blames Kandi, Kandi explains that she didn’t plant a story and that she didn’t even know what was going on until after the fact. But then Porsha escalates by calling Kandi a b—h. This year’s headliners include Childish Gambino , Tame Impala and Ariana Grande . The festival returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California from April 12-14 and then for a second weekend from April 19-21. See the full lineup below. Cynthia is preparing to send Noelle to Howard University, and both women are nervous wrecks because this will be the first thing Noelle has ever done without dear mama. However, Cynthia is proud of her baby girl and is planning to celebrate. The scene is Lake Bailey, and we’re in the middle of Noelle’s send-off party. Unfortunately, Noelle refuses to come downstairs and has a breakdown where she tearfully explains to her mother that she can’t go and wants the guests who are already there to go home. Mama Bear Cynthia comforts her girl and assures her that everything will be alright. Hold that thought. In other news, Todd and Mama Joyce aren’t on good terms, which sucks because they had made so much progress. Basically, Mama Joyce made a comment in an interview, that Kandi took Todd from lemons to lemonade, and Todd hasn’t taken too kindly to that because he feels it’s an insult. Mama Joyce says she meant it as a compliment but we all know how shady she can be. So now it’s up to Kandi to try to get them to be cool again. Kandi would like her mom to apologize and Mama Joyce has agreed. We’re nervous about how this goes but let’s fast forward a bit. Mama Joyce and Todd have their discussion and it actually goes well. Looks like all is well in Kandi Land again. Porsha has a major moment as she learns that her pregnancy is viable. You know she has been worried about this pregnancy due to having had prior miscarriages and her fibroid situation, but she finally has her first prenatal doctor’s appointment. It looks like everything is going well, but the only bummer for Porsha is that she will have to have a c-section due to having a myomectomy . Now we fast forward a bit and we’re back to Cynthia. She successfully convinces Noelle to go to Howard and they end up spending a weekend getting her settled into her new dorm. Luckily for Noelle, her roommate situation fell through so she has a room all to herself. Finally, the episode winds down with Cynthia and Leon sending Noelle back to campus, alone in an Uber, after a nice dinner. Noelle is still nervous but ready to level up. Next week it’s Kandi vs. Porsha again and it’s going to get heated, heated . She paired her silk gown with $3,900 Balenciaga Sequin Knife Thigh-High Boots that have the entire internet going H.A.M on Google. Source: Krista Long / Getty If you’re privy to the dance scene going on in New York that has also taken over social media (and made it’s way into White Folks’ home thanks to Ellen Degeneres ), then you’ve probably heard of Emilie Brooklyn . Emilie is very well known in the New York City dance community, specifically when it comes to the lite feet movement. The Copenhagen, Denmark native has danced for everyone from ASAP Ferg to Chris Brown — and with her large social media following plus half of uptown New York supporting her, it’s safe to say that Em is up next. Don’t get us wrong, anyone with raw talent (who can Harlem shake better than some Harlemites) deserves all the clout and respect that Emilie receives. But as a White girl whose upbringing was the polar opposite of someone growing up in the projects of Brooklyn, some things just aren’t acceptable. Like her birthday video to Jay-Z in front of Marcy houses. Not only is the video tone deaf AF, but it poses the question: Are Black folks too welcoming? Are we giving away our culture for free? There are several things about the 16 second clip that would trigger any person of color that grew up in an impoverished community: The setting: Public Housing is not a tourist attraction or a prop. Oppressed people of color were placed STILL live there and some are trying to make it out. Starret City, the largest federally subsidized, was built specifically for low-income, government assisted Black folks in 1974. Now it’s called Spring Creek Towers and was sold to shareholders, including Donald Trump, for $905 million . The Timbs: We’re use to Wypipo jocking our style and calling it their own; i.e. the Kim Kardashian “Boxer Braids”. But we gotta draw the line some where, and Timberland Boots is a good place to start. In the late 80’s and early 90’s before White folks ever thought about making their way to Brooklyn, Timbs were a symbol of the urban NY culture. Legend has it that Drug Dealers made them popular in the 90’s when they wore them to hit the block. But just like most things in Black culture — white folks got a hold of them, then celebrities. Now we cringe every time we see an “Emilie” ditching her uggs for Timbs. The props: If a Black girl came to a predominately White, suburban neighborhood dancing in front of the property with her coat and backpack posted on the gate all willy nilly — the police would have been called before she could finish her harlem shake. The Tags: Really though, Emilie? You just gon’ tag every popular urban outlet thinking they’d praise you for finagaling in front of such a beloved area? Nah. The Dance: As Millennials, we let a lot of things slide when it comes to the arts. “If you’re good at something, why do we have to bring race into the mix?” But just as White folks benefit from their ancestors atrocities with White privilege, Black people bare the brunt of our ancestors pain and suffering with oppression and maltreatment. And just as Jamie Lee Lewis wrote on Instagram , “The Harlem Shake, Light Feet are not dance moves. For us this is culture, it’s how we survive and how we acknowlege that we survived.” By no means are we saying that Emilie Brooklyn can’t dance, cause shorty has moves! But just be more aware. Be more informed. And please, get more Black friends.
When the world first learned that Josh Duggar molested five young girls and his parents helped him to cover up his crimes, it was widely assumed that everyone involved would fade into obscurity, never to be seen again. Instead, Jim Bob and Michelle quickly rebuilt their media empire, while Josh started filing lawsuits. Josh lashed out in many different directions after being exposed as a dangerous pervert, but he was particularly angry at the police department of Springdale, Arkansas. Josh felt the cops had violated his rights by releasing info involving his criminal record to reporters from Life & Style . The judge in his civil trial disagreed in hilarious fashion. The thing is, Josh’s lawsuit didn’t make any sense, and judges are usually pretty quick to pick up on that sort of thing. Josh claimed that the police broke the law by releasing the records of a minor, even though he was 27 at the time. He argued that he has the right to expect privacy — and later in the very same lawsuit, he claimed that the release of his records had damaged his ability to make money as a celebrity. Like we said, the judge wasn’t crazy about Josh’s interpretation of the law or, ya know, the fundamental laws of logic. “Josh Duggar notes that he has a ‘certain level of celebrity’ and that he engaged in public life,” the judge wrote in his ruling. “Yet he claims that by appearing in a popular reality television series, being a leader in national, political, and civic organizations, and engaging in public speaking, he somehow was conducting himself in a manner consistent with an expectation of privacy.” Today, the same judge laid another smackdown, and issued a public ruling declaring that the period of time in which Josh could have appealed the initial ruling has passed: “The time afforded by the Arkansas Rules of Civil Procedure for the Plaintiff to respond has passed and Plaintiff has made no responsive filing,” the dismissal documents read. “It is therefore, considered, ordered and adjudged, that this matter shall be dismissed with prejudice as to the re-filing of any claim, counterclaim, or filed herein.” So that’s it. Some hero cops exposed Josh Duggar for the child molester that he is, and they will not be punished for it. Looks like there’s occasionally some justice in this world, after all.
