AP Photo/Mike McCarn The joys of being black…. Kam Chancellor Mistaken For Robber At Gym Super Bowl champ and four-time Pro Bowler Kam Chancellor was disgusted this week when he went to a gym with hopes of purchasing it, and had the cops called on him. The Seattle Times reports: Redmond police on Wednesday night confirmed that Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was involved in an incident that led to a 911 call at the Redmond Athletic Club. The incident first came to light when Chancellor tweeted Wednesday night that two women had reported him to police because he was checking out the gym, which closed for business Monday. He said he was interested in buying it. Becky Range, the public information officer for the Redmond Police Department, described the incident as a misunderstanding. Range confirmed that a 911 call from the club was made to Redmond police at 4:25 p., Range said Chancellor was among five adults who, according to the club employee, were outside, banging on the door and looking in the window. “The employees thought the five individuals were trying to gain entry into the facility,’’ Range said. Range said the employees “felt unsettled’’ and called the police. The club had lost its lease and closed Monday. Range said Redmond police officers arrived as Chancellor and four other individuals were leaving. “It was a positive interaction,’’ Range said. “They (the officers) said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ and that’s when the group said they were just here to check out the facility. They were really easy to talk to, and they said our officers were really nice and they left without incident and no police report was filed.’’ Chancellor has run fitness boot camps for women in past off-season. Kam is rightfully perturbed by the incident and added some more heated tweets to his account. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) Hit the flip to see them…
Could THG’s Celebrity of the Year race already be over? By March?!? It may very well be possible, considering the incredible two-month start to 2016 that has been enjoyed by Lady Gaga. The unprecedented run has crossed all industries, too, kicking off in early January with Gaga earning her first-ever Golden Globe Award for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel. Lady Gaga Wins First-Ever Golden Globe! It was then on to the football field in Santa Clara, as Gaga didn’t just belt out the national anthem prior to Super Bowl 50 . She totally and completely owned it: Lady Gaga National Anthem at Super Bowl 50 We may have to go all the way back to 1991 and Whitney Houston to come up with the last Super Bowl rendition of the Star-Spangled banner that was this well received. We then moved on to the Grammy Awards, where Gaga took nine minutes to pay tribute to David Bowie, dressing up as the late singer and putting on a true show-stopper. Trust us. This is worth your time: Lady Gaga Pays Tribute to David Bowie at 2016 Grammy Awards And that brings up to the Academy Awards. Gaga sang her nominated track, “Til It Happens To You,” but she did so much more than that. She sat at the piano. She put true emotion into the single. And she was surrounded by many victims of sexual abuse. It was powerful stuff. It something we can only really imagine Lady Gaga pulling off. Lady Gaga Makes Everyone Cry at the Academy Awards It’s been a whole two months, remember. And this is what Lady Gaga has already pulled off. One major awards victory. Three truly epic performances. She could stop right now and still likely earn our top honor come end of the year. You better go make another sex tape fast, Kim Kardashian . We don’t know how anyone else will be able to compete.
Melissa Harris-Perry Refuses To Appear On MSNBC Amid Fears Her Show Will Be Cancelled Bad news from nerdland. MSNBC has royally pissed off one of our favorite personalities, to the point where she is refusing to appear on the network this weekend. My letter to my @MHPshow team. https://t.co/9ggTnp5b74 #nerdland — Melissa Harris-Perry (@MHarrisPerry) February 26, 2016 In an email to her staff , posted from her Twitter, Harris-Perry reveals that while she believes an MSNBC decision maker ( presumably Andy Lack or Phil Griffin) added her to the weekend lineup, she has no plans to appear due to ongoing radio silence from the network leadership about the status of her show, which she believes may be headed for cancellation, after being sidelined for several weeks for election coverage. Here’s a significant excerpt: Here is the reality: our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season. After four years of building an audience, developing a brand, and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced. Now, MSNBC would like me to appear for four inconsequential hours to read news that they deem relevant without returning to our team any of the editorial control and authority that makes MHP Show distinctive. The purpose of this decision seems to be to provide cover for MSNBC, not to provide voice for MHP Show. I will not be used as a tool for their purposes. I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by Lack, Griffin, or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back. I have wept more tears than I can count and I find this deeply painful, but I don’t want back on air at any cost. I am only willing to return when that return happens under certain terms. I have stayed in the same hotels where MSNBC has been broadcasting in Iowa, in New Hampshire, and in South Carolina, yet I have been shut out from coverage. I have a PhD in political science and have taught American voting and elections at some of the nation’s top universities for nearly two decades, yet I have been deemed less worthy to weigh in than relative novices and certified liars. I have hosted a weekly program on this network for four years and contributed to election coverage on this network for nearly eight years, but no one on the third floor has even returned an email, called me, or initiated or responded to any communication of any kind from me for nearly a month. It is profoundly hurtful to realize that I work for people who find my considerable expertise and editorial judgment valueless to the coverage they are creating. While MSNBC may believe that I am worthless, I know better. I know who I am. I know why MHP Show