Guilt Over Anorexic Model’s Death Drives Mother To Suicide

SMH. The mother of Isabelle Caro, the anorexic French model who died last year, has committed suicide. Marie Caro, whose daughter made headlines around the world after a picture of her gaunt naked body appeared in a shocking ad campaign, took her own life earlier this month after being consumed with ‘enormous guilt’. Isabelle died at the age of 28 in a French hospital on November 17 after she was admitted for severe dehydration. ‘[Marie] felt guilty for having put my daughter in the Bichat Hospital. My daughter did not want to go to that hospital,’ Isabelle’s step-father Christian told Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes. In a statement released after Isabelle’s death, Mr Caro said that his step-daughter had died ‘from the successive consequences of negligence by the medical staff’. He has since launched a legal complaint against the hospital. In 2008 Isabelle released an autobiography called The Little Girl Who Didn’t Want to Get Fat in which she wrote that her mother appeared to resent her growing up. The model famously featured in an ad campaign by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani in 2007 for an Italian fashion house. Under the headline ‘No Anorexia’, images across newspapers and billboards showed her naked, vertebrae and facial bones protruding. At 5ft 4in, she is reported to have weighed just 4st 8lb (68lbs) at the time. She said she had suffered from anorexia since she was 13 as the result of a ‘difficult childhood’. At the time of the campaign, she wrote: ‘I’ve hidden myself and covered myself for too long. Here’s hoping they’ve both found peace in the Beyond.

SMH: Shady Doctor’s Lawyers Say Michael Jackson “Killed Himself” With Propofol

They just need to let poor MJ rest in peace: Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of the hospital anaesthesia Propofol, it has been claimed. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed lawyers for Dr Conrad Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter in relation to Jackson’s death, plan to use the theory as the main part of his defense. Walgren’s statement came at a hearing yesterday where a lawyer for Dr Murray clashed with the prosecutor over who should test residue from two syringes found in Jackson’s bedroom. He said: ‘I do think it’s clear the defense is operating under the theory that the victim, Michael Jackson, killed himself. ‘They don’t want to say it but that’s the direction in which they are going.’ Defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan said a huge amount of the anaesthetic Propofol was found in Jackson’s body, but his client has said he gave him only 25 milligrams of the drug. Mr. Walgren suggested the defense will claim Jackson killed himself by injecting more of the drug into himself. It is understood that Dr Murray’s lawyers will claim that the star woke up while his physician was out of the room for two minutes in the toilet and administered a lethal dose of the drug himself. A preliminary hearing in the case begins next Tuesday when Judge Michael Pastor will decide whether the prosecution has a strong enough case to support the unusual charge that Dr Murray was criminally responsible for the king of pop’s death in June 2009. As many as 30 witnesses are expected to be called during the two week hearing. Although the defense won’t be putting its case, it is thought highly likely that the judge will find that the American cardiologist will have to go to trial. Dr. Murray, 52, faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. Reports in the US have suggested that the doctor’s lawyers will argue that the singer injected Propofol himself using an intravenous drip, causing a massive heart attack. He then supposedly dropped the bottle on the floor. When the doctor came back into the room he tried CPR in a desperate attempt to revive Jackson. An autopsy later showed the heart attack was caused by a fatal dose of Propofol, a drug Jackson used to help with his chronic insomnia. Mr Flanagan said a broken syringe was found on the bedroom floor in addition to a syringe in an intravenous medication bag. He also revealed that a fingerprint found on the broken syringe hasn’t been identified. Source

