It’s the day after the Super Bowl . Cue the commercial critiques. Every year, people are underwhelmed at the commercials. After watching many Super Bowls and analyzing people’s responses, we have come to realize that the disappointment is more to do with the unrealistc expectations the commercial have every year and less to do wtih the commercials actually sucking more than any other year. With that being said, there were some commercials that people universally liked. We’ve taken liberty to choose some. The first, above, was the Bud Light Dog Sitter commercial. It was brilliant. We saw dogs doing everything from waitressing, to bartending to DJing. Joan Rivers arguably took the place of Betty White this Super Bowl season. Although Joan’s commercial wasn’t as good as Betty’s Snickers commercial, it was better than Betty’s replacement in the Snicker’s Super Bowl ad this year , Roseanne Bar . Joan was like Betty in that her career is really on a steady incline proving that age isn’t anything but a number. Since GoDaddy is known for having young, hot spokeswomen, the reveal of Joan River’s was unexpected to be least. Never mind that her head was plastered on a rocking body. Joan has been going around today telling everyone how great her body is. Best Buy’s commercial was a riot. Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t just pretending not to know who Justin Bieber was, he really doesn’t know who Justin Bieber is . Bieber and Ozzy couldn’t be more different so that fact that they’re in this commercial making fun of that is hilarious. Pepsi Max was all over the Super Bowl. This commercial was particularly great because the thoughts that the guy and the girl are each having inside their heads are so typical of every first date. Any commercial that can manage to get several classic TV shows and modern sitcoms into one spot is phenomenal. It’s fitting that the NFL itself was behind this great commercial. The ad shows all the sitcoms referencing the NFL over the years with the tag line that the NFL has the best fans. Car ads were also all over the big game. Most of them were straight to the point and rather boring. It’s for that reason that the Donny Deutsch created Darth Vader commercial was the best of the car ads. The kid behind the mask is all over TV this week so catch him if you can.

For the record, Movieline HQ was buzzing about the Darth Vader Volkswagen commercial days before it aired on the Super Bowl. OK, so was the rest of the Internet, but, still! It was easily the best ad of the night — sorry, Eminem and Timothy Hutton! — and had the Super Bowl party I attended coursing with delight after it aired. One surprising question did arise, however: Was that an actual child underneath the Darth Vader helmet, or a little person? As one friend theorized, the hand gestures and acting seemed too good to simply belong to a precocious six-year-old. Except for the fact that apparently they did.

To friends of Christina Aguilera, her national anthem mishap at last night’s Super Bowl wasn’t a case of nerves. It was just the latest example of a human being in desperate need of help. Aguilera has had a rough yer. Her latest studio album tanked; reviews for Burlesque were less than kind; she divorced Jordan Bratman in the fall of 2010 and quickly started up with Matthew Rutler, someone her associates believe is a shady rebound . Since then, racy photos of the artist were leaked online and sources say she passed out in Jeremy Renner’s bedroom at the actor’s 40th birthday party. “Christina’s drinking has some of her friends worried,” an insider tells In Touch Weekly . “She seems to be getting out of control, and her friends want her to get PROFESSIONAL help. The past few weeks, her partying has escalated.” That was not the case at the Super Bowl, however. Witnesses say Aguilera hung around for the beginning of the contest, but quickly left for the airport, skipping all post-game events and looking “visibly upset” over her lyrical mistake.

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie was quick to come to Christina Aguilera’s defense after she botched the national anthem yesterday before the Super Bowl. On the Dan Patrick Show this morning, Fergie admitted the Black Eyed Peas halftime show effort was also sub-par, then defended the embattled Aguilera. Claiming she’s “human” and people make mistakes, especially given this once in a lifetime opportunity, she chalked the Star Spangled Bungle up to nerves. Some might chalk it up to Christina’s obvious drinking problem , but as always, Ferg was more diplomatic. Here’s a portion of her interview … Fergie Defends Christina Aguilera

One of the best parts of the Super Bowl are the commercials. Justin Bieber appeared in a commercial with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne that was definitely amusing. Ozzy Osbourne joked about Bieber asking, “What’s a Bieber?!” A balding older looking man sporting a mustache and beard replied by saying “I don’t know. It kind of