is unique and valuable. I will not sell short myself or this show. I am not hungry for empty airtime. I care only about substantive, meaningful, and autonomous work. When we can do that, I will return — not a moment earlier. I am deeply sorry for the ways that this decision makes life harder for all of you. You mean more to me than you can imagine. Yours always, Melissa This really hurts our hearts. Harris-Perry also spoke with the NY Times via phone interview confirming she would not appear on the show this weekend. She said she had received no word about whether her show, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and Sundays, had been canceled, but said she was frustrated that her time slot had faced pre-emptions for coverage of the presidential election. She said she had not appeared on the network at all “for weeks” and that she was mostly sidelined during recent election coverage in South Carolina and New Hampshire. Harris-Perry also clarified some of the comments in her email to the Times: “I don’t know if there is a personal racial component,” she said. “I don’t think anyone is doing something mean to me because I’m a black person.” She said that last month the onscreen branding for her show was replaced by MSNBC’s slogan, “The Place for Politics.” With the election heating up, her show was pre-empted each of the last two weeks, and for the most recent edition, on Super Bowl Sunday, she was told to talk mostly about the election. Ms. Harris-Perry, who is under contract, said that she was told this was how it was going to play out for the “foreseeable future.” Ms. Harris-Perry said not being able to talk to her viewers felt like a “betrayal.” “It is perfectly fine, 100 percent reasonable and perfectly acceptable for MSNBC to decide they no longer want the M.H.P. show,” she said. “But they should say that, they should cancel the show, they should stand up. And maybe it would be rewarded with huge ratings, but they shouldn’t kill us by attrition and take us off the air without telling anybody, including us. That for me is what’s painful and difficult.” In the meantime, the network has also responded to Harris-Perry’s decision: An NBC News spokesman said in a statement, “In this exciting and unpredictable presidential primary season, many of our daytime programs have been temporarily upended by breaking political coverage, including M.H.P. This reaction is really surprising, confusing and disappointing.” It definitely sounds like network politics at play. How much do you think was a racial issue? And how much a ratings? According to the NY Times story MSNBC hasn’t been doing as well as Fox or CNN with election season ratings. Is Harris-Perry doing the right thing by taking herself off the air? Or do you think she acted prematurely. Whatever the case, Black Twitter has been responding with a mixture of pride, astonishment and disappointment. Hit the flip for some reactions.
NYPD Says They Want Beyonce To Apologize For Super Bowl Performance Should Queen Bey apologize for her Black powery Super Bowl performance ? According to TMZ , the NPYD says they will only protect Bey if she apologizes for her “ advocating hostility towards police ” during her recent performance and “Formation” music video. Our NYPD sources admit they don’t believe Beyonce was advocating hostility toward police in her homage to the Black Panthers. Problem is … they say that’s the way it came across for millions of viewers. We’re told cops are bitter and want her to publicly disavow violence or any other type of aggression toward police. While she’s at it, they’d also like an explanation as to what she really meant. Should Bey really apologize??
Charlamagne Tha God, MTV personality and “The Breakfast Club” radio host gets the last word on his debate over Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance with conservative talk show host Tomi Lahren.
NYPD Cop Union May Join Miami Police In Boycotting Beyoncé’s Formation Tour Ed Mullins, President of the New York Sergeants Benevolent Association, has spoken out in public support of the Miami Police Department’s boycott of Beyoncé’s Formation Tour . The BeyHive is preparing to swarm in 5, 4, 3……. Beyoncé’s Super Bowl Performance Blamed For Police Deaths A Tennessee sheriff is making national headlines for his incendiary comments about Beyoncé. Sheriff Robert Arnold recently told a local paper that after shots were fired outside of his home he wondered if Beyonce’s Super Bowl halftime show was to blame. Why? Because since Bey’s “Formation” dropped seven police officers have been killed nationwide. The Tennessean reports: Other than being the sheriff and a member of law enforcement, Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold doesn’t know the motive for shots fired outside his Osborne Lane home Monday night. “We all know, as soon as you put your uniform on, you’re a target,” he said at a news conference Tuesday morning at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. “You make people mad when you’re just doing your job.” Arnold said when he first heard the shots, he wondered if they were inspired by the Super Bowl halftime show. When asked to clarify that comment, he added, “You know, Beyonce’s video.” Beyonce recently released the video “Formation,” which has been described as representing the African-American experience. She performed “Formation” during the Super Bowl halftime show. In an email Tuesday afternoon to further clarify the sheriff’s Super Bowl statement, Arnold said, “My comments reflect the violence and senseless killing of seven deputies in the U.S. since the show aired. My comments are an observation of the violence that has occurred but in no way is meant to offend anyone.” The email also included a link to The National Sheriff’s Association’s website with the following information: “The senseless killing of four law enforcement officers just this week — on the heels of the anti-police “entertainment” at the Sunday Super Bowl halftime show — reminds us that the men and women in law enforcement take a solemn oath that includes putting their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens.” Black pride is anti-police entertainment now? Okay. This comes just days after a Detroit police sergeant compared her performance to the KKK. Y’all mad, huh? What do YOU think about Sheriff Arnold’s logic???