Fantasia’s ‘Behind The Music’ Addresses Career Highs, Life Lows

‘American Idol’ alum opens up about suicide attempt, teenage rebelliousness. By Kara Warner Fantasia on “Behind The Music” Photo: VH1 When Fantasia Barrino told America that she had “been through some stuff” upon winning the “American Idol” crown in 2004, she was putting it mildly. That didn’t even include her most recent struggles with a drug overdose and being accused of breaking up a marriage . On VH1’s latest episode of “Behind the Music,” which premiered Tuesday night (August 24), viewers learned that, although the spunky “Idol” winner has suffered several lows recently, she is on her way to a full recovery and proud of herself for being who she is. The episode opened with a detailed account of Barrino’s shocking overdose, in which she said she made attempted to end her life because she “didn’t have any fight” in her . “At that moment I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” she said, boldly admitting that the overdose wasn’t at all an accident and that she was not happy when she woke up in the hospital and realized her suicide attempt “didn’t work” — until her nurse, Melody, told her to get up and fulfill her destiny. From there, the episode delves deep into Fantasia’s North Carolina roots — beginning with when she began singing (at age 5), then tracing her first love (ex-boyfriend Brandel Shouse, the father of her daughter, Zion), which would later turn into an abusive relationship. “He was somebody I was crazy about,” Barrino said. “The first guy who showed me attention.” Barrino recounted how in high school she started to crave attention in other ways, by wearing tight clothing, acting like she was already an adult, until her world was turned upside down after she was raped at her high school at age 14. “I didn’t even cry my way home,” she said of her feelings after the assault. “I was numb, very numb, confused, I just felt nasty. Disgusting.” Although she didn’t press charges, Barrino said she was unable to continue going to school because of the taunts and harassment from her classmates, so she dropped out and then “turned into a rebel,” until her hard-partying and careless ways landed her pregnant at 17. Unable to support herself and her daughter, Barrino began singing professionally, taking any gigs that paid, until she saw an episode of “American Idol” and fought her way into an audition. The rest of Barrino’s story is familiar to “Idol” fans: She was crowned the winner of season three, which she called “the best day of my life,” signed to a record contract with Clive Davis and was the first new artist to have a single debut at #1. Barrino’s post-“Idol” career path wasn’t smooth sailing, however. The young singer once again found herself nearly bankrupt after dealing with corrupt managers and legal woes, but she received new hope after being cast in “A Color Purple” on Broadway . From there, the episode delved into the star’s recent lows — a scare with throat tumors, which she had surgically removed — and her relationship with Antwaun Cook and the lawsuit from his ex-wife, Paula, which led to her suicide attempt last week. “I realize how people end up in the grave because of that one moment,” she said of that dark day. “Feeling like they can’t go on [because] it’s too heavy, that’s somewhere I never want to go again.” Fortunately, the episode ended on a high note, with Barrino proudly receiving her GED and walking in a graduation ceremony with the 2010 class of her former high school, St. Andrews. “I know that I am beautiful and special,” Barrino said. “I am who I am — and that’s what makes me Fantasia.” What did you think about Fantasia’s story on “Behind the Music”? ARTIE LANGE UPDATE

Here is an official update on Artie Lange…unfortunately it is not too good… Artie Lange’s whereabouts and current mental status are now officially known-but the news isn’t great. An interview Artie Lange did with Penthouse Magazine before his suicide attempt was released Wednesday, and included the first family-approved update on where and how well the Howard Stern Show sidekick is recuperating. The Penthouse article stated: “Lange has been laying low since the suicide attempt, spending time with his mother Judy and his sister Stacey, who reports that Artie is ‘still in bed and not speaking more than five words a day.’ Artie’s sister canceled his shows in Las Vegas and at Foxwoods, as well as a few club dates for New York that were scheduled for June and July.” This is the first official statement from a family member of Artie Lange since the comedian’s suicide attempt by stabbing in January. All other reports on Lange’s post-attempt status have come from stories leaked to tabloid outlets and the occasional cryptic on-air statements from Howard Stern Show members who were trying to respect the family’s wishes for privacy. When asked by a Penthouse reporter what he was “passionate” about, Artie Lange stated: “Work. I have nothing else to be excited about. It sucks.” The Penthouse article also quoted Artie Lange as saying: “Getting on The Howard Stern Show is the greatest thing that ever happened to me.” source: http://www.examiner.com/x-11279-Howard-Stern-Examiner~y2010m5d19-Artie-Langes-sister-says-comedian-is-still-in-bed-and-barely-speaking
