Why The Giants Will Win The Superbowl!

The rest is here:

If you’re a football fan, avid or casual, then you’ve heard the rumblings.  You’ve noticed how undoubtedly similar this New York Giants team is to the 2007 squad, a team that got on a hot streak late and went all the way to the Super Bowl and ended what would have been a historic season for the once 18-0 Patriots.  Don’t get it twisted though; this is not the same exact team, they’re BETTER and for a couple of reasons. Who do you pick to make the Super Bowl? Play our NFL Bracket game & enter for a chance to win Madden 12! A major contrast this team has with its 07’ counterpart is its absence of two former difference makers on both sides of the ball.  On defense it was the well known sack king- Michael Strahan .  Strahan holds the single season record for sacks and will most likely pass rush his way right into the hall of fame when he becomes eligible.  On the other side of the ball it was Plaxico Burress.  Yes the man who many non football fans would know for channeling his inner Cheddar Bob and shooting himself in the leg in a nightclub after the 2007 season.  That incident (unfortunately) overshadowed his game clinching touchdown catch in the super bowl just days before. Although, these guys are gone and were great in their Giant careers, they’ve been replaced with some youthful playmakers that any of the other 31 teams would love to have.  The Giants (still) have a ferocious pass rush, who don’t fall too far from their super bowl tree ranked third this year with 48 sacks as opposed to the 50 they tallied in 07.  Instead of Strahan this group is led by the second year phenom Jason Pierre Paul , who had a whopping 16.5 sacks this year. Veteran’s Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora, two holdovers from the Super Bowl team, are still there and balling.  They also replaced Plaxico and that group of receivers with some young blood.  The giants trio of Manningham, Cruz, and Nicks, who in particular is setting postseason receiving records, are playing at Pro Bowl levels right now. The biggest reason why the Giants will win the Superbowl is Eli Manning .  Yes the same Eli manning that threw a league high 25 interceptions one year ago and would often times have you scratching your head thinking “this guy is Peyton’s brother?!”  Well this has been a career defining year for Eli as he ranked 7 th in passer rating, set a career high in yards and completions, while keeping his interceptions to a modest 16.  The Same Eli who in the beginning of the season was mocked and ridiculed for saying he was an Elite quarterback.  After winning his second playoff game in Lambeau field, one of the most difficult places to play, no one has a right to argue with him.  He turned out a sensational performance and is the number one reason this team has had success this season.  So with only 2 victories keeping him from his second Superbowl, the next time Eli says he’s elite, not a single person should laugh or chuckle, in fact he doesn’t even have to, his play says it all. Can ‘American Idol’ Soar Again? Experts Weigh In

In season 11, show faces increased competition from ‘The Voice.’ By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson on “American Idol” Photo: Michael Becker / FOX Back in the day when “American Idol” was the lumbering 800-pound gorilla of the reality-singing-competition world, it was hard to imagine a time when the top-rated show on TV could ever be toppled. But like any smashingly popular series that eventually loses some of its luster (see “Lost,” “Deal or No Deal” and “Two and a Half Men”), this year, “Idol” is facing a turning point of sorts. Still a ratings juggernaut, season 11 of the show will launch Wednesday night in an atmosphere ripe with other singing shows that could start nipping at its heels. “For nine years, ‘Idol’ had the entire airwaves to itself with lesser rivals like ‘Nashville Star’ … [but now] the world feels much more cluttered with singing shows,” said veteran entertainment journalist Richard Rushfield, author of “American Idol: The Untold Story.” Among the shows Rushfield pointed to are former “Idol” judge Simon Cowell’s recently concluded “X Factor,” NBC’s “The Voice” (which launched in late April last year but will debut after the Super Bowl on February 5) and NBC’s Broadway musical drama “Smash,” which stars “Idol” alum Katharine McPhee and Debra Messing (February 6). Even with all those shows competing for eyeballs and threatening to create singing fatigue, Rushfield still feels “Idol” has a good chance of continuing its ratings dominance. “This year, after ‘The Voice’ and ‘X Factor,’ I think it’s really clear what slice of the pie ‘Idol’ has and that they’re all very different shows going after very different audiences,” he said. “‘Factor was making a very deliberate attempt to position itself as young and contemporary for an audience more open to an edgier, harsher show, and ‘Idol’ has doubled down on being the middle-American, older, feel-good, soft, nonthreatening show.” While ratings did continue their slow decline last year, “Idol” remained the overall champ, even as some critics complained about the sometimes too-sunny face put on by new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. As “Idol” prepares to bombard viewers with eight audition episodes featuring the predictable mix of potential stars and wackadoodle nobodies over the next month, Village Voice music editor Maura Johnston suggested perhaps it’s time the show’s runners take a look around and tweak the formula. “One thing the success of ‘The Voice’ speaks to is that people want the action to start earlier,” she said of the two-and-out round of blind auditions held by the competing show last season. “The audition episodes on ‘Idol’ get ratings … but at the same time, it’s grueling. ‘The Voice’ was so exciting because they put the competition and head-to-head stuff in so early.” Ratings history has shown that as programs like “Idol” continue on into their double-digit years, their audience invariably get older. The show has also failed to launch another superstar on the rank of winners Kelly Clarkson or season four’s Carrie Underwood, with last year’s winner, country teen Scotty McCreery, becoming the first platinum-selling champ since season seven’s David Cook. With “The Voice” and “X Factor” both putting a more musically and racially eclectic roster of winners and top finishers in the mix, is this the year the “four cute white guys in a row” factor might catch up with “Idol”? Johnston doesn’t think so. “One thing ‘Idol’ is speaking to over the past couple of years is the hunger among a certain demo for male pop singers who aren’t operating in a hip-hop idiom, but in a more guitar-centric way,” she said. There was a fear that with main meanie Cowell gone, viewers might turn their backs en masse at the sunshiny vibe of Tyler and Lopez, but Rushfield said that “Idol” could end up like such perennial ratings-getters as the World Series, sticking around year-after-year through ratings booms and busts. “It could lose two-thirds of its audience and still be a strong hit show by contemporary standards,” he said. “They found their most successful singer in half a decade, so you can’t look at it as on the course of decline. [With Tyler and Lopez] it also has new life, but the only question is … is there just singing-competition fatigue?” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Kelly Clarkson To Sing National Anthem At Super Bowl

