There was an inkling around town that Fantastic Fest’s secret screening Wednesday would turn out to be Paranormal Activity 3 , what with the viral VHS tapes surfacing in Austin this week and the seemingly perfect timing for the horror sequel, which hits theaters nationwide on Oct. 21. By the time the surprise world premiere was confirmed to a packed audience at midnight on Wednesday, it was a surprise many folks saw coming. So how did Paranormal Activity 3 measure up to its predecessors — and what does it mean that it doesn’t match up at all with its recent trailer ?

If anyone in showbiz is both qualified and deserving, it’s Eddie Murphy. This Tuesday, a confab is scheduled for Oscar producer Brett Ratner to tell the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences whom he wants to host the Oscars. I’ve learned that Ratner will offer one name to Academy President Tom Sherak: Eddie Murphy. This is by no means a done deal yet, but this is a first step – though a lot more steps have to happen before this becomes a reality. I’m told that a lot of big names have approached the other 84th Academy Awards producer Don Mischer saying they are interested in hosting, and Don is fielding those calls. But insiders tell me that Ratner since getting the Academy Awards producing gig has only been talking to one person: Eddie. It’s been along the lines of, “If the Academy asked you to host, would you accept?” I learned that Eddie is “showing interest”. I do know that Murphy’s Hollywood agency WME thinks it’d be a real coup for Murphy’s dormant career which is about to get a kick-start. That’s because the veteran comedian is starring in the Brett Ratner-directed and Imagine/Universal-produced Tower Heist action laugher with Ben Stiller that opens on November 4th and is receiving great buzz. So Murphy and Ratner already have a close relationship, and this would be a way for Brett to put his personal stamp on 2012′s broadcast. Plus Murphy is starring in the DreamWorks dramedy film A Thousand Words scheduled for release on January 12th. We hope that Eddie gets this prestigious job. He would definitely bring some much needed funny to an otherwise boring show. Hate it or love it?!?! Source

Chris Brown thought his $22,000 diamond encrusted Rolex was gone forever, when he accidentally tossed it into the crowd at the MTV VMAs but lucky for him, he was wrong. Brown’s watch, a gold Rolex with a white oyster face and diamond-encrusted bezel came loose at the beginning of his performance, he took it off and tried to toss it to a safe place. But Brown missed his target and the watch ended up in the crowd. After the performance, Brown’s bodyguard went into the audience and asked if anyone had found the watch, not expecting anyone to come forward. To his surprise, the watch was in the possession of an honest person, who returned it Brown. A rep for Brown confirms, “Although Chris did not get to meet the fan, he is very appreciative of the fan’s actions.” This is one stupid muthaf@#$a very forthright individual. Some of y’all @$$es would have been burnin’ rubber down to the pawn shop! The devil is hard at work… A preacher who led one of the largest congregations in Central Florida was found dead in a Times Square hotel on Friday, police sources said. The body of Zachery Tims, 42, the senior pastor of New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, was discovered in his 37th-floor room of the posh W Hotel on Broadway near W. 46th St. about 6 p.m., the sources said. “He’s going to be missed,” the mayor of Apopka, John Land, told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. It was not clear whether Tims was alone at the time of his death. The city’s medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. This Tims character wasn’t the most pious of the Lord’s humble servants… In 2009, Tims and his wife of 15 years divorced after the pastor admitted to having an affair with another woman. Riva Tims, who is also a pastor, left the church to pursue her own ministry, Majestic Life Institute. There is no telling what other type of shady dealings this guy might have been into.
