Far more than merely the boyfriend of Miley Cyrus now, Liam Hemsworth has booked his next project. The Hunger Games star will play a key role in Paranoia , Entertainment Weekly confirms, a thriller from director Robert Luketic ( Killers , The Ugly Truth ). It will start shooting this summer and may also feature such big names as Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford. Hemsworth, of course, is also for two Hunger Games sequels, starting with a Gary Ross-less Catching Fire . He will also appear opposite Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables 2 and portray the lead in Empire State , an action-heist adventure. [Photo: WENN.com]
‘He’s much softer and nicer now,’ Craig tells MTV News on London set. By Christina Garibaldi Daniel Craig in “Skyfall” Photo: Columbia Pictures When we last left James Bond in “Quantum of Solace,” he was on a mission of vengeance after being scorned by a past love. “Quantum” picked right up where “Casino Royale” left off, and even though there was a lot of action in the flick, Bond wasn’t Bond: He transformed into a cold, hard character, who audiences never saw crack a smile or have his martini shaken. Fast-forward four years: Bond has had time to heal and seems to be ready to get back to his old form, even if he has traded in his martini for a Heineken . MTV News visited the London set of Daniel Craig’s third Bond flick , “Skyfall,” and he told us fans will see him portray a whole new 007. “He’s much softer and nicer now,” Craig explained. “It’s just different … hopefully, it’s different again from that [‘Casino Royale’]. There was a story to telling ‘Quantum’ that we had to finish off and round off. He was hurt and broken-hearted; he’s not so broken-hearted. He’s on the mend; he’s feeling much better.” While little is known about the plot of “Skyfall,” the 23rd Bond film, what we do know from the official synopsis is that Bond’s loyalty to Judi Dench’s character, M, is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. That leaves a lot of holes that need to be filled, but, of course, Craig wouldn’t give away too much. After all, it’s top-secret information. Craig said Bond’s relationship with M is “a very important part of the film.” “There’s also the very important relationship he has with the bad guy in the movie [ Silva, played by Javier Bardem ]. We got Javier to come and do that, which gives the film a richer content, but his relationship with M, they are very close and they basically go on an adventure together, she gets out in the field. Judi, she’ll tell you she usually films most of her stuff in the studio like this while we are all off in some wonderful location and she gets to come with us this time.” “Skyfall” hits theaters November 9. Singer weighs in on how literal the video will get and when fans might get to hear more from Believe. And if the response to the album’s first single, “Boyfriend,” is any indication, the record’s appeal might span far beyond the realm of his devoted Beliebers. “The reaction’s been great [to ‘Boyfriend’]; not only have I got good reactions from my fans, but great reactions from people who, you know, [might not usually listen to my music]. I’ve gotten messages like ‘You know, I never would have listened to Justin and now I love this song,’ ” he explained to MTV News. “So, it’s really great feedback.” It’s that kind of enthusiasm that Bieber is taking with him as he works on the record in its final stages. He’s already hit the studio with folks like Drake, will.i.am, Diplo and Usher and is just chugging along before he has to wrap up and send it out into the world. “There’s not a confirmed release date. It’s this summer. I’m really happy with the outcome of it so far,” he said. “I mean, we’re almost done. We’re just kind of putting the finishing touches on it. It should be good.” But before then, fans will have to satisfy their appetites with the Colin Tilley-directed “Boyfriend” video, which should drop in the near future. There’s so much good stuff in this new DGA Quarterly interview (particularly about the joys of IMAX ), but for the record, Christopher Nolan isn’t messing around with his commitment to shooting on old-fashioned glorious film. And according to Nolan, his peers shouldn’t be, either: Q: You and your cameraman, Wally Pfister, are—along with Steven Spielberg—among the last holdouts who shoot on film in an industry that’s moved to digital. What’s your attraction to the older medium? A: For the last 10 years, I’ve felt increasing pressure to stop shooting film and start shooting video, but I’ve never understood why. It’s cheaper to work on film, it’s far better looking, it’s the technology that’s been known and understood for a hundred years, and it’s extremely reliable. I think, truthfully, it boils down to the economic interest of manufacturers and [a production] industry that makes more money through change rather than through maintaining the status quo. We save a lot of money shooting on film and projecting film and not doing digital intermediates. I’ve just carried on making films in the way that works best and waiting until there’s a good reason to change. But I haven’t seen that reason yet. Q: Have you ever thought about communicating your feelings to the industry and other directors? A: I’ve kept my mouth shut about this for a long time and it’s fine that everyone has a choice, but for me the choice is in real danger of disappearing. So right before Christmas I brought some filmmakers together and showed them the prologue for The Dark Knight Rises that we shot on IMAX film, then cut from the original negative and printed. I wanted to give them a chance to see the potential, because I think IMAX is the best film format that was ever invented. It’s the gold standard and what any other technology has to match up to, but none have, in my opinion. The message I wanted to put out there was that no one is taking anyone’s digital cameras away. But if we want film to continue as an option, and someone is working on a big studio movie with the resources and the power to insist [on] film, they should say so. I felt as if I didn’t say anything, and then we started to lose that option, it would be a shame. When I look at a digitally acquired and projected image, it looks inferior against an original negative anamorphic print or an IMAX one. OK? No one’s trying to take away your digital camera! Sheesh.