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert scheduled to perform ‘America The Beautiful.’ By James Dinh Kelly Clarkson Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Kelly Clarkson will trail the footsteps of a string of big-voiced divas before her when she kicks off Super Bowl XLVI belting out the national anthem, according to The Associated Press. The announcement was expected to be made later this month, but a source close to the AP broke the news on Wednesday night (January 11). Country couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are also set to serve as entertainment when they perform “America The Beautiful” during the pre-game rounds. And, of course, Madonna will make her much-talked-about comeback when she rocks Lucas Oil Stadium as the championship game’s halftime show performer. The pop queen, who just announced the title of her 12th studio album, M.D.N.A. , will perform her new single “Gimme all Your Luvin” in a performance that will be “imagined” by Cirque du Soleil and her longtime creative director Jamie King. Clarkson is no stranger to national TV exposure. Just this past weekend, the pop songstress wrapped up another big gig as musical guest for “Saturday Night Live.” Marking her third appearance on the iconic sketch comedy show, the singer performed her new hits “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Mr. Know It All.” MTV News caught up with the original “American Idol” champion, who gushed about the “SNL” cast. “It’s a fun environment. You don’t feel like you’re working,” she admitted. “This is like a family place. Everybody here is nice to people who aren’t famous. You know what I’m saying? They’re nice to my makeup artist, my hair guy … I hate people who are just nice to famous people. It bothers me. I want to kick ’em.” Are you excited to see Kelly perform the patriotic tune at this year’s Super Bowl? Tell us in the comments below. Kim Kardashian Wasn’t ‘Replaced’ By Bulldog In Skechers Ad

Reality star won’t appear in new Super Bowl ad but Skechers CEO says claims that Kardashian was replaced are ‘misleading.’ By James Montgomery Kim Kardashian Photo: Marianna Massey/ WireImage Kim Kardashian won’t be featured in Skechers’ upcoming Super Bowl ad — that honor goes to a French bulldog — but that doesn’t mean she’s been replaced. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the shoe manufacturer had, uh, booted Kardashian as their spokesperson — she appeared in a steamy spot for Skechers’ Shape-Up shoe that aired during Super Bowl XLV — a move their president claimed was meant “to establish Skechers as more than a lifestyle company.” Of course, those reports also spawned a series of headlines suggesting Kardashian had been replaced in favor of the French bulldog (with some speculating her brief marriage to Kris Humphries was behind the decision). But according to Skechers’ CEO Robert Greenberg, that simply wasn’t the case. Instead (and less salaciously), the new commercial had everything to do with Kardashian’s contract with the company coming to an end. “Kim Kardashian has had a tremendously positive effect on the Skechers brand … she played a big part in Skechers moving up last year from 388 to 99 among companies with the highest brand trust,” Greenberg said in a statement . “While Kim’s contract with Skechers simply came to an end at the end of last year, we continue to have a great relationship with her … to say that she was ‘dropped’ or ‘replaced’ is misleading and untrue. Skechers has enjoyed and continues to enjoy the relationship with Kim, and in fact we continue to discuss ways that we may work together in the future.” Instead of Kardashian, this year’s Skechers Super Bowl spot features a French bulldog who dons the company’s new GOrun sneakers and races a pack of greyhounds. Strangely, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban reportedly also makes a cameo. What do you think of Skechers bumping Kim K. from their Super Bowl spot? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!

Madonna Inks Deal With Interscope

Singer reportedly signs for three albums at rate of $1 million each. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images As Madonna inches closer to the release of her in-the-works album, a report has surfaced that the Queen of Pop has signed a deal with Interscope Records, making her labelmates with music superstars like Lady Gaga and Eminem. The report first appeared in the New York Post early Wednesday (December 14), and a source confirmed the deal to Billboard . Madonna will reportedly work with the label on three records for $1 million each. Reps for the singer and the label had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment by press time. Madonna will also remain with Live Nation, with whom she signed a deal in 2007. Currently she has a 10-year “360 deal” worth upward of $100 million that covers touring and merchandise. Live Nation CEO Irving Azoff hinted back in February that a merger could happen for the star sometime this year. Live Nation always had intended to partner with a record label for the release of Madge’s next album. “Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded-music strategy,” Azoff said. “Once she gets the album recorded, we’ll sit down with her and her manager, Guy Oseary, and figure out what’s best for the record. It has to start with the music.” A source tells the New York Post, “It’s just about keeping relevance so that she can tour. She is still in the demo phase, but the idea is to get the first album out early next year.” Madonna is expected to drop her highly anticipated album this spring. In February, she’ll not only release her film “W.E.,” but she’s also slated to take the stage during the Super Bowl halftime show . She just shot the video for her song “Give Me All Your Love,” which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The shoot made headlines when Nicki tweeted about kissing Madonna on the set of the clip, directed by the Megaforce. Are you looking forward to new music from Madonna? Tell us below!