The Washington fest, held in May, will also feature Modest Mouse, Decemberists, Robyn. The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage The lineup for the 2011 Sasquatch! Music Festival has been announced, and, in keeping with both its locale (the hilly expanses of Washington) and its mascot (a benevolently hirsute man-ape), the fest will feature some of the Pacific-Northwestiest, beard-iest bands in the land. Foo Fighters, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and Wilco top the bill for the tenth annual ‘Quatch, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 27-30, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington. Also on the bill: Bright Eyes, the Flaming Lips (performing their ’99 stunner The Soft Bulletin ), the Decemberists, Iron & Wine, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Robyn. All in all, organizers announced more than 80 bands for the 2011 Sasquatch fest, a list that includes the recently reactivated Death From Above 1979, Cold War Kids, the recently de-activated Wolf Parade, Chromeo, Sleigh Bells, the Thermals, Flogging Molly, Best Coast, Surfer Blood, Fitz & the Tantrums, Smith Westerns, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Major Lazer. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks. In previous years, Sasquatch’s stages have been graced by the likes of My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, Bj

Paramount offered up the most movie spots of the night, including trailers for ‘Captain America,’ ‘Super 8’ and ‘Transformers.’ By Eric Ditzian A scene from the “Captain America: The First Avenger” Super Bowl trailer Photo: Paramount So Christina Aguilera blew it with her flubbed Super Bowl national anthem and Ben Roethlisberger blew it with his faltered fourth-quarter comeback drive. But what we’re really talking about the next morning has nothing to do with Fox’s in-game Super Bowl coverage. Instead, we’re fixated on the barrage of movie trailers and Hollywood-themed ads we checked out during commercial time — extended looks at “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Super 8,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and others. While the Green Bay Packers enjoy their Super Bowl win, let’s go ahead and anoint the night’s big Hollywood winners J.J. Abrams Perhaps the night’s biggest winner was Abrams, the director of “Super 8” and — according to the none-too-subtle subtext of the new trailer — the inheritor of Steven Spielberg’s genre-bending, family-focused Hollywood blockbuster crown. Together, Spielberg and Abrams seem to be positioning the film as the successor to “E.T.” Whether that’s what “Super 8” turns about to be remains an open question. For now, what we can say is that Abrams has come a long way since “Star Trek” and “Lost” recently. He’s officially a top dog in Hollywood. “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” We need not rehash the hand-wringing over the letdown that was 2009’s “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” but Michael Bay’s latest ad for his third alien-robot flick, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” goes a long way toward reassuring fans that the new installment will be the best of the bunch. How bold to deliver a Super Bowl movie trailer containing not a single line of dialogue? Instead we got balletic and beautiful fight scenes, an ominous air horn-driven soundtrack and the tagline “Earth goes dark.” We can’t wait! “Captain America: The First Avenger” Fans really haven’t known what to think of this Marvel adaptation. Some peeks at Chris Evans in costume as the Captain have left observers underwhelmed, and many remain skeptical about the prospect of Joe Johnston (“The Wolfman,” “Jurassic Park III”) in the director’s chair. Yet this trailer — the first-ever look at footage from “Captain America: The First Avenger” — should help quell any alarm: There’s a cool look at Evans’ transformation from frail wannabe to badass super-soldier, some satisfying fights, and a well-executed period-drama look to the whole thing. Volkswagen We’re not sure if it made us want to go out and buy a Passat, but this ad was one of the funniest of the night. A young boy, dressed up like Darth Vader, attempts to use the Force on everything from a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a washing machine, only to train his faux-powers on dad’s parked car. And guess what? The car starts and the boy is shocked. Turns out, Dad started the car remotely, via the Passat’s high-tech set of keys. Will parents raised on “Star Wars” rush over to the local Volkswagen dealership seeking the sense of familial togetherness apparent in the commercial? Who knows? But at least we’re talking about these cars, which is not the case with so many of the products advertised during the big game. Paramount Pictures Some studios, like Warner Bros., largely sat out the Super Bowl. No studio, however, went as all in as Paramount, which delivered looks at “Captain America,” “Super 8,” “Thor,” “Transformers” and “Rango.” The studio’s ads were among the most talked-about of the night and trended highly on Twitter and Google. Sometimes, it pays to go big. Related Videos Kick Off With Super Bowl XLV Movie Commercials
